Thank you! Girmitya 10:04, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

I'd have to agree with Girmitya here, when the wiki started, it barely had any articles or community, but since then the wiki has grown quite big and now boast over 550 articles and over 25 active community members. I'll ask stewards to make his adminship permanent  :) ..--Cometstyles 10:18, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

Dsvyas@gu.wiki

I request sysop access.

I have been the only active Sysop on gu.wiki for last 4-5 months, I have been granted temp admin rights twice in past (first time 1.5 month and then 3 months). As the community is very small, there is not enough voting on the nomination page, but still I could get 4 votes in my favor. Community is growing day by day, when I started there were hardly 400 pages, now within this 4-5 months, we have crossed 1000 pages, this is I think because of my active participation as well as other User's contributions. I would appreciate if you could grant me permanent Admin rights on the basis of 4 votes (all in favor), as the community is small and number of contributors is even law.

Thank you. DhavalTalk 11:32, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Hello Dhaval, what do You think about a 6 months period this time, as You said the community still is small and I think when it grows there can be of course held voting, what do You think, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 16:52, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
Hi Birdy, I don't mind having 6 months (once again temp), but don't want to get fed up with this repeatedly asking for access, as you can see there is no other Admin than me active for more than last 6 months, in this case, I don't know what can be the constraint for not granting permanent ADmin with 4 votes, I remember, last time I was told that as the community is small, even if i coudl get 5 votes, I'll get Permanent, and 4 is much more close to 5. Have a think on it and let me know. I would rather after 6 months give up asking for extension if the only reason for temp is that the community is small.--DhavalTalk 17:08, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
Hello Dhaval, the last thing I want to is to fed You up. Please understand this is only to prevent problems in growing communities we have seen in the past. I would like to propose You, lets make it temp for 6 months this time and after six months if everything is fine and the voting has not changed or change to Your favor lets make it permanent, could You agree to that without giving up? --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 17:44, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
I must agree Birdy, my frined. After all, somethign si better than nothing. Much appreciated your offer, I think by then the community must expand, hope to get things in my favor, or else at least someother admin's favor. Thanks once again for granting it for 6 months.--DhavalTalk 20:37, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
Done Ok, great, I added a note to the rightslog, that You can get permanent status after the 6 months if the voting does not change or changes to Your favor. date of checking back for permanent status: 13-12-2008, best regards, and thanks for Your work there! --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 16:19, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
Much Appreciated Birdy. Thanks for everything!! --DhavalTalk 16:47, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
Hi Birdy/All, My temporary rights are expiring tomorrow, as you can see in local request link that because of the growing community, I could sequre more votes in my favour, and from my local contribution you can judge my activity. Hope this makes me eligible for the Permanent Admin rights. Will much appreciate if I am granted it this time.--DhavalTalk 22:56, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, yes, since promised that it would be permanent if the votes don't change or change in favor (which they did :) ) status is now made permanent, thanks for Your work there and please remember to translate the interface at betawiki: only and upload files preferably to commons:, many thanks, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 00:26, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
A Big Thank You Birdy! Much appreciated. I am really surprised that you are still aware fo both these things, if you would have noticed, there is no more translation going on locally, all the localisation translation is being done on Beta only, and regarding Uploads, am trying to move as much content as I could and advising users to do so as well. Will prefer if I could forward the link to commons rather than local uploads.--DhavalTalk 21:24, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

