Conscriptus est consilio populari(en) ab anno 1957. Minister a rebus externis a die 26 Martii 1977 usque ad 28 Iulii 1979 factus est, primo ministro Morarji Desai. Ipse bis primus minister meruit, a die 16 Maii 1996 ad 1 Iunii eiusdem anni, iterum ab 19 Martii 1998 ad 22 Maii 2004.
