Re: Solomon Marcus Schiller-Szinessy[edit]

Re your messages: There seems to be some discrepancies over his middle name. While the birth certificate does show Marcus, various other online sources has his middle name as Mayer. Since there is this discrepancy, I am a bit leery about moving the article to one name or the other. I recommend that you ask the advice of other editors to see if this discrepancy can be resolved. You might want to ask at Wikipedia:WikiProject Jewish history or Wikipedia:WikiProject Judaism for assistance. I am sure that if you ask there, somebody will be willing to help.

On a different note, I had to remove the text you copied from AIM25 here into the article as it is unclear what the copyright status is of that text and it may not be authorized for inclusion on Wikipedia. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 08:03, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re your message: I want to clarify that I do not think you are wrong. It is just that there appears to be some discrepancies and it is better to work out the discrepancies with editors more knowledgeable about the subject. My own knowledge about this subject is next to non-existent, so I do not feel that I am qualified enough to make a conclusion one way or another. That is why I pointed you in the direction of the WikiProjects as there are more knowledgable editors there.
One issue that you may have proving that his middle name is Marcus instead of Mayer is that unless an outside reliable source has also concluded that his middle name is Marcus then your proof could be viewed as original research which is not allowed on Wikipedia. I do not think that you have this issue since multiple sources are listing his name both ways. One suggestion I do have is that if you do resolve the issue, you may want to change the lead of the article such that it notes the erroneous name. For example:
Solomon Marcus Schiller-Szinessy, sometimes called Solomon Mayer Schiller-Szinessy, was a Hungarian...
That way other readers will be aware that sometimes his name is improperly listed. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 08:48, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The page has been moved. It can always be moved back if others think it's wrong --Steven J. Anderson (talk) 19:26, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank You[edit]

very much, this is definitely the correct way! I can send you a picture of his tombstone in Ipswich Suffolk, at the Old Jewish Cemetary on Ipswich dockland (little known enclosed burial ground for jews) where his name says Marcus as well. If there should be ever any doubt at all, I have other family certificates (marriage etc.) to prove it.

I am very gratefull to you both, taking time and changing the name the way it should be. Now that I found it by chance, I will translate it sometime soon and put it on german wikipedia as well.

Have a good life

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