I guess he wants to prolong his temporary-sysop status he had (see rights log [1])
Firilăcroco, please could You only translate the interface at betawiki: not locally, this would be very important.
Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 20:56, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
Yes, it was on June, but at that time I had temoporary access. There were more than 5 months and anybody who wanted could vote. Firilăcroco discuție / talk 20:40, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
And, did you read and will you follow Spacebirdy's comment? This is really an important issue. --Thogo (talk) 20:45, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
I am translating at Betawiki, and there the work is almost done. And at ro.wikiquote, I editing especially the part of system messages that are different from wiki to wiki (Like the MediaWiki:Youhavenewmessages, MediaWiki:sp-contributions-footer, MediaWiki:Sp-contributions-footer-anon), and how the wikiquote looks like. Can you clarify something? My read of the history of the vote suggests that the vote started May 18th and has been running all this time. Is that correct? If so, isn't that a rather long time for a vote to run? Thanks! ++Lar: t/c 03:23, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
Yes. I think Theoteryi is inactive. but, I also think. That vote result is invalid? no. I think it is effective. I can see the consensus. I hope Theoteryi comes back. :( -- WonRyong 04:52, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
Not done That voting was back in May when he requested temporary sysop status (which he had for three months), since the project is quite small regarding the recent changes and the voting is so old he should make a new one or prolong his temporary status himself if he needs it. Thanks, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 05:26, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Hello,
two votes are very few, and he nearly has no edits, I suggest a temporary period of three months (it is technically the same and can be prolonged).
Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 16:17, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
Hi, my candidature was nominated according to my work in Georgian Wikipedia and not in wikiquote, but your suggestion is quite acceptable. In addition there are 6 votes now. Kind regards Rastrelli F23:03, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
Already 6 votes. I'm current administrator of this project, and strongly support for Rastrelli F--Trulala 09:09, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
Hello to You both, thanks for the update.
Looking at the voting shows that most of the voters have very few contributions, please note that I do not put in question Your credibility or reputation, Rastrelli F, it is just that a voting is (or should be) a quality control. On a smaller project where not many users are evaluating the candidates contributions, a temporary status can be helpful.
In the light that the only sysop is supporting Your request and also another user with lots of contributions, I would suggest to grant a temporary period of three months and if the voting does not change to contra until then the status should be made permanent.
What do You think about that? Other stewards opinions are welcomed on this also if they disagree ;)

Hi, I'm back :), about prolonging my sysop rights. Should we hold a new voting about this matter? The community is really little and even inactive, so what do you suggest?--Rastrelli F 20:07, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Hello Rastrelli, thanks for the notice, we just prolong it, expires 09-07-2009,

Removed. --FiliP ██ 10:22, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

Well, ka:wikiquote is without a sysop now. I just want to know, is this type (temporary) of admin really so important? I mean, I've been temporary admin for 6 month and I think it's quite enough time to see one's abilities and contributions, and give him full access. What do you think? --Rastrelli F 10:48, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

In communities with very few editors, we normally just give out temporary rights. When the community grows, it's reasonable to ask for regular sysop rights. I don't know if the community has grown since half a year ago. If so, you can hold formal elections and if there are enough supporting votes, we'd gladly give you permanent rights. Cheers --FiliP ██ 10:52, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
The community has not grown much since then, so what should I do now? Should I initiate another election for prolonging temporary access, or there is no need? --Rastrelli F 12:22, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
Place a note on a local discussion-page (Village pump or something like that), that you intend to prolong your sysop-status, and put a request on SRP that you wish to prolong your temp adminship. Laaknor 12:27, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, here's one question: what quantity of active community must reach to gain permanent admin? Kind regards --Rastrelli F 12:58, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

