Dispute

[edit]

Hey AllynJ, firstly thanks for your kind words and support at my RfB. Secondly, as you may have guessed, I'm a quite busy at the moment but I'll do my best to get back to you with regard to your question. All the best, The Rambling Man (talk) 18:36, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Gabon

[edit]

Ah I always do that as I feel it is less confusing. Its just to assert that it is a provincial area -in my head things become more organized like this. The same goes with changing Category:Cities in Gabon to Category:Cities, towns and villages in Gabon - I know where I am then and think its easier for others to understand. When I add villages later then they won't be labelled as "cities" either ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 13:48, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

For most countries provincial articles are called .... Region or ...Province etc. I feel it is important to have some consistency and as I say believe it is easier to understand as an area. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 13:53, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes well often it is named .... (department)for those places where town seats share the same name as a surrounding province. I did Republic of the Congo the other day and all of the provinces share the same name as the main town -Gabon is different here though I agree but I think its fine. However, having worked on over 30 countries in Africa, Latin America and Asia I can say that the it would be moved to .... Department and place names e.g El Alto (Guatemala) have been moved to El Alto, Guatemala. I added the majority of the french communes (which need developing) and we avoided brackets altogether ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 14:06, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well for me there is a standard naming but some people may disagree with me as is to be expected in a project this size. I have everything organized (or will have) and can then go about adding infboxes and locator maps for each of the places in Africa. See articles like Mogolo, Koré Maïroua, Pokigron etc -I;ve created locator template maps for over 100 countries. This is the best way we can try to counteract systematic bias I think. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 14:14, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Now to tag them all before moving onto the towns ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 14:27, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hey AllynJ, just wanted to pop by and say thanks for your support in my recent RfB which passed successfully with (133/4/3). Thanks again. The Rambling Man (talk) 21:42, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Anti-Americanism

[edit]

I unprotected it, because I had an inquiry on my talk page why I had protected it in the first place and directed me to the article's talk page. It appeared that there were a few editors who were also concerned, and in fact, didn't believe there was an edit war. So, I unprotected it. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 10:58, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This article is not an indiscriminate collection of information. It is like any other list, and your reason for deletion is not why the article really needs to be deleted, because i see no reason the article should be deleted. Mythdon (talk) 17:23, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ryan Grant GA Review

[edit]

Hello, I will be performing the GA review for this article. The quick-fail criteria do not apply, so the review will proceed. I like to post feedback as I go rather than simply giving a list at the end of the review (many editors like having a chance to fix things while they wait and speed up the process). I have read over the article quickly and mentioned a few things that I feel should be addressed. I will carry on with a more detailed review, but I wanted to let you know that there are a few things you are welcome to work on if you have time. Best wishes, GaryColemanFan (talk) 00:18, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I actually found time to complete the initial review, so I've gone through the whole article and made a list of my concerns, which you can find on the article's talk page. Please get in touch if you have any questions or disagree with any part of the review. Best wishes, GaryColemanFan (talk) 02:52, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Jeff Buckley vandalism

[edit]

Thanks for reverting the vandalism on the article. However, because of the the large amount of vandal edits you didn't revert them all. The entire reference section was missing. I've reverted to the last good version now. Make sure you look at the previous revisions before reversion. Thanks. Sillyfolkboy (talk) 11:40, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh yeah, sorry, let me explain - there's been a user flicking between IP addresses who's continually inserting influences and cause of death in the infobox and making random references to Bob Dylan on a number of articles. I've no problem with the influences if they're sourced or in the article but for example in the Buckley article it lists Andrew Wood, Cheap Trick and Freddie Mercury. These are not covered in the article and, as someone who's read quite extensively, i've never heard Buckley mention these groups let alone as an influence. I'm pretty sure the contributor has zero intention of citing a source for the additions. Perhaps because the source is in his head! Thanks for the clean up anyway, reading my last message it sounded a bit harsh which i didn't mean it to be. Cheers. Sillyfolkboy (talk) 13:58, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wales Minor Counties

[edit]

I always hesitate before amending anyone's contribution to a talk page, but the redlink in your latest contribution on WT:CRIC could be turned blue by reffing to Wales Minor Counties Cricket Club, which has a short article. This might stop someone from creating a second article. Thanks. Johnlp (talk) 17:37, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox

