Sorry to have interfered; I wasn't trying to. As I remembered it, I was fixing spelling using a Live spellcheck tool that is semiautomatic, with a fully automatic reversion option which I usually only invoke for obvious vandalism. Looking at the history, I'm confused; your changes sure don't look like vandalism to me now, so I shouldn't have reverted them, but it seems to have happened. Maybe I just hit the wrong button. Let me know if I can ever be of help.

Please read WP:TALK and/or WP:ARCHIVE about how to handle your user talk page when it gets long or old. Deleting conversations from it is frowned upon. Makes it hard for other editors to see how well you play with others ;-) Chris the speller 22:51, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

However, please do not inform the vandals that they have been reported to admins. This may anger them in some strange way, or they could be encouraged by this comment, and continue to vandalize.

So, next time you report a vandal to WP:AIAV, please just do that alone, and don't tell the vandal they have been reported. Hopefully that made some sense. If it didn't... If you have any questions, please contact me at my talk page. Ian Manka 05:25, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Flyguy

YOU are being the erroneous vandal - the Mediawatch segment on The Great Outdoors has been discredited as a lefty-envious piece of trash, similar to some of its tunnel-visioned 2006 Australian story "reports" on criminals. Don't be an airhead supporting lies. 15:35, January 24, 2007 Yobikol (Talk)

Sorry about the deletion of the Tags

Hey, I just got a message from you saying please stop deleting tags. It said on one of the tags though: If you intend on fixing the problem, please delete this tag. Anyways, what were you tagging it for? Mrx9898 03:28, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

I received your message " Please stop. If you continue to vandalise Wikipedia, as you did to Vic Eliason, you will be blocked. -- Flyguy649 04:04, 26 January 2007 (UTC)" and want to know how I can put u[ my own opinions about Vic Eliason on Wikipedia (like opposing viewpoints) without it being taken down or considered "vandalism". I have seen other articles about other religious personalities where is was done. (Jack Chick for example.) Please advise. I simply want to put up my own "article" or text reflecting my viewpoints on Vic Eliason. (I find him to be a vry offensive broadcaster.) I would like to know how to do this without violating Wikipedia policy. Thank you.

I haven't vandalized any other pages, why are you slandering me ?

here's the source that links Myer to Noland. It stands to no reason why anyone would make this up.

I rechecked your contributions log, and you're right about the vandalism. You did not appear to have vandalised before, and I apologise for saying otherwise. My only explanation was that I was also reverting someone else's vandalism, checked their contributions and mistakenly attributed them to you. I almost always add an anti-vandalism tag to the talk page of users who are vandalising, and I did not with you. Mea culpa, and again I apologize. BTW, in the future, it would be helpful to give me a link to the page you're talking about. And please sign your posts. (I am also posting this to your discussion page). It would be good if you cite the ref when you make changes, too.-- Flyguy649 03:08, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. There's no support for your position, that I can see, in the MoS section that you cited. If you can't cite anything else, my edits should remain. Thanks. --Tkynerd 03:28, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry I missed that content at the MoS (I'm afraid I perused it in a bit of a hurry). At any rate, that bit of the MoS is BS and I've no intention of following it. If someone else changes that info at Snow in Florida back, I won't object, but I'm not changing it myself. Thanks, anyway, for pointing it out. --Tkynerd 14:52, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Protection

Hi Flyguy649, you recently added {{sprotect}} to my userpage. I wanted to let you know that regular users, such as yourself, can not semi-protect pages, only administrators can. The tag merely signifies the page is semi-protected, adding it does not semi-protect the page. As it happens, I just did semi-protect the page, so it turned out well. ;-) However, I don't want the tag on the page, this is going to be a short (10hrs) protection anyway. You can request pages be protected or semi-protected at WP:RFPP. Happy editing! Prodego talk 04:05, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your contribution to Arnab Chakrabarty

FlyGuy,

Thanks. I am actually the owner of the Arnab Chakrabarty page. It has recently been vandalized by a user who logs in from the IP address 216.15.127.82 and I had deleted all content from the page in despair, or rather in a desperate bid to protect Mr. Chakrabarty's reputation, which is apparently being targeted by this user. I wonder how I can obtain assistance in either locking this article from editing OR deleting it permanently, as I do not wish to take responsibility for other users posting libelous material on a musician I so admire. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Musicfreek21 (talkcontribs) 20:15, 15 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

