Over the years, the Atlantic has attracted a mixture of the great and the good, including John Cleese and Jamie Lee Curtis (while filming Fierce Creatures in 1995) and the English rugby team during the 1991 World Cup. “It was the only time we ever served beer in pint mugs,” said Patrick Burke, owner of the hotel. “They were determined to have pint mugs.” The team was taking a break during the tournament.
Led Zeppelin once stayed for a whole summer, during which the drummer John Bonham left his Bentley on the beach at low tide and had it ruined. It was a wild time, remembered Patrick, who took over running the hotel from his father in 1987.
Since then he has overseen a total