Bureaucrat access

Bisgaard@da:Wikisource

Thank you! Bisgaard 18:19, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

I don't see a voting there, was there one? --Thogo (talk) 18:23, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
da:ws is a very small project, so i don't think you should expect any vote. As you can see at stewardry i am the only active sysop on the project, and the current bureaucrat havn't been online for 1½ year. --Bisgaard 15:37, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
No voting, no status, sorry. Also being as small as You said it is, it is not in a dire need for a bureaucrat, thanks for Your understanding, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 15:42, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Then it will not have local bureaucrats. After some trouble on other small projects we cannot grant bureaucrat rights without a broad support of an active community any more. If you have something bureaucratic to do, you can request it here or on the appropriate page (for bot flags and renamings there are separate pages). --Thogo (talk) 15:44, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
I'm sorry to hear this, but could you please direct me to some additional information on this? As far as i know the only different between a sysop and a beureaucrat is that the last can make other sysops and rename users, not the most troubling things. --Bisgaard 17:27, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
Yes, and exactly that had been the problem, there were some cases (and still are) where not voted bureaucrats act like dictators on small projects and that is why we ask for votings or don't give that status (also sysop access btw.). Votings are just a quality control of the community, they evaluate the users by their behaviour, that mostly works good, but if there is no control at all there are too many problems.
But it should not be a big deal for da.wikisource, if there is need of more sysops they can simply add a local request and will then be granted sysop by a steward (after a week they can add a note here) or if there is need of local bots they can apply to SRB, renaming usually goes to SRUC, or for usurping accounts/SUL-problem solving also SR/SUL.
Hope that helps, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 17:38, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

Thank you! Jyothis 13:43, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

Hold off on archiving this please, thanks... there were only 5 votes and the election did not run for very long. Normally elections should run for at least a week and there should be enough supports (and current admins) to show that a 'crat is needed... ++Lar: t/c 16:41, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
I've reversed myself, and re-opened this. Angela 23:46, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
Thats alright. It can wait for the time that is required. Just wanted to let you all know that there is only one admin available (He has voted too) in the project and all the people voted there as of now are sysops in other ml wiki projects. Thanks. --Jyothis 00:23, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
@Angela, thanks! @Jyothis: You're asking for a 'cratship... but if that should fail for whatever reason please ask for a temporary adminship to help out... Thanks for your understanding as well. ++Lar: t/c 00:47, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
No probs Lar. ml wiki project admins have collectively decided to ramp up the activism in the smaller wikis in the ml language family. The responsibilities will be divided among the active Sysops/BCs of ml wikipedia to shape up each project. We think we are managing a good show with ml wiki, where we have a attained a depth of 138 and 8k+ articles. I am taking the initiative to step up and lead this project as a part of the same. --Jyothis 01:20, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

In progress - 7 supports for a 'cratship (especially directly from regular user without an intervening adminship) is a bit low, but you have given good reasons for this request being a bit out of the ordinary. Please be patient, this is under a bit of discussion. ++Lar: t/c 00:50, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

Robert Ullmann@sw wiktionary

I request temporary sysop access.

  • Language Code: sw
  • List of local sysops: (none, except I think Dubaduba, not active)
  • List of local bureaucrats: (none)
  • Local User Page: sw:User:Robert Ullmann
  • Preferred duration and reason: 3-6 months, (translate interface), maintain, try to find some users

As "Muddyb" observes, previous has expired, and we do want to work on it; I have a couple of other contributors now ;-) I live in Nairobi, I hear and use Swahili every day; I want to try to build this.

Thank you. Robert Ullmann 09:07, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

On hold Hello Robert Ullmann, please may I ask You to translate the interface at betawiki: only. Also I would like to see a local announcement because at least one of the other sysop appears in the recent changes. Many thanks for Your understanding, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 07:14, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
That's why (translate i/f) is in parens, I have done the basics via betawiki (with your help), more to do; Mohammed (Muddyb) is very concerned (see blast on wikimusi:Ongea last Nov about not having i/f in Kiswahili ;-). But do note, without criticizing him, please! : he has no NS:0 edits (except wikt:sw:Watu which isn't the correct caps, I am NOT knocking this!), while I and my sister(in-law) and my semi-automation have created almost all NS:0 content, and our team is set to do a lot more after the Kenyatta University exams are complete. I need to edit monobook/common css/js for template support, etc. Looking forward to working with Muddyb, Swahili in Kenya/Nairobi and Tanzania/Dar are different (in TZ it is the official language, in KE the vernacular ;-) And so on ... I did very much like you signing "ndege" on sw.wikt ... we also have one b'crat rename request: should that go here somewhere? Robert Ullmann 23:39, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Felipe Aira@tl.wikibooks

I request sysop access, again.

