Hi @MdsShakil and 1997kB:! Any thought oh this? If I try to register ^-^- (since ^-^ is already taken) I get a warning "Usernames must contain one or more characters". If i remember correctly, in the past we already renamed some user into a some punctuation marks, but I don't remember if there were even letters. @Superpes15 To my knowledge, the reason why registering only with punctuation is not allowed is to prevent confusion. If there are no other technical limitations, this request could be processed since there are multiple punctuations. —MdsShakil (talk) 13:26, 18 March 2023 (UTC)
@Superpes15 Such usernames got registered when username requirements were less restrictive but since they are in place now, we shouldn't allow any new names that the software normally disallow. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 23:45, 19 March 2023 (UTC)

    I understand that merging is not possible. But, the rules don't saw that my current account must have significant edits, while the to-be-usurped account must have minor edits. The rule is that the to-be-usurped has minor edits. Margirou2 has minor edits and has been inactive for years. Why can't it be usurped and why was my request closed/Not done?     @Margirou2 There is no proof that the account is yours, and you are not sure. In order to ensure that usurped usernames are put to good use, we prefer only to grant requests from reasonably well-established users, where your account is completely new. I think this is a valid reason for not accepting the request. You may come here in future when your current account is established. —MdsShakil (talk) 19:36, 9 April 2023 (UTC)
    Agree with above! Also, as said by Vincend Vega, Margirou has valid edits and not only minors, so it's not usurpable, they also created some translations. Please, try to recover your previous account (if you had any attached emails) by writing to ca@wikimedia.org, otherwise we really can't help you in this case. Best!     Can you, at least, provide guidance as to if I the personal information and e-mail address of my account have any similarity to the other account?
