Hi, YuriGagrin12,
Even if there was a notable micro-nation called "The Republic of New Italy" - which there isn't - in Italian it would be "Repubblica della Nouva Italia".
Pietro "quattro e venti" AU aka --Shirt58 (talk) 11:02, 22 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I understand wikipedia is not a free web host service and I hope to contribute to actual articles, I thought sandbox was used as you wish though and I just wanted to understand and see how country boxes and templates work. I thank you for correcting me though on the Repubblica issue. I can read and write Italian however it was just thought to me by my father, Arrivederci. YuriGagrin12 (talk) 17:20, 22 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Shirt58: I'll just ping them to restore it - seems reasonable that someone would want to experiment with templates Galobtter (pingó mió) 04:35, 23 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

sandbox

[edit]
I understand Wikipedia is not a free web host service and I hope to contribute to a lot of articles in the future, in the sandbox I was experimenting with templates and trying to get used to and practice editing and using templates. I have looked at the info page on sandboxes and do not believe my page should've been deleted. YuriGagrin12 (talk) 17:31, 22 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Apology about the deletion of your sandbox

[edit]

Hi YuriGagrin12, and again welcome to Wikipedia!
I owe you an apology. I made a far bigger mistake than creating a sandbox page about a non-existent micro-nation.

What I did
  • I saw a page that was tagged for speedy deletion
  • I deleted it - your sandbox
  • I sent you a message that could be seen at best unhelpful and at worst just plain rude
What I should have done, but didn't
  • Checked your contributions, and found out that you were a new editor
  • Sent you a message explaining what the problem was with your sandbox
  • Encouraged you to continue contributing to the Wikipedia project

All editors should assume that changes made to Wikipedia are improvements and that new editors may not be aware of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. That includes me.
As I'm an English language Wikipedia administrator as well as an editor here, I am obliged to act with a high standard of care and judgement.
By deleting your sandbox without a proper explanation, I think I failed the expectations of a Wikipedia editor and the obligations of a Wikipedia administrator. I apologise for my mistake.
Please let me me know if I can assist you in any way about Wikipedia.
Peter in Australia aka --Shirt58 (talk) 10:36, 23 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I went to the help desk and after a while I found out what was wrong with my sandbox. I now understand you cannot put any wrong information in your sandbox even if you are trying to experiment with templates(or at least thats what a user said there, I don't know how to tag articles or anything like that yet so sorry). And thank you for leaving that message. I should apologize too as I didn't read all the rules before creating it. Thank you and I hope to see you again on wikipedia :) YuriGagrin12 (talk) 15:18, 23 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. This is just a note to let you know that I've moved the draft that you were working on to Draft:Return of the Obra Dinn, from its old location at User:YuriGagrin12/sandbox. This has been done because the Draft namespace is the preferred location for Articles for Creation submissions. Please feel free to continue to work on it there. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to ask me on my talk page. Thank you.  sami  talk 20:45, 24 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Okay [[User:Samee}} Thank you for letting me know, also do you think my draft and sources are good and could be accepted? YuriGagrin12 (talk) 22:19, 24 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm Shellwood. I noticed that in this edit to Shenzhou (spacecraft), you removed content without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Shellwood (talk) 22:33, 24 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Okay I am very sorry, I put a description in the inboxes page but it showed up on the Shenzou page and I tried to delete that text on the top and it deleted the Shenzou template, please forgive me, I tried to undo the edit but then someone else did. Thank you for uploading File:ReturnoftheObraDinntite.gif. However, it is currently missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can verify that it has an acceptable license status and a verifiable source. Please add this information by editing the image description page. You may refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation.

