I was chosen to take on designing and building an Igloo. I was happy to be put on this project because it was my first choice. After meeting with my team, I am going to be involved in more of the construction of the igloo. I also drew up a few sketches of what I think a typical igloo looks like. I am hoping this project goes much smoother than the last. This weekend, I looked up Igloos and sketched a few out. I also am in the process of creating a mock up by Tuesday.

During week one of the Igloo project, I was leading the construction of the Igloo. So far, I am working on the second mockup currently. The first mockup was extremely simple while the second is much more complicated and is actually a half-sphere. Both igloos were made of foam board, but the second one requires much more intricate cuts. I am hoping to finish the second mockup by Tuesday so we can began the construction of a larger model.

Week2 Narrative

[edit | edit source]

During week 2, I constructed multiple clay igloos to better represent the spherical shape. I then took what I believed was the best design and started focusing on it.

I took the calculations for the model Igloo. Each block in the first layer should be different because it acts as a ramp for the next layers. After the bottom layer is complete, the blocks in the next three layers should have approximately the same dimension. The blocks for the top layer and the key stone will be significantly different because of the increased angle changes. I am now going to find and document the dimensions of those specific block.

Outside of Igloo:

Diameter:4in

Circumference:12.5in

Height:3in

Inside of Igloo:

Diameter:2.5in

Circumference:7.85in

Height:2.33in

12.5 blocks make up the bottom layer. 12.5 - 2(blocks taken away for door)= 10.5 blocks

First layer height excluding doorway:

H=1.052x+.104 x=block number

1-.156(inches)

2-.208

3-.260

4-.312

5-.364

6-.416

7-.468

8-.520

9-.572

Week4 Narrative

[edit | edit source]

The final week of project Igloo was focused on creating the Team Page. I worked on the page by working with Jason to add data and by creating a chart that would display the relationship amongst the blocks. I had many pictures for documentation, but it actually was erased.