[edit]

Thanks for helping with the infoboxes. It is an opportunity to step up the pace with removing the deprecated ones too. Just a note to say that it was agreed (so as not to give too much weight to Twenty20) that any T20 or IT20 figures fill up the latter space of the table (even if it separates it from the other international matches). I've clarified the guidelines on the template page. Some suggested (non-standard orders) are Test, FC, LA, IT20; ODI, FC, LA, IT20 (or just T20); FC, LA, T20, U-19...etc. Also the international T20s should link to [[Twenty20 International|IT20]]. –MDCollins (talk) 17:00, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've just realised we can save a lot of time by not actually putting in the statistics (as the bot will do it in a day or so), merely the textual information - why didn't I think of that before?!–MDCollins (talk) 17:20, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dialysis Terms

[edit]

Hello, Thank you for replying. I have obviously been misinformed, by one of my consultants, I was told there was some sort of 'forum' I could use on Wikipedia to help others, I thought this would be a good way of helping dialysis patients with some basic terms. I am aware of the guide you mentioned, but felt it was somewhat longer than some people are looking for i.e. short and to the point. I will go back to the drawing board and see what else I can do to make things easier for patients. regards Lizzy —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lizzyc (talkcontribs) 16:11, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

2008 County Championship

Thank you

[edit]

Thank you for noticing my error, I have rectified it on the page - that's what comes from having two players with similar names on the same team. Bobo. 15:25, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

On User talk:Bobo192, AllynJ said:
By the way, I don't think CA adds players to their database until they're involved in a match that they upload - so these two players won't get their pages on there until the match finishes.

This would seem to be correct, at least they don't update the stats until the end of the game.

One of these days I'm going to start an article on a County Championship debutant on the first day of his debut first-class fixture and I swear it's going to go to either speedy deletion or PROD.. it happened to me once with Ruhann Burden, but is yet to happen with a County cricketer.

Well that's my leftfield prediction for the day. All the best. Bobo. 07:58, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. This little form letter is just a courtesy notice to let you know that a proposal to merge the projects Wikipedia:WikiProject Free images, Wikipedia:WikiProject Fair use, Wikipedia:WikiProject Moving free images to Wikimedia Commons and Wikipedia:WikiProject Illustration into the newly formed Wikipedia:WikiProject Images and Media has met with general support at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals/Files. Since you're on the rosters of membership in at least one of those projects, I thought you might be interested. Conversation about redirecting those projects is located here. Please participate in that discussion if you have any interest, and if you still have interest in achieving the goals of the original project, we'd love to have you join in. Hi. I am the editor who is mostly responsible for the Psych folk article up end of the 1970s, but I pretty much left the Freak folk bit at the end as it was, even if very unhappy with it, so I was glad to see someone come along and cut down the list. As part of an attempt to sort out the Folk music article and folk articles in general, I have been looking at Freak folk, Anti-folk, Counterfolk, Un-folk, Indie folk, and Nu-folk (could be more here, I keep finding them), with increasing despair. These articles are mainly as clear as mud, lack citations and constantly cite the same bands. I wonder if you are the sort of person who might actually understand which bands actually belong to which and whether some should be merged as they are actually synonyms?--Sabrebd (talk) 07:14, 30 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That's a massive improvement. I appreciate anything you can do on these, I will try to pick up the ones you are less familiar with. I wonder from some of the reading whether Indie folk is a generic terms for all of these current trends, but need some more solid evidence to back that up. Thanks for your efforts.--Sabrebd (talk) 10:09, 30 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In the words (stolen) by Led Zeppelin, ramble on. Its all very interesting to me and really makes a nice change from the more usually arguments about inverted commas that I usually have. Good news, I have managed to find a reliable source that sets of the development of the terms "anti-folk", "new weird America", "Freak folk" and "Indie folk". It is: Amanda Petrusich, It Still Moves: Lost Songs, Lost Highways, and the Search for the Next American Music (Macmillan, 2008), pp. 239-240. I found this on google books at: http://books.google.com/books?id=5w9nVLtRSgwC&pg=PA239&dq=%22punk+folk%22&lr=&as_brr=3&ei=jQpLSp6wOoS8yQSYxaD0DQ (But the link might not work for you). This suggests, as we suspected, Indie Folk is a catch all, which suggested to me that we should make that a summary article of the others and think about possible mergers if there are two articles about the same thing under different names.--Sabrebd (talk) 07:21, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

