Kazu89@barwiki

Please remove admin rights, because of one year inactivity --Bua333 (talk) 05:20, 7 June 2013 (UTC)

Although the last edit is from 1 June 2012; the last log action is from January 2013 (a self-block). Under the "Komplette Inaktivität" section and "Zeit der Inaktivität" sections; it would not qualify. -- MarcoAurelio (talk) 22:18, 7 June 2013 (UTC)
The single log action within one year was a self-block. From my point of view this was pure nonsense and doesn't count. (Otherwise we let the community decide.) --Bua333 (talk) 01:52, 8 June 2013 (UTC)
I'm thinking that; even if strictly following the words of the policy, the self-block prevents the "complete inactivity" criterion to be fulfilled; a self-block with reason "globale Wikipause" isn't really something which stops the inactivity. If you want to look at a very very very old precedent in favour of removing, see this and the then-wording of relevant policy there. --MF-W 18:08, 10 June 2013 (UTC)

Legobot@global

Please remove Legobot's global bot (not global apihighlimits) and local bot flags on cawiki, hewiki, itwiki, nlwiki, ptwiki, wuuwiki, eswiki, and huwiki (I don't have time nor inclination to find crats on all the wikis). These were issued while Legobot was working on the Wikidata migration, but I no longer have the time to maintain the code and it hasn't run for a few months now. --Legoktm (talk) 09:02, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

We cannot and will not remove flags where there are local 'crats, and I belive all thoses wikis have local 'crats. Snowolf How can I help? 09:55, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
I am unsure as to why, if the bot is ceasing operations, you're asking that the api-highlimit right be retained. Snowolf How can I help? 10:05, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
I believe the bot has multiple functions, and only the importing links to Wikidata requires writing to other wikis. Another function is importing data from other wikis to Wikidata, and thus both the Wikidata bot flag and the API flag should be retained. --Rschen7754 10:10, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
That makes a lot of sense, will wait for the user to comment to be sure before I remove the global bot flag tho. Snowolf How can I help? 10:43, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
Yes, my bot is still using the apihighlimits flag to import statements into Wikidata. The global bot flag was to remove links on various Wikipedia's, which it is no longer doing. Legoktm (talk) 15:48, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

Magister Mathematicae

A month ago I decided to leave spanish wikipedia [6]. I took a month for reflection upon many facts, problems faced by communities, how other wikis were being used to further harassment by trolls from eswiki with the support of those other communities, etc. I didn't want to take a rush decision, but I think this past month has been enough for me to see clearly the panorama .

I really believe wikimedia is dysfunctional at many levels, and I think it's wiser for me to use my time helping other projects.

I no longer have interest to deal with puerile sysops, uneducated editors, but mainly, trollish banned users who care not for the community but rather their lame "battlefield" and subvert wikimedia processes that should foster a good environment and turn them into weapons for their silly games.

My work, my time, is valuable enough so wasting it on an undeserving community was not an option for me. So I took a decision a month ago. And after a month of reflection I come here to confirm it.

I got tired of participating on a site that claims at face-value to cherish knowledge, but that instead is filled with petty politics and cliques.

I do not want to be associated with this wikimedia world. So please remove the following flags on my accounts.

  • Enwiki: Sysop
  • Commons: Sysop and checkuser.
  • eswikiquote: bureaucrat and sysop
  • eswikibooks: bureaucrat and sysop
  • eswikinews: bureaucrat and sysop
  • nahwiki: bureaucrat and sysop

and finally

  • metawiki: buraucrat, oversight, checkuser and sysop.

Thank you and the best wishes to all good editors, whoever they are. es:Magister Mathematicae 21:25, 20 June 2013 (UTC)

I shall add as a procedural comment that enwiki and metawiki have 'crats that are better suited to remove the sysop permission and once the 24h expire I or some other steward will notify them so they can act on it, while we'll remove everything else. As you know all to well, should you change your mind before the 24h, do let us know and we'll put the procedure on hold. Snowolf How can I help? 00:41, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
I also note that the request above does not include your rights on mxwikimedia, if that was an oversight, do let us know. Snowolf How can I help? 12:34, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
+ do you wish to stay an OTRS volunteer? If not, you should contact the OTRS admins. Trijnsteltalk 15:08, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
However, if I remember correctly, when allowing enwiki bureaucrats to desysop it was decided that steward can still perform self-requested removals. --MF-W 15:41, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
From en:WP:GRP:

According to their policy, Stewards should not use their global rights to perform tasks that could be performed by local users. In emergency situations where local users are unable or unavailable to act, stewards are asked to use their global rights to protect the best interests of Wikipedia.