I need administrative powers again. This is the second time it expired. I really request that you make this permanent this time. There is no effective communtiy. There are only around 2, besides me, active users who periodically come to the wiki. I have been a former admin there, and a current admin at Tagalog Wikipedia. You may also want to see the community request link, whereas there is one person who supports my adminship. He was the former temporary admin before I came, and an active contributor at Tagalog projects. Thank you. -- Felipe Aira 11:51, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

We typically do not make permanent sysops unless there is community. Granting a temporary sysopship is intended to enable the growth of a community that can select a permanent one itself. One other person probably is not quite enough "community" just yet. We can easily and gladly grant you another temporary sysopship if you wish. If on the other hand there is no community, and no prospect of one forming, ever, or at least not any time soon, then perhaps this wiki should be shelved until there is a prospect. Hope that helps clarify policy. SO... let us know if you'd like another. Myself I'd be fine with giving you another 3 months if you wish. ++Lar: t/c 02:17, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

itsmine@zh-classical.wikipedia

The following discussion is closed.

It is a combined request in the discussion page at zh-classical wikipedia, since it is not convenience for zh-classical wikipedia to hold 5 separate requests at such a small community size. The others were nominated for the editor rights, and I have granted them, since the proposal was accepted under no objection for 7 days (result is 1:0). However, the reviewer rights require the Bureaucrats to do this, and zh-classical does not have a Bureaucrat, thus I request here. Thank you! Itsmine 07:05, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Hello Itsmine, since there is no voting for crat, we could only grant temporary cratship to assign the reviewer rights (alternatively You could think about asking at bugzilla: to allow sysops assigning these rights).
Would a week be ok?
Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 14:04, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply! However, what is the meaning of crat? Since it is not a bug, I cannot propose in bugzilla. Under the current situation, only Bureaucrats in zh-classical has the right to grant the reviewer and editor posts, and sysop can merely grant the editor posts. Thus I propose here. If meta has not established a policy about granting the reviewer rights to other wikipedia, I can wait until the official rules establish. Thanks again.--Itsmine 14:21, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Hello, sorry, I used "crat" as abreviation for "bureaucrat". Bugzilla is not only for 'bugs' but also for requesting such things only developers can change. So You could request there that also sysops are allowed to assign the reviewer rights (should be an unproblematic request since on testwiki: also normal users can assign the editor and reviewer rights), either at bugzilla: or at #wikimedia-techconnect.
The problem is not that we can't grant You bureaucrat rights, the problem is, that there is no local voting for You to become bureaucrat, therefore I suggested temporary bureaucrat-ship, so You can grant the reviewer rights locally.
Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 14:26, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

OKay, thanks for your detailed explanation! However, will the Reviewer rights be obsolete after the temporary term of bureaucrat? If the reviewer rights can be kept, then I really appreciate your help to have a temporary rights of bureaucrat. And I will make a post on bugzilla according to your opinions after a while.--Itsmine 14:55, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Once the rights are assined they can only be removed again, the reviewer will stay reviewer, even if there is no bureaucrat anymore.

All looks fine here, I would say lets start with 3 months, but as Thogo suggested too lets wait some days, just in case anyone reads that page and (is)was active there and would like to say something.
I would say the two, WikiSysop and WikiDeveloper, accounts should have the rights removed, they are inactive (and have 0 everything) and it looks strange in the userlist, also if Brion needs to do something there, I guess he would not use those accounts for it. Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 23:30, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Yes, I agree that a temporary admin will be best at this stage, but I assume that another vote could be held before the six-month term expires. Girmitya 13:19, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
Done by Shanel, it expires 11 Dec 2008--Nick1915 - all you want 09:07, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

