Requests for global rollback permissions

Global rollback for Matiia

Hello, I have been doing countervandalism for a while on #cvn-sw (among other channels), and I would like to have the GR flag, it will be easier than using Twinkle, that sometimes doesn't load very well or I can't use it until I have a few edits, and my Internet doesn't help hehe, also, I could avoid captcha issues. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Matiia (talk)

When I saw that edit, the IP address had not created yet that page, I saw he was making a redirection from that page to a broken link, that's why I made that edit. And no, it was not right, the user didn't respected the "attribution". I think I should have waited a little more and see what was the user going to do after that, and see if he was going to create the page. --Matiia (talk) 06:05, 22 February 2015 (UTC)
    • Why did you revert the addition of a correct Croatian translation of "bedsheet" on Bulgarian Wiktionary?
It was a mistake. Already fixed. --Matiia (talk) 06:05, 22 February 2015 (UTC)

Global rollback for Bigwill91

Just created my new account, Bigwill91. If I see vandalism on a page, I can use this tool to revert it to the last revision. Bigwill91 (talk) 21:38, 19 February 2015 (UTC)

Yes. However, I think my account has been autocomfirmed. Bigwill91 (talk) 22:01, 19 February 2015 (UTC)
Not done no edits except from this request. --Vituzzu (talk) 22:08, 19 February 2015 (UTC)
Well, this means that I only did less edits. Bigwill91 (talk) 22:15, 19 February 2015 (UTC)
Guess what; I did one revert on Translations:Tech/News/17/ja, because I found vandalism. Regards, Bigwill(History) Timestamp: 05:09, 20 February 2015 (UTC)

Global rollback for Brackenheim

Hello, I'm an active filemover on Commons who tries to keep Category:Media requiring renaming empty, so global autopatrol would be really useful and lokal users needn't mark changes like this as vandalism-free any more. Kind regards, --Brackenheim (talk) 17:55, 27 February 2015 (UTC)

Global rollback for R3kt

Hi all! I'm R3kt (formally Samuel Najdowski (also known as Snaj, alpha, etc on IRC) and I'd like to request global rollback today because I'm a member of the Counter-vandalism network and SWMT. You see, I was a newbie about a year ago, and now that I plan to stick to this account I've been sticking to for 5+ months, I'd like to request for these rights. I'm helpful in the SWMT channel, I know policies of when to revert and when not to (I've done Counter-vandalism on Wikia, but I've decided to move to WMF CVN recently) and in addition to that, even though my edit count is low atm, I plan to do more counter-vandalism even after I request this.. so no hard feelings if people say oppose. I'm known throughout the countervandalism community as a helper and a knowledgeable person when it comes to countervandalism (I've done it since October 2013); I've been active in most of the channels for a while now. Some Wikians might not like me due to past behavior, but I can assure you that isn't me anymore. Last but no least, I know what the rollback tools do and when to use them and when not to, as I've stated and most Wikimedians should know that. I'm just starting out, but my experience is high in this field and I feel I can be a great help if I put my mind to it.. the choice is yours. R3kt (talk) 22:40, 27 February 2015 (UTC)

Request withdrawn per user request on IRC. --Stryn (talk) 22:41, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

Requests for global sysop permissions

Global sysop for Aldnonymous

Not ending before 1 February 2015 12:16 UTC

Hi everyone, I'm volunteering for Global Sysopship to fight Vandalism and Spam, that keep happening on most Small wikis, on my previous Nom (can bee seen Here) People told me to wait for 2-3 month (Ruslik) and Goldenburg says to wait for 6 month, it's been 7 month since then, My experience with Sysop tools are coming from my temp Adminship on id.wikiquote, at that time I manage to caught 1 LTA (Hendrix) that keep spamming unnoticed on many small wiki (Including big wikis such as fr.wp and en.wp), other than that Sysop experience, I can offer different time coverage than most GS (Europe users), and different language skill because most Small wikis come from Global South. Thanks for reading this request.--AldNonUcallin?☎ 12:16, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

