Lupe Vélez

[edit]

Hello. I noticed that you edit the Lupe Vélez article quite frequently. While your edits appear to be in good faith, I have reverted them again as they continue to be problematic. This past April, I took a good chunk of time rewriting and sourcing the article. I did that because the article was poorly written, as if it were roughly translated to English, and was either unsourced or poorly sourced. We need to use clear, grammatically correct English and source content to what Wikipedia considers reliable source (not blog). While I still believe you're trying to help, you keep reintroducing awkwardly worded content to the article (ie "After moving to the United States, she joined to the Hollywood silent film industry in 1927.", "Her characterization of the temperamental, explosive, rebellious and irreverent latin woman, gave her great popularity among the audience in the United States." and "Lupe's mother presented them to her and her sister Josefina, with the popular Mexican vedette Maria Conesa"). Aside from a few style issues, these sentence are difficult to comprehend as they are not written in proper English. If English is not your native language, I'd be happy to help you add content as long as it is encyclopedic and is not already included. Repeatedly adding the same poorly worded content that is difficult to read is not helpful. Further, please stop adding the subject's birth and death location to the lead. That was changed by another user some time ago to comply with WP:BIRTHPLACE. If you need any additional help, please feel free to drop me a line on my talk page or the article talk page. Thank you. Pinkadelica (Talk) 22:57, 31 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, MasqueIV. Thank you for contacting me regarding the Vélez article. Admittedly, I know very little about her career or life. I'm sure you know a lot more about her and have access to more sources that could add more depth to the article which is why I dropped you a note. It's clear you have the skills and the language is a bit of barrier which I'll be glad to help with. I understand your feelings about me using the Michelle Vogel book heavily. I try not to do that when I source articles, but I had little choice as it is practically the only English language biography that deals with Vélez's in depth. I could not use the Spanish sources provided because I don't speak or read Spanish and I don't trust translation sites except for loose translations. I wasn't trying to be unfair and I do apologize if my actions were interpreted that way. Non-English sources are welcome, but I just wasn't sure if what I wanted to write was supported by them. If you could translate whatever sources you'd like to use and what you'd like to write, I'd be happy to write it up and add it. Conversely, we can use our talk page or the article talk page to discuss such matters and you can add the content (I don't mean to imply you're not allowed to edit the article!). My real interest in making sure the content is written clearly and accurately. Although I don't know much about Vélez's career, I don't like the fact that her death is, even in 2015, inaccurately reported and oftentimes made into a joke. As for the article, I'd really like to flesh out her early career in Mexican vaudeville. She became the highest paid performer at one point so I'm sure there are more stories about that period of her life. When and if you'd like to work on the article, please drop me a note and we can start on whatever section you'd like. I look forward to learning more about Vélez and I always like meeting people who enjoy classic films. Have a lovely day. Pinkadelica (Talk) 20:43, 1 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Latin American 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Latin America/The 10,000 Challenge ‎ has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Argentina etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Latin American content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon. If you would like to see this happening for Latin America, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Latin America, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant!♦ --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 00:41, 27 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Beauties of the Night (documentary), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Vedette. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Copying within Wikipedia requires proper attribution

[edit]

Hi. I see you created the article Teatro Fru Fru using Palacio de Bellas Artes as a template. That's okay, but you have to give attribution so that our readers are made aware that you copied the prose rather than wrote it yourself. I've added the attribution for this particular instance. Please make sure that you follow this legal requirement when copying from compatibly-licensed material in the future, even in cases like this where you later remove the material. Please let me know on my talk page if you have any questions. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 13:24, 5 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Problem with your custom signature

[edit]

You have a custom signature set in your account preferences. A change to Wikipedia's software has made your current custom signature incompatible with the software.

The problem: Your preferences are set to interpret your custom signature as wikitext. However, your current custom signature does not contain any wikitext.

The solutions: You can reset your signature to the default, or you can fix your signature.

Solution 1: Reset your signature to the default:
  1. Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
  2. Uncheck the box (☑︎→☐) that says "Treat the above as wiki markup."
  3. Remove anything in the Signature: text box. (It might already be empty.)
  4. Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page. (The red "Restore all default settings" button will reset all of your preference settings, not just the signature.)
Solution 2: Fix your custom signature:
  1. Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
  2. Uncheck the box (☑︎→☐) that says "Treat the above as wiki markup."
  3. Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page.

More information about custom signatures is available at Wikipedia:Signatures#Customizing how everyone sees your signature. If you have followed these instructions and still want help, please leave a message at Wikipedia talk:Signatures. 19:04, 3 September 2020 (UTC)

Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution (second request)

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Orson Welles into Dolores del Río. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also.