While personally I'd love stewards to start interpreting policies like this more liberally (I mean, the profound annoyance of global renames is only getting fixed thanks to direct WMF intervention), a desysop's probably a bad place to start. — PinkAmpers&(Je vous invite à me parler) 21:00, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
You're quoting the wrong policy. Anyway, yes, enwiki allows stewards to act as local 'crat for the purpose of removing administrators, and even mandates the user of stewards instead of local 'crats in certain situations. I am simply suggesting that it's silly for us to remove it when no other rights have to be removed from there and when it takes half a minute for me or you to post on WP:BN, hence keeping the logs locally. This is not the case for Meta as far as I know, where no policy allows us to remove them. Snowolf How can I help? 21:04, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
Sad to hear :( --MF-W 22:29, 20 June 2013 (UTC)
I have noticed a few of our most experienced contributors deciding to walk away rather than spend their volunteer time having to handle or turn a blind eye to constant trolling, hounding, harassment and an underlying battlefield mentality in our communities. Magister Mathematicae, I would really appreciate it if you would consider sending a "resignation letter" or similar to summarize your thoughts to wikimedia-l so that the interested wider community might pay attention. Thanks -- (talk) 00:28, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
I would like to echo fae's request. I think that you likely carry a fair amount of en:institutional memory, and I think it might just be worthwhile to hear your broader thoughts on the current "Wiki-experience". - Jc37 (talk) 06:10, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
  • Done with obvious regret. Barras has removed this user's sysop flag here on meta and Addshore has done so on enwiki. I also note that as 'crats here have the ability to remove the 'crat flag, I should have left that to local 'crats, which I forgot about. Snowolf How can I help? 21:29, 21 June 2013 (UTC)

PICAWN@ar.wikinews

Hello. I was granted a three-month temporary admin status on 13 September, which is to expire soon. I was advised to request extension a few days before expiration, which I am doing, or to hold a local election (which is not feasible due to low activity on the project, see link to inactive discussion above). Thank you. --PICAWN (talk) 20:46, 10 December 2012 (UTC)

Done. 6 months this time. Expires on 13 April 2013. --Millosh (talk) 23:23, 11 December 2012 (UTC)

Correction: 13 December + 6 months = 13 June, not 13 April. --Millosh (talk) 04:05, 15 December 2012 (UTC)

Actually hang on. On further reading, I think I handled this incorrectly, please don't use the flag yet. I believe what you're seeking is to import articles from itwp, if so, we should have it set in the import sources, and give you the transwiki importer right rather than the importer right. Please wait a bit till I find MF-Warburg who actually knows these things unlike me. Sorry for the mess. Snowolf How can I help? 11:28, 7 June 2013 (UTC)
I changed this to transwiki importer rights; transwiki import is already enabled on it.wikt from it.wikipedia and several other projects. --MF-W 11:34, 7 June 2013 (UTC)

Rodrigo Tetsuo Argenton @ pt - WV/WB/WP/WN/WS br-WM (account creator)

Hello to all,

I'll have a series of lectures and workshops through the program Wikimedia Brazil in schools, and it is very likely to begin on Tuesday, the 28th., where we will create a lot of new accounts in various projects, as will be unrealistic to ask every time, I like to have the ability to do this without open a bug all times. Thank you. Rodrigo Tetsuo Argenton m 16:02, 26 May 2013 (UTC)