Requests for global IP block exemption

Global IP block exempt for Zhaofeng Li

Hi, I'm an editor from China and have to use proxies to bypass Internet censorship. Though Wikimedia projects aren't currently blocked here, the connection can get sometimes wacky. The particular proxy I'm using is my own VPS, 162.220.8.43 (whose rDNS points to zhaofeng.li), which is range-blocked globally by Vituzzu per NOP. I understand that some VPSes in the range may be used as open proxies, but I don't run any on my machine. I already have the exemption locally on enwiki, but having the global bit will make it easier for me to work on other projects. Thank you. Zhaofeng Li [talk... contribs...] 00:51, 31 January 2015 (UTC)

Another option is to review whether such a long rangeblock is ever necessary. Zhaofeng Li [talk... contribs...] 00:54, 31 January 2015 (UTC)
Done Ruslik (talk) 16:45, 31 January 2015 (UTC)
Thank you. Zhaofeng Li [talk... contribs...] 01:02, 1 February 2015 (UTC)
To note that I have softened the block on the range, though cannot guarantee that it will stay that way. Within two days of coming of its last global block of a year, it was back on again for spamming within two days. So this may be an issue that you wish to raise with the service provider about dealing with spambots.  — billinghurst sDrewth 21:02, 1 February 2015 (UTC)

Global IP block exempt for Atcovi

Hey. I am Goldenburg111, now known as Atcovi. I currently have reviewer rights on Wikibooks and rollback on Simple Wiktionary. I have a global account as well. I edit at school, as well as home and other places. I'm always affected from global blocks that my IP has been getting, I can't even log into my account to edit. The last global block was from November 22 to December 22 from Billinghurst after my school IP vandalized Wikipedia, Wikisource, and went up to Wiktionary I believe. The students in my school know about Wikipedia and they usually mess around with wikipedia and the other projects as well. So I can stay away from these global blocks and be able to edit without having to be blocked for "abuse", in which I didn't do, I hope to recieve the Global IP Block Exempt so I can avoid any other global blocks in the future, thanks, --Atcovi (talk) 23:29, 31 January 2015 (UTC)

Thanks Ruslik. Oh and Trijnstel I do apologize for that incident, but that was 2 years ago, isn't that a bit old? --Atcovi (talk) 20:11, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
Plus he as well did blank that report due to courtesy. --Atcovi (talk) 20:13, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

Global IP block exempt for Lwen1090

<Add an explanation here>, thanks, --Lwen1090 (talk) 00:53, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

@Lwen1080: The block in place is a soft block, so as long as you are logged into your Wikimedia account, you should still be able to edit, so as such, this process is redundant for soft blocks.  — billinghurst sDrewth 12:47, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

Global IP block exempt for Pathoschild

I recently began using always-on anonymising proxies to improve privacy, but this means I run into global blocks placed against proxies. I think granting an IP block exemption to my account is safe and won't reduce the blocks' effectiveness in preventing anonymous abuse, since it would only apply when I'm logged in. —Pathoschild 16:18, 08 February 2015 (UTC)

Global IP block exempt for odder

I would like to request the global IP block exemption for reasons similar to @User:Pathoschild; namely because I have recently taken to using technical means of protecting my on-line privacy and security as well as preventing third parties from using traffic analysis originating from my home; unfortunately, many of the end IP addresses are covered by global IP blocks which prevents me from editing Wikimedia wikis. As a Commons administrator, I already have the local ipblock-exempt user right which should help me avoid local blocks, if they occur. Thanks, odder (talk) 19:27, 8 February 2015 (UTC)

Global IP block exempt for Jim Carter

To enable online anonymity (privacy reason) I'm using TOR. Just like Pathoschild, I think it would be good if IP exemption is granted to my account. Thanks! Jim Carter (talk) 11:47, 16 February 2015 (UTC)

Global IP block exempt for Kharkiv07

Hi! I've been making a lot of contributions to the English Wikipedia, but due to scheduling many of my work will have to be done from an institution that has unfortunately received a global IP block. It would be great if I could receive an exemption so I can continue to edit. You can check out my contributions or my talk page for verification of my clean record. Thanks for consideration! Kharkiv07 (talk) 17:42, 23 February 2015 (UTC)