As far as I can tell from the, sometimes impenetrable, articles and some other reading, Counterfolk, Un-folk and Anti-folk are related, and in a different grouping are Neo-folk, Folktronica and Techno-folk. Nu-folk has already been replaced with a redirect to Freak folk, but I think Indie folk will be more appropriate. I think you are right about New Weird America, its not a genre at all, but a term that covers several developments, Freak folk and modern Psych folk seem to be in that, anti-folk might be as well. Sorry, I am rambling now, trying to sort this all out in my bruised mind.--Sabrebd (talk) 14:55, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Noticed you try to replace a link to a dab page in Birmingham City F.C. with a wiktionary link. You are now a Reviewer

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 04:44, 20 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Can you request a speedy deletion for my talk page, i don't want a talk page and i don't plan on using wiki again. Can you please get rid of the talk page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.147.146.217 (talk) 17:25, 3 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I'm not an admin, and WP:CSD#U1 says User talk pages can't be speedily deleted... WP:DELTALK expands on why that is. I don't think WP:Right to vanish applies to IPs either. Unfortunately, I think your best bet is just to blank your talk page and leave it be -- would that suffice? AllynJ (talk | contribs) 18:06, 3 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Not really, i don't understand why you would create it, i made a mistake, you could have just undid what i did and then put a note beside it. Do you know the code to put to request a talk page be deleted? It might be worth a try. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.147.148.236 (talk) 12:01, 4 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I used it to make you aware of WP policy, not for any kind of criticism. No one will think less of you for it, and the fact you didn't revert afterwards is a good sign. People will take it in good faith. As it is, your IP has changed and under your new IP you don't have a talk page: User talk:78.147.148.236, will that be enough? You tried to delete your old one but an admin declined for the policy reasons outlined above. I have no idea if they'd be willing to make an exception, and am not sure where you would go about trying to secure one. Sorry, but there's nothing I can do... AllynJ (talk | contribs) 12:23, 4 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

As my IP does appear to be changed then i guess it'll be okay. Sorry if my response came across as agressive, it wasn't meant to, i was just a little annoyed as i didn't really want a talk page or my IP to be shown up with the talk page.

PS How old are you? If you don't want to give your exact age, what age bracket are you in? 10-20, 20-30, 30-40, 50-60, 60-70 etc etc

I just noticed all the countries you had visitited and planned to visit and got curious. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.147.97.35 (talk) 19:39, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

For you work about a month ago on 2011 Giro d'Italia. You did a lot of the tedious technical stuff that makes my brain hurt. I so much prefer to just write prose. Thanks again! Green-eyed girl (Talk · Contribs) 00:40, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Happy to help! I've never been much or a prose writer myself, but spotted that that article wasn't *too* far from GA (although seeing your recent expansions of it, I think it was further from it than I thought), and figured I could help make a push towards it reaching that level. Plus it makes my brain hurt to see that tedious stuff not-done. :) Glad to see you were able to find the time to add to it, as your expansion is great. Cheers! Buttons to Push Buttons (talk | contribs) 04:29, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well don't nominate it yet. One of the quick-fail criteria is whether the article concerns an unfinished event with a clear finishing date, and that's true of this Giro. We won't know who history remembers as the winner until after the court hearings in November. So if you nominated it today...well, hell, it'd probably be November before it was reviewed anyway, but still, don't. Green-eyed girl (Talk · Contribs) 05:37, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I always planned to write actual prose under the "Race overview" heading. I think some other editors thought that was just meant as an overheading for the two subheads about Weylandt and Tondó. This was the first time I've felt the need to write an "Aftermath" section - a lot happened as a direct result of this race and, as I've said, a lot is still yet to happen. Green-eyed girl (Talk · Contribs) 05:39, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Fair point; had forgotten about his CAS case... It really does look very close to finished now, mind, results of the hearing aside. And yes, I assumed that was the intention wrt the headings in the race overview section, simply based on previous Giro articles. Had been rather confused by the aftermath section, mind -- it seemed like it related simply to the two deaths -- but now you've filled it out, it makes perfect sense.