64.231.36.253

Are you sure the Vandalism4 template is right for 64.231.36.253? I was just about to add V3 myself. While their edits were complete, blatant, crude vandalism, shouldn't we give a lesser warning first? --Scorpios 04:04, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you look at his edits here, every single one is brutal, and blatant. There are eight edits over about 30 min, so it wasn't like he was just reverting. That's why I gave the vandalism4im. I do normally start with level 1 or 2 (depending if there's good faith or not), but I felt the immediate warning was important here. I'm happy to discuss further. Regards, Flyguy649 04:10, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm new to the whole warning vandals thing (Although, not rvv) and I'll trust your experience on this matter. --Scorpios 04:53, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You'll probably find that different editors have different opinions on this. The most important thing is that you do warn. Some people don't bother. Also I've found it helpful to look at the vandal's contribution history before I leave a warning to see what else has been done by him/her. Good luck, Flyguy649 04:56, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki Battle

(I cross-posted this thread from here. Flyguy649 19:04, 23 February 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Hi there. On the AfD discussion for Wiki Battle, you suggested speedy delete for it. (Wiki Battle is a WP:NFT#That infamous game clone). I was the nominator, and I would have speedied it, but I don't see a rationale allowing it at WP:SPEEDY under G1-12 or A1-7. To be honest, I'd prefer speedy for it because there's not a chance of it (or any such page) surviving AfD. What are your thoughts? Regards, Flyguy649 03:41, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Why would you want to block me? All I did was create an article. I searched for similar things and couldn't find it. I am so sorry for being such a naive person! For gods' sakes, all I did was try to contribute to this free encyclopedia. I have contributed to other articles too, to better wikipedia: manga cafes, the French article on your mom jokes, my high school's page. I think that it is entirely pompous and ridiculous that you suggest or even fathom a block. I have done nothing. I created a page on an idea that I couldn't find, and then try to defend it. I wrote two good defenses for the article, whether or not you took the time out of your busy schedule squandering the youth's creativity to read it. People online think that seniority gives them the right to be as vile as they wish. If anyone should be blocked, it should be you! I'm not upset about getting a speedy deletion. It's not a huge deal to me. I just think that maybe you should be a little more open rather than trying to verbally kill anyone who hasn't been on the site for years. Misterramune 20:29, 24 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, New At This

Hi Flyguy, Im fairly new with the "rest" of the wiki world (other than using it a source of quick information online), and upon stumbling on a word ("Dopamaniac") not listed I thought I would create a page for it. So I'm not sure why it got proded, and maybe you can explain in simpler terms... Rikki —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Fox94109 (talkcontribs) 22:42, 24 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Hi there Fox94109. I put the tag on Dopamaniac for two reasons. First off, it seems to be a neologism; that is, it is an invented word (and obviously many words start out that way) that doesn't yet have enough common usage to be a regular word. In this case, I did a google search (dopamaniac) and it returned only two hits. While Google is by no means the be-all and end all, that it only had two hits suggests that it is a neologism. Secondly, Wikipedia is not a dictionary. To me, Dopamaniac is not a candidate for speedy deletion. Thus I prod-tagged it. That said, this is my opinion, and regardless of how long I've been on Wikipedia, it is only only one editor's opinion. However, my experience is that others will likely also have concerns with it. Like the instructions in the tag state, if you feel you can change the article to alleviate my concern, feel free to do so. I encourage you to keep adding articles to Wikipedia. If you haven't done so, please look at the welcome page. Good luck, Flyguy649 (talk-works) 00:22, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Users blanking articles they've created

Hi Flyguy, thanks for warning User:Chem1234 about blanking Charlie Appleby. Usually when we see someone blanking an article that they've created (and no one else has edited), we can interpret that as an intention to delete, and just mark the article with {{db-author}}. Quarl (talk) 2007-02-25 05:57Z

Thanks. I looked at the template, and I missed the subtlety of the blanking the page part. Flyguy649 (talk-works) 06:07, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, we used to do this revert+warn+afd cycle, until we came to our senses and realized blanking the page is a newbie's way of saying he wants it deleted. :) Quarl (talk) 2007-02-25 08:46Z
I started just reverting, and instructing the author to db-author the page; this is much simpler. Flyguy649 (talk-works) 09:26, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Interference with WikiProject Biography assessment