(Note that the IP in question is 173.86.206.114) Kharkiv07 (talk) 14:26, 25 February 2015 (UTC)

if you are only editing enwiki, you don't need global ip block exempt, you can ask it localy for enwiki Mardetanha talk 14:29, 25 February 2015 (UTC)
Done. The local IPBE group no longer exempts people from global blocks, and honestly forcing them to go through the hoops locally and then come back here if they are ever globally active doesn't seem like a good use of anyone's time. Ajraddatz (talk) 07:28, 26 February 2015 (UTC)
When was this change made? Ruslik (talk) 18:33, 26 February 2015 (UTC)
Not sure, but it has been in place for at least a year now. I first noticed in March of last year when I was confused about stewards not granting the global flag to people only active on one wiki. Ajraddatz (talk) 18:40, 26 February 2015 (UTC)
I am not sure that you are right. Ruslik (talk) 18:49, 26 February 2015 (UTC)
I am looking at the composition of both groups. The local IPBE group contains only ipblock-exempt, when it seems that globalblock-exempt is required to be exempt from local blocks. I have not tested it. Regardless, as I said on the mailing list, moving between projects is increasingly common on Wikimedia (especially with commons and wikidata). Not granting the global flag only prevents users from contributing to other projects when they are clearly trusted enough to not be blocked. Ajraddatz (talk) 19:07, 26 February 2015 (UTC)
Just tested; the ipblock-exempt user right does exempt from global blocks as well. Good call Ruslik0. I still maintain, however, that bouncing users back to the local communities after they request the right here doesn't make sense. Ajraddatz (talk) 19:13, 26 February 2015 (UTC)
Priority is with local right, Global IP block exempt is definitely for people whose nature of work is cross-wiki if not they should ask their respected local community Mardetanha talk 21:34, 26 February 2015 (UTC)
I just assumed that since it was a global IP block it needed to be appealed globally, and a steward in the IRC mentioned that too. If I may recommend that that be clarified somewhere, I would've just gone to enwiki if I saw that it was just a hard block on there as opposed to global. Kharkiv07 (talk) 03:19, 27 February 2015 (UTC)

Global IP block exempt for Scoopfinder

Travelling a lot, I've to use TOR, VPN and anonymous proxies in some countries / companies / schools to access/edit the projects safely. I already have the right on frwiki, but I plan to be active on commons, meta, frwikivoyage and enwiki (and probably more), so becoming a member of this global group seems a time saving oppportunity. (~16k edits, bot with ~50k edits, abusefilter editor on frwiki, no block history) --Scoopfinder (talk) 17:39, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

Global IP block exempt will only exempt your from global blocks, not from local. Ruslik (talk) 20:29, 27 February 2015 (UTC)
I know, Ruslik, I read the policy carefully and, for what I understood, TOR and anonymous proxies can also be global blocked, nope ? For the wikis where I edit mostly, I'll ask for the local exemption (already have it on frwiki + wikidata). Tell me if I'm wrong =) --Scoopfinder(d) 23:04, 27 February 2015 (UTC)

Requests for global rename permissions

Global rename for Doug

Not ending before 8 February 2015 18:38 UTC
Question Question: I'm not sure about your rename experience since you've performed only 1 rename in the past three years, out of 14 renames on la.wikisource since 2006. Or perhaps you can show your experience in other ways? Did and do you understand the rename policies (both global and local)? Trijnsteltalk 18:50, 25 January 2015 (UTC)
Sure, I have assisted in the past in local renames on other wikis, including en.wp, where I helped out on w:Wikipedia:Changing username and w:Wikipedia:Changing username/Usurpations. In part due to a lot of work several years back unifying my own account, I was able to search out and assist with correcting errors by local crats in making name changes, for example failure to move the user pages. In addition, I am familiar with Global rename policy and I have read the technical information and understand the extension. As far as the "local rename policy", I understand the policies on many wikis but if you are speaking of la.ws in particular, it has no polices for anything.--Doug.(talk contribs) 21:41, 26 January 2015 (UTC)
  • I may not, I have been quite inactive for an extended period. Though I am the most likely to use the right on la.ws of anyone. There was essentially an invite posted on la.ws so I decided to request it in case it's needed. I'm a trusted user who knows how and when to use the right; but if you think my inactivity is a bar, then that's cool, I certainly don't have any present need for this right.--Doug.(talk contribs) 01:21, 1 February 2015 (UTC)
