Etymology

[edit]

Unadapted borrowing from Arabic سَجَّادَة (sajjāda, prayer rug). The insertion of the final /n/ in variants is perhaps influenced by other Philippine languages in Mindanao. Compare Tausug sudjara, Indonesian sajadah, and Malay sejadah. See also -an suffix.