Do local projects know about your plans? Ruslik (talk) 16:54, 26 May 2013 (UTC)
We announced it a few months ago when the project was launched. Including on newspaper article about it... (ie. w:pt:Wikipédia:Esplanada/anúncios#Matéria e guia da Folha de São Paulo sobre a Wikipédia e escolas). I do not know if they are following, but as you can see, it reaches almost all communities, we can not give all the details separately, so all information is gathered in wiki of the Movement Wikimedia Brasil.
If you have fear of possibles reprisals of any community, I'm sure that will not happen, (maybe Wikipedia, but we will do not poke then tomorrow, and we can announce again...), at least to authorize Wikimedia Brasil. Rodrigo Tetsuo Argenton m 16:14, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
Isn't much easier to request a temporary lift of IP cap than have one person creating all the accounts? Béria Lima msg 16:36, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
You don't need this flag. You are sysop on brwikimedia wiki, which has SUL so you can create the accounts there and they can login on all Wikimedia projects. --Nemo 16:41, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
No Beria, because we will gonna have many activities, for example, tomorrow 3 workshops, in two different schools. And usually those who know the technical details are not the people we're dealing with.
If I create an SUL account, when they go to another projects they will have no problem to start to edit? And the process is the same? Is it just me log in with my account, and create another, and login again? I've never tested this, so I'm asking. And I still think that is better have the flag, cause with not, I will have to ask for them go through two wikis to start to edit, and this can be confuse.Rodrigo Tetsuo Argenton m 18:03, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
I just tested this. It depends on whether you create the accounts by letting the software send a random password via e-mail, or if you enter the password yourself. In the first case, the user needs to log in with the temporary password on the wiki where the account was created first to change it. --MF-W 18:15, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
Not liking this. Users should create their own accounts as such the lifting of the IP creation restriction should be the correct way to ago about this. Also, I've granted account creator rights several times for these requests and I never once saw it used, so I am very inclined to stop considering them and let it all be handled in the correct way, that is, bugzilla. I am also not encouraged by the user's vague ramblings of 'reprisals from communities'. I also note that local communities should be informed beforehand and with a little bit more than 2 day notice, and that we need an end-date in any case. Again tho, I feel this should be deferred to the the proper outlet for this, bugzilla and the lifting of the IP creation cap, if needed. Snowolf How can I help? 19:05, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
First my main work in Wikimedia Movement is give lectures/workshops, second I was guided by staffs to acquire this flag. Exactly because I know that I would have to ask many times to release via bugzilla, and if their speed to respond are the same then other requests, I'll have to wait years for them to do, which is not thinkable. Also, lectures, and workshops, especially in Brazil, the dates are fully floating. Because of that, I'll have to change several times the bugs dates, and sometimes from one day to the other, I can not be held hostage to the developers as well as I am a hostage of the dates of institutions. And the numbers are likely to grow, we will begin work in schools that have more than 300 teachers, and who knows how many thousands of students. So that's why I'm asking, and some communities already very accustomed to having people coming from workshops such as Wikiversity-pt. I do not know the reason to complicate things further in a situation where a volunteer is willing to help.Rodrigo Tetsuo Argenton m 22:26, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
Looks like local projects weren't notified about this request for permission.—Teles «Talk to me ˱@ L C S˲» 22:46, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
Ok, don't give the permission, and the workshop doesn't work... this is stupidity... Much bureaucracy instead of increasing the number of volunteers and facilitate beneficial actions, this is the movement that I want out. I'm just fulfilling the last things that what I committed. I will not get involved in politics if you do not want to give permission, I only ask that you take responsibility and send an email to the schools saying that you could not make it easier for the activity occurred because of technicalities, damaging the workshop to be held. Rodrigo Tetsuo Argenton m 01:37, 28 May 2013 (UTC)
It is not our fault. 'You' didn't request it to community.—Teles «Talk to me ˱@ L C S˲» 02:32, 28 May 2013 (UTC)
I will not do anything on Wikipedia tomorrow , but I will do on Wikinews, as they are not responding another things... And Wikiversidade is very used to receive this type of activities, focus of the talks today!... WB: here... Rodrigo Tetsuo Argenton m 05:13, 28 May 2013 (UTC)

I don't understand. Is this a request for removal of rights? Why is it in the removal section? PiRSquared17 (talk) 01:50, 28 May 2013 (UTC)

Someone killed the "miscellaneous" headline, surely by accident. --MF-W 02:22, 28 May 2013 (UTC)
Sorry, bad browser (I was in the Steam browser). Rodrigo Tetsuo Argenton m 05:13, 28 May 2013 (UTC)

Has this request become unimportant due to the event being over, or do you uphold it? --MF-W 22:49, 4 June 2013 (UTC)

I'm closing this request since the event is in the past and it had been identified that requesting to remove the account creation per ip cap through bugzilla is the better way to handle that. Amqui (talk) 16:05, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

Graham87@enwiki (import)

I would like to obtain the import right on the English Wikipedia, so I can restore some long-lost page history back to the Wikipedia database from my personal copy of the January 2003 database dump. My reasons for doing so are outlined in the above-linked discussion; it is not *strictly* about giving me the import right, but it is about allowing all admins to import page history from a hyperthetical read-only online copy of the 2003 database dumps (the latter action requires work from a Wikipedia sysadmin). However, it demonstrates that restoring long-lost page history is an uncontroversial action on the English Wikipedia. I could hold another discussion about the narrower question of whether *I* should be given the import right if necessary. Graham87 (talk) 06:30, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

So, you are planning to export pages from your local copy of MediaWiki to XML files and then to import them to enwiki? Ruslik (talk) 07:01, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
Based on bugzilla:34465#c7, I would say yes. Legoktm (talk) 07:06, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
Graham87 is probably the most experienced history import-merger we have (check his userpages and his bugzilla activity if you're unsure), I'm sure he'll do no mess. An exciting project. --Nemo 07:32, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
Thanks, Nemo! @Ruslik: yes, that's what I'm planning to do. Graham87 (talk) 08:09, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
I am not entirely sure that we should be granting a userright based on a year-old discussion. Snowolf How can I help? 09:56, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
Indeed, just to do it the "proper" way, I guess you should open a discussion on enwiki about "you" being given the import right. Amqui (talk) 16:03, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
Alright; I've started the discussion at en:Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)#Request for import user right. Graham87 (talk) 03:21, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
On hold until the 20th of June. Snowolf How can I help? 15:16, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
There being no objections, this is done without expiry date. I presume however that this project will at some point of time (maybe in the far future) be done, when the right can be removed again, in consulation with the user. --MF-W 22:25, 20 June 2013 (UTC)
Thank you very much; I will use this right wisely! As I mentioned in point 2 of my list of possible concerns in the linked village pump discussion, the import right has other benefits beyond this history-fixing project, so I would prefer to keep it for as long as I am an administrator actively working in importing. If I no longer need it, I will let the stewards know. Graham87 (talk) 02:01, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