Re: your initiation of speedy deletion on the comment from Talk:Joseph Estrada -- My comment was created as part of the WikiBiography Project standard assessment techniques, intended as a comment note for biography editors seeking information on how best to improve an article. See the WikiProject Biography page on the Talk:Joseph Estrada page. Such comments get lost in the general hubbub of talk pages otherwise. Yksin 20:30, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK, interference is a strong word, as my edit was in good faith. But thanks for bringing that to my attention. Now I know. Regards, Flyguy649talkcontribs 20:37, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Flyguy, Thanks for your notes. I did read the Wikipedia's neutral policy as you recommmended, and it says: "The neutral point of view is a means of dealing with conflicting views. The policy requires that, where there are or have been conflicting views, these should be presented fairly." So, at the least, I think it's fair for Wikipedia to mention fact that there are strong opinions about the ethics of animal training and animals in circuses. We could even go really nuts and say that animal training can involve -- gasp -- pain. That's true -- and isn't the Wikipedia about truth? Kathy—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Anon15 (talkcontribs) 20:15, March 12, 2007 (UTC)

Hi Kathy, actually Wikipedia is about verifiability. I reverted two of your contributions. In the first case, [3] you don't provide any reference to the information. It may be true -- it probably is. But Wikipedia requires that you provide references. In the second case, [4] you put an eternal link right after the preamble, where it does not belong. It might be permissible in the External links section, (see WP:EL for guidelines), but the Circus article already has external links that I believe support your POV. If you feel that this site should be there, by all means add it. In addition, the article has a section that deals with cruelty to animals. Your note, "See www.circuses.com for more information about animals and circuses," is also not neutral point of view since you use the site to convey your POV. That said, the site is interesting and informative. One other suggestion. When you edit articles, it is helpful to other editors to leave a brief note in the Edit Summary explaining what you have done. Regards, Flyguy649talkcontribs 20:47, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Username query

Flyguy649, I am really new to this so maybe this isn't how I am supposed to respond to your comment. Before I make any name changes, I am wondering if you could be a little more specific in your complaint against my name. I recently read through Wikipedia's usage on "Weasely words" and your comment seems to apply. "Some people might find it offensive." Who are the some people? Is it you? Why would they find it offensive? Traditional Christian doctrine says that all Christians are sons or daughters of God, and this is the sense in which I meant it. Whom does this offend, and why? I am not necessarily opposed to a name change, but your statement "Some people might find it offensive" was extremely vague and weasely. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Filiusdei (talkcontribs) 00:28, March 15, 2007 (UTC)

Hi there. My concern isn't really my own. I have been following discussions at Wikipedia:Requests for comment/User names (RFCU)and several religion-based names have come up recently. The relevant part of the User name guidelines is here under inflamatory usernames: "Usernames of religious figures such as "God", "Jehovah", "Buddha", or "Allah", which may offend other people's beliefs. Usernames partly comprised of these terms are not always necessarily prohibited but may be subject to review." Many names have come up recently that I think are marginal that go through the RFCU process and, by concensus, get blocked. Like I said, I think yours is marginal; I have no problem with it. It was more that I wanted you to be aware that you might have people complain about your username. Hence the "Some people might find it offensive" comment. Unfortunately, that seems to be how User name appropriateness has been decided at RFCU. If you'd like, you can test your name at RFCU. Like I said, I'm ok with your name. It's up to you. Regards, Flyguy649talkcontribs 02:48, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If you think this is a real concern, you should run it through RFCU. I think I personally would likely argue for "allow." But then, I also pay attention to the arguments brought forward in the process and sometimes change my position. Kukini hablame aqui 03:16, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Flyguy, I'll have to agree with Kukini on this one, I don't think its offensive (in fact, I don't even know what the username means so you should probably disregard my comments!), if you have any concerns though, you could take it to WP:RFCN, speak to the user (as I've seen you have done) and see what they have to say Ryanpostlethwaite contribs/talk 09:25, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Frustrated behaviour (incl. false puppet alleagations) by Stubacca

I would like to devote one ore two lines to Stubacca. An individual who has an axe to grind because he could not push his comments and views on some Wiki articles. - + - + As a result he now accuses me of being a puppet of someone else. How sad. Rather than starting a proper dialogue supported by facts along proper Wiki etiquette lines, why my views differ from his; he prefers to accuse others of policy violations and ultimately puppeteering - what a frustrated civil servant this guy must be (Pot v. Kettle Policy, I know) - + Please note: that Stubacca already received a warning for his vandalism on the Cruyff page and those of other footballing greats. He justified his actions based on inconclusive evidence. His personal discussion page is littered with 'conflict' with others, although I leave it up to others to decide whether this is a trend in his online behaviour.