ATTENTION: This is an automated, bot-generated message. This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 03:00, 26 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I put the image a unknown copyright so someone could help me later with it. This is just the title screen of the game from the creators website. I have put where I got the image from as the upload page said to do if it was an unknown copyrighted image. YuriGagrin12 (talk) 03:35, 26 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I have reduced the file size now too. YuriGagrin12 (talk) 15:01, 26 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:ReturnoftheObraDinntite.gif

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading File:ReturnoftheObraDinntite.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 19:07, 1 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I saw your comment at the Village pump. If you want to translate articles, you just need to give it a name that starts with User:YuriGagrin12/ After you publish the translated article to your userspace, you can WP:MOVE it to the mainspace, where it will be treated like any other article that you create. Any autoconfirmed editor (=10 edits + 4 days old) can do this. WhatamIdoing (talk) 06:57, 27 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@WhatamIdoing: Thank you, I have already made some but not published, but the main problem I want to address is if any auto confirmed user can do that why can't the translation requirements just be auto confirmed. YuriGagrin12 (talk) 15:13, 27 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think I can give you an answer that doesn't make someone sound bad.
So, with apologies in advance for the blunt assessment:
  • Some editors here think that all other Wikipedias are worse, so they don't want translated articles. In this group, I put people who believe that other Wikipedias don't cite enough sources and people who believe that other Wikipedias write too much about subjects that might not be WP:Notable.
  • In other cases, they think that all translators are bad until proven otherwise, so they don't want translated articles. They think that all translators are likely to be bad at writing English, and they see 500 edits as a test to show that the person can write in English. (I know native English speakers and people who use English as their primary language who have been stopped by this rule.) You may have noticed at some of the pages that describe this block, there is an assertion that 95% of articles needed to be deleted. Well, what they fail to mention is that (a) that number included a large number of 100%-machine-translated articles added by a single person, (b) most of those articles were deleted for reasons other than translation quality, and (c) this isn't very different from the deletion rate of brand-new articles by new editors.
  • There is also a group that doesn't want any more articles. Some editors find new articles to be a real burden. They worry that an incomplete article makes Wikipedia look bad. Although they know it's impossible, these editors like the fantasy of stopping article creation entirely, perhaps except for "important" new things. Since they can't have that, they are trying to hide as many new articles from readers until they're practically perfect (especially on "unimportant" subjects, such as popular culture subjects in non-English-speaking countries), and to make it hard for newer editors to create articles in general.
    • One of the problems they've discovered: Since ACTRIAL was planned last summer, some paid spammers started making 10 edits and waiting four days, so that each paid article is posted by an auto-confirmed account. Since the autoconfirmed restriction didn't stop the paid spammers, they think that auto-confirmed status is too easily reached (rather than the wrong approach in general), and would oppose having the bar be the same for translation as it is for spammers. (Instead, they would like to raise the bar for the spammers to match what's imposed on translators.)
  • Finally, there is the Security through obscurity group, which thinks that the auto-confirmed workaround is a feature. They think, if you know enough about Wikipedia to figure out how this works, then you must be an experienced editor (at some wiki). In their mind, this keeps inexperienced editors out, and good editors in. So the rule, in their minds, is "500 edits for newbies, but 10 edits for experienced editors". (You don't have to be autoconfirmed to publish the translation. You need the 10 edits only to move the page to the mainspace.)
Other people might divide the groups differently, and perhaps I would on a different day, but this is my current way of thinking about it. The mindsets are profoundly different from the view produced in the recent strategy exercise. WhatamIdoing (talk) 17:21, 27 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@WhatamIdoing: Wow, thank you for that explanation. I can see where some of these groups are coming from but some are absurd and really don't support a free and ever changing online Encyclopedia. Also how do you add those badges like I contribute using OS X Yosemite? Ive noticed them several times but how do you add them?
I can see where they're coming from, too, but I don't agree with them. I hope that we will find some solutions that keep some of the perceived benefits but reduce some of the real harms.
You can probably find the userboxes (badges) you want in the lists at Wikipedia:Userboxes/Galleries/All. WhatamIdoing (talk) 20:27, 27 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free rationale for File:Il collegio.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Il collegio.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F6 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — JJMC89(T·C) 23:45, 16 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@JJMC89 Thanks for the heads up! This image is also on the Italian Wikipedia, https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Il_Collegio.png , that didn't have a rationale so I thought i wouldnt have to have one either. Sorry and I will correct that soon! YuriGagrin12 (talk) 00:18, 17 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
