NEW DELHI: Tokyo Olympic bronze medallist boxer Lovlina Borgohain fell short against Cindy Ngamba of the Refugee Boxing Team at the Grand Prix Usti nad Labem in the Czech Republic on Thursday.
The bout ended in a 0-5 unanimous decision in favor of Ngamba, marking Lovlina's second 75kg bout defeat.
Despite the loss, this isn’t the end of Borgohain’s campaign.
Since the female weight categories follow a round robin format, she still has opportunities to compete.
Borgohain, who has already secured her spot for the Paris Olympics, will next face Li Qian of China.
Qian is a two-time Olympic medallist and boasts three World Championships medals, including a gold. She previously defeated Borgohain in the Asian Games' summit clash last year. The upcoming match will be a significant challenge for the 26-year-old Indian boxer.
The Grand Prix Usti nad Labem tournament, organized by World Boxing, includes four competitors in the women's 75kg category -- Borgohain, Ngamba, Qian, and Chantal Reid.
Earlier, Borgohain managed a tough split decision win over England's Reid in her first bout on Thursday.
She is one of six Indian boxers who have qualified for the Paris Olympics and aims to secure her second Olympic medal.