Now obviously you must sense that I feel falsely accused. As a new wiki user I do not know what I can do in my defence or as accepted counter action, because I do feel that users like Stubacca should not be allowed to get away with this. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Brasileiro1969 (talkcontribs) 15:39, 15 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]

I also left a related comment at Talk:Ketchup chips. I disagree that it was uncalled for; ketchup chips are already mentioned in Potato chips. Hyperemesis gravidarum

I was wondering why you felt it was appropriate to delete the link to the HG information I provided for people who suffer from hyperemesis gravidarum. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Whining puker (talkcontribs) 19:18, March 17, 2007 (UTC)

Because it's a link to a book, therefore it's advertising a product or service, and is a link to be avoided. The policy is to remove such links. I have just reverted your addition again. Regards, Flyguy649talkcontribs 19:30, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

So are you telling me that the free pamphlet on how to help a sufferer with HG can't be shared on Wiki because an ad appears on the website? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Whining puker (talkcontribs) 19:43, March 17, 2007

It's not just a link to a free pamphlet. It's a link to a website for the book Beyond Morning Sickness; the link to the pamphlet is available on that site. Since the HG article is about HG in general, and not the book, I feel that linking to the book's webpage is not appropriate; it advertises the book. That said, that is my opinion. I think we should see what other editors think. Do you agree? Flyguy649talkcontribs 20:27, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not necessary. I read through the links you included, and based on Wiki's guidelines, you're absolutely right. I'm new to Wiki and was just trying to help people (who suffer from HG) find relevant information. But, even though it's a great resource for HG sufferers, and even though there is free information there, it IS a book ad overall! Thanks for your help. Hi there. The link you have added to many pages (e.g. [5]) is a link to a site that sells these insects, thus it is promoting a commercial venture and not allowed (see here). The article may be interesting, but if anyone wants to learn how grow raise insects, they can do a websearch (see WP:NOT#INDISCRIMINATE). Regards, Flyguy649talkcontribs 22:15, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It really isn't...infact I rarely sell insects or have any in stock. I have developed the website into more of an information database, than a store, as you can probably see for yourself.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 82.13.28.6 (talkcontribs) 11:02, March 18, 2007 (UTC)

I'm sorry about the formality of the tone in my previous post, but day after day of vandal-fighting tends to make one frigid even in cases where the good intention is obvious. I'm not an admin, so the block wasn't mine. I did revert some edits. I am watching Solar System to look for future problems. You can ask for page protection at WP:RFPP, and you can explain the incidents at WP:ANI. You may want to do both. A semi-protection on the page will stop IPs and newly created accts from vandalising. Currently, Turok 1 has Turoks 01-18, and Turok 19 has the rest. It seems illogical that Turok 1 is the sock and Turok 19 is the master. So, I guess for the sake of easy reference, we tag them all Turok 1. Even Turok 19 states 1. —210physicq (c) 05:45, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Bob Woolmer...

Yes, we should know better at coming between rabid cricket fans and their work... ;) I tried to nip this whole fiasco in the bud very early on. But by then a link to the death article had somehow been added to ITN and several editors were camped out on the death article (A lot of whom, I bet, don't realise that it was a copy and paste job from the original article). This whole thing has been done backwards, the fork should be the last thing we consider not the first. Oh well it doesn't matter, other than some minor inconveniences over the two targets for editors instead of one, the outcome will be the same in the end - we'll either have one article with a small death section or two articles if the story of the death becomes a saga. And yes, some people are carrying on as if this is a deletion proposal lol I suspect a lot of this kind of thing is encouraged by how ITN currently works. A lot of people are creating throw away stubs of many news reports they see in an effort to get "their article" mentioned on the main page. There's a lot of this going on. Almanac-style sports result articles which are little more than a scoreboard, similar election result stubs, news flash stubs of minor subsets of larger issues that should be included on their parent article. An encyclopedia shouldn't be just lists, facts and figures. It should present a more holistic discussion of topics. This is all adding up to the 1.7+ million quantity over quality articles we have on en.wp. */rant* ;) --Monotonehell 03:43, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
