Gervais School District

[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was procedural keep. Creation of article, list, or disambiguation page at this title is encouraged. Deryck C. 11:58, 10 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This redirect is somewhat misleading, as Gervais High School is not the only school in the Gervais School District. Beyond this, I would like to eventually complete the pages of Gervais School District, the associated Elementary School, and Middle School. Additionally for discussion: if a Gervais School District entry is to be written and the redirect is kept, would it be acceptable to overwrite the redirect with new content? dross (c · @) 22:05, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Dross: Overwriting redirects with content is not only possibly it is encouraged. I think in this case a stub article that said Gervais School District is a school district in city and/or county, state, along with a list of schools the district and anything else encyclopaedic you can find in a few minutes searching would be the best bet here. Thryduulf (talk) 00:55, 20 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Relisting comment: @Dross: Indeed we would encourage you to overright the redirect with a new article straight away. But until you are ready to do that, would you prefer to keep or delete the redirect in the meantime?

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was no consensus/moot. There is no consensus to delete the redirect, and now the redirect has been replaced with a stub/start article. At this point, I also do not see another relist further clarifying consensus. If the community believes that the current content at The Simulation should be moved to The Simulation (album), please start a move request on Talk:The Simulation. (non-admin closure) Steel1943 (talk) 01:24, 10 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Because it's a yet to be notable 2019 album and because it's a redirect? It could be reconsidered if it were a detailed article and would claim primary topic, but that is not the case here. It would have to be as notable as the band who released the album. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 00:26, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This film was apparently thought of in the early 2000s, but never came to be. For this reason, "upcoming" is probably inaccurate since there do not seem to be any plans to finish or release this project. Steel1943 (talk) 21:52, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure about this one. The redirect is an {{R with history}} referencing a film that Gorrilaz was attempting to create around the 2007–08 timeframe. Per the article, it seems the band lost interest multiple times in finishing this film project, and it never got completed. In other words, the redirect is confusing, and I’m not sure if the history is worth saving. Steel1943 (talk) 20:58, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was delete. I was tempted to call this a WP:Trainwreck but figured that the comments here would support deletion in both cases, albeit for different reasons. There is consensus that "Gorani (Language)" with a capital L doesn't serve any useful disambiguation purpose because we also have Gorani (language). There is some disagreement over whether "Gorani language (Gorani)" is useful, but on balance the arguments seem to point towards a conclusion that the bracket ought to same something that isn't "Gorani" or "language" to be useful, so this redirect can be deleted. Deryck C. 11:56, 10 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not useful: miscapitalisations are fine, but not when they appear inside the disambiguator (note that Gorani (language) already exists). The second redirect uses an implausible disambiguator that doesn't disambiguate at all. – Uanfala (talk) 16:33, 18 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep one. I edited redirects.

Gorani (language)Gorani language .... there is a similar redirect Gorani (dialect)Gora dialect
Delete only redirect Gorani (Language) --SrpskiAnonimac (talk) 14:02, 20 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
SrpskiAnonimac, I'm not sure I see your point about Gorani language (Gorani): the disambiguator in the parentheses simply repeats the language/ethnicity name and it doesn't help in disambiguating between the two. If we are to model a redirect after Gorani language (Zaza-Gorani), then it will have to be something like Gorani language (Slavic), as "Zaza-Gorani" is the name of the higher-order language group (though that's not really a good disambiguator as it's too narrow and virtually unknown; a general, more widely recognisable name like "Iranian" would have been better). – Uanfala (talk) 16:31, 24 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was retarget to String literal#Delimiter collision. This discussion raised an interesting question: Do we think our readers want to search about three quotation marks, or about a single quotation mark by wrapping it in an open and close quotation mark pair? The rough consensus seems to be that the three quotation mark interpretation is more plausible, and 59.149 raised a good point that this is a search one can do on Wikipedia but not most search engines (which will parse this as a bunch of search modifiers). Deryck C. 12:48, 6 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not mentioned in target article. Steel1943 (talk) 14:56, 15 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Retarget to People counter#Business metrics where this usage of "Footfall" is explained. I'm about to create Footfall (disambiguation) (Footfall is a novel). Thryduulf (talk) 14:19, 17 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. "Footfall" may be mentioned at Thryduulf's proposed retarget, but not "average daily footfall". -- Tavix (talk) 01:55, 18 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • Not in those exact words, but we need to credit our users with some intelligence and that includes understanding that "Footfall measures the number of people who enter a shop or business in a particular period of time." is relevant to "average daily footfall". The target is significantly more useful than a redlink. Thryduulf (talk) 10:24, 18 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
      • Someone searching "average daily footfall" is going to want information on that term, and the suggestion you provide is too broad for that purpose. I can envision several reasons for searching this term, even if the term itself seems intuitive. Is this an industry standard or well-used metric for measuring footfall? Perhaps someone wants to know how to calculate it. Does this metric use well-defined parameters, such as a set period of time to average from? (a month? a quarter? a year?) If not, then would averaging two days be okay, or does there have to be a minimum length of time? -- Tavix (talk) 14:23, 18 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
        • So just because we don't have everything that someone might be looking for we should make it more difficult to find what we do have? That is completely contrary to the spirit of Wikipedia and actively harmful to readers. Any more information about footfall will be added there as well, so it is clearly the best target. Keep - There isn't a reason to redirect this to Roblox. It'd be like redirecting To The Moon to RPG Maker XP - while made with the program they aren't directly considered a feature of RPG Maker XP/Roblox. Piklies (talk) 13:37, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It's not a discussion to keep the article about Jailbreak, but to keep the redirect to Roblox, versus deleting the redirect outright. -- ferret (talk) 14:19, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Keep The Roblox article needs expansion on some of it's more popular games, and I'll take care of it shortly here. The game itself though is not independently notable. As much as I feel this game is non-notable, I feel sending a brand new redirect to RfD is a (unintentionally) underhanded way to delete the article history. -- ferret (talk) 14:12, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