1j1z2@zhwikinews

Hello, I'm a user at zhwikinews. And I'm very active at zhwikipedia and wikinews. Here I apply the temporary sysop permission for about 2 weeks. Because the reason why PhiLip apply the permission is still on (see Steward requests/Permissions#PhiLiP@zhwikinews). The student are still handing their homework day by day, hour by hour. However, most of the sysop at zhwikinews are not active. Only 3 of 11 would edit sonething occasionally, and PliLip quit his permission days ago. I've already apply the real sysop permission there yesterday (see n:zh:Wikinews:申請成為管理人員/1j1z2). But the vote needs 2 weeks, until now most voters support me. Wikinews could not wait for two weeks because there's almost no managing. I'm a mature user at zhwikipedia and wikinews, many users trust me. And I'll be a responsible admin to help wikinews handle all the problem. Please let me have the temporary sysop permission, I'll ask for disysop before the real sysop vote ends, no matter what the result will be. Thank you! 1j1z2 17:03, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

Alexsh is a bureaucrat on that project and has edited recently (today). He can promote you with a note stating that the permission is temporary or not. Kylu 18:07, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
Dear Kylu, I know Alexsh has edited today, but he spend little time on the project so that he could not handle most of the problems. As I know, he's now busy doing his own life business, I can't contact him this moment. So I came here to apply the temporary sysop permission. Ijust apply it temporarily, I want my real admin permission by voting.--1j1z2 18:19, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
Hello 1j1z2, the problem is, since he seems active, we will have to ask him every time, I know he said he was busy [9], but them maybe it would be a good idea to vote for a second bureaucrat to help out. Thanks for contacting him, it would be good if he could comment this. Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 18:26, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
OK, it seems that it have to wait for the next morning (of China & Taiwan). And yes, a vote for a second bureaucrat to help out, I'm the candidate, but needs 2 weeks to wait. I'll ask them to write comment here when they wake up. I hope if they agree, you'll allow my application. Thanks--1j1z2 18:35, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
Would it be acceptable to the stewards if local projects enacted a "Stewards may perform promotions if no active bureaucrats have responded in X days" sorts of rules? Kylu 03:31, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
Do you think the local projects need to do that, or could it instead just be written into the steward policies? Otherwise, the least active projects are the ones likely to not have bureaucrats actively responding and not likely to have made such a policy about stewards. Angela 05:30, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
Wouldn't that need global mandate (such as a global vote) to have apply to all projects? Not that it's not a good idea, I just suspect the larger projects would dislike the idea. Kylu 07:33, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
Yes, it probably would, even though it would likely never apply to the larger projects as their bureaucrats are active. Maybe this should be moved to Meta:Babel? Angela 08:09, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
Comment Comment Hi, I think it is very strange to give somebody a temp adminship when there is already a local vote for normal adminship. In my eyes I think that it is better to wait till the local vote is over. Abigor 09:37, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
Comment Comment: Oh, gentlemen, please do not argue for this. If you don't think it's reasonable that I apply for the temp permission, I will give up the application. I just want to help more on the project before the day I (maybe) become a normal admin. I'm not malicious on the application.--1j1z2 15:30, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
I don't see a problem here either if the locals think that is ok, in the past it had been and now we are only waiting for the comment of the local crat. Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 15:33, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
Sorry for long time busy and no response.I'm still thinking how to handle this .Current now 1j1z2 is requesting sysop premission in zh.wikinews, so I think we should complete this RFA first.--Alex S.H. Lin 07:51, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
Ok, thanks for the answer Alex S. H., best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 09:55, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

Hello, I am a sysop of Chinese Wikipedia. Recently in Chinese Wikinews, there are some college students submit their homeworks of journalism. Most of those works were copyright violated or just not news. As a result, I need to request a temporary sysop permission of Chinese Wikinews for one month, to help wikinews deal with those inappropriate edits. Thank you! --PhiLiP 15:31, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

zh.wikinews has local active crats, please contact them, thanks, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 15:37, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
There is no active sysops on Chinese Wikinews now(see toolserver). And I can't contact any local sysops at all. --PhiLiP 15:49, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
