Administrator access

bennylin@jvwikt

I'm already long-term sysops in multiple projects such as id.wikipedia and id.wikt. I'm requesting a permanent adminship in jv.wikt. If you're just gonna give a temp admin, then don't bother. Bennylin 11:38, 19 October 2020 (UTC)Steward note: This is also a request for int. adminship. --Martin Urbanec (talk) 12:19, 30 October 2020 (UTC)

On hold until 2020-10-22 @Bennylin: Per the guidelines, 5+ voters who are an active participant of the project are necessary for a permanent adminship to be granted. Right now, in your case, only two persons with more than 50 edits at jv.wikt voted. Per the guidelines, the adminship will be temporary (possibly for a year rather than 6 months, given you are apparently trusted at several projects), unless that changes before the voting finishes. --Martin Urbanec (talk) 19:53, 19 October 2020 (UTC)
Apropo, is this a request only for interface adminship? Or do you want both flags (sysop and interface-admin)? --Martin Urbanec (talk) 19:57, 19 October 2020 (UTC)
Both flags please. Bennylin 00:18, 29 October 2020 (UTC)
@Bennylin: I granted one year temporary sysop for now. Please enable 2FA before I can give you interface adminship. Best, --Martin Urbanec (talk) 12:28, 30 October 2020 (UTC)
Bennylin, still waiting. --Base (talk) 11:32, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
Done For adminship, Not done for interface adminship - still no 2FA enabled. I also revoked your idwiki interface adminship per WMF policy. --Martin Urbanec (talk) 15:20, 8 November 2020 (UTC)

(reopen case) I've enabled 2FA. Can you grant me interface admin both in jv.wikt and id.wiki back please? Thanks. Bennylin 15:10, 1 February 2021 (UTC)

@Bennylin: Done Granted for 1 year to expire on 2021-10-30. same duration as your adminship To prolong your (interface) adminship, please start another election a few days before your temporary access expires, and after a week post your request again to this page. User Anass_Sedrati@ary

Hello, I would like to extend my administrator status on the Moroccan Arabic Wikipedia (expired on October 31,2020). The activity is pretty low on the Wiki currently, and I would like to support the only active administrator (Reda) in administrative duties. There are 3 supportive votes for this application, including the only current active administrator. Thank you in advance for the support. Yasanto Lase@niawikipedia

I want to be an admin on Wikipedia Nias to advance the Nias language in the wiki project.Yasanto Lase (talk) 07:59, 8 February 2021 (UTC)

What reason was given in the opposing vote? Ruslik (talk) 21:05, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
he voted against because he thought I had said on the past that I was the only one who wrote well in Nias language, which is not true. Yasanto Lase (talk) 09:03, 11 February 2021 (UTC)

Frank Geerlings, Caribiana & Ciell @pap.wikipedia

We've been working on the Papiamentu wiki for the past three months, and Frank and Caribiana are requesting to take over as admins on the pap.wikipedia. I would be happy to help and show them around the admin interface, so it would be helpful if I could get another three months of temporary rights on this wiki as well. We discussed this among the two working groups we have and nobody objects, neither in the calls we had nor in the Portal di komunidat (Village Pump) linked above. Hi Martin Urbanec, thank you for handling our request. Caribiana and Frank both speak the language and would be the admins that will stay on this wiki, per community support in the local Village Pump. Could they maybe get the right for undetermined/'indefinite'? Ciell (talk) 23:55, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
@Ciell Not now, sadly. I assigned six months per this guideline. I hope it makes sense. Best, Martin Urbanec (talk) 23:57, 25 February 2021 (UTC)

Interface administrator access

Đức Anh@vi.wikibooks

I am an administrator in Vietnamese Wikibooks. I need interface administrator for 1-2 week to fix some bugs. I need urgently. Đức Anh (talk) 08:10, 11 February 2021 (UTC)

@Đức Anh: Not a steward, but you will need a link to discussion for interface admin, plus 2FA. Leaderboard (talk) 12:50, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
Actually if they need it very urgently, and there isn't any time for discussion (i.e. time sensitive), they can post on SRM for a steward / GS to implement. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 13:09, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
@Đức Anh: As said above. There is currently no community discussion linked. We can't just promote people, we need to be sure the community is actually fine with the assignment. If you need just a few fixes done, feel free to request it at SRM, where it can be done by a steward or global sysop. Best, --Martin Urbanec (talk) 15:44, 13 February 2021 (UTC)

Remove global sysopship for ~riley

Today I looked at the activity of all global sysops in the cross-wiki activity tool. Riley's global sysop right should be removed. According to the inactivity rule on global sysop policy, global sysops can be directly removed if they don't use their rights for at least 6 months, except for projects where they are local administrators. According to the cross-wiki activity tool (see), the last log is at en.wikiversity see on June 19, 2020. Riley is local admin on commons, enwikiquote, meta; also enwikipedia and these wikis aren’t include for global sysop wiki set. The list below contains the last 5 wikis riley was active per cross-wiki activity tool. As far as I use this tool is correct generally, but it's worth checking again by stewards. Regards. --Uncitoyentalk 13:29, 2 February 2021 (UTC)

@Uncitoyen Might want to check for GIE too. As GIE is also 6 months inactivity, sad to see the rights removed but these are high risk privs. Thanks for checking. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 17:17, 3 February 2021 (UTC)
@Camouflaged Mirage: It says that if they don't make edits about the interface for at least 6 months, their rights can be removed. Probably the expression mentioned for these edits are .js .css .json. These generally provide the interface of the site and users. I couldn't see such edits on commons, en.wikiquote, meta, en.wikipedia and wikidata. As the stewards know this situation better, they can handle this issue if possible. If possible, I can ping @Base: is active for permissions requests recently. --Uncitoyentalk 19:16, 3 February 2021 (UTC)
Just want to mention that I have seen the ping, but I am a bit busy right now and this one requires spending some time checking so cannot promise I can check this in timely manner.. --Base (talk) 16:26, 4 February 2021 (UTC)
Why was not ~riley notified about this thread? Ruslik (talk) 20:45, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
@Ruslik0: Is it for global sysop or global interface-admin? The last 2 months, we've seen some global sysops removed by stewards out of notified are inactive over the past 6 months. --Uncitoyentalk 20:50, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
I mean we don't have notification requirement as far as I know for inactivity for GS, inactivity section just put "Global sysops will automatically lose their access if in six months they've not used the respective rights outside of wikis on which they have local rights." Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 10:53, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
If the rights are removed without discussion then there is no need to notify. However if you start discussing a user then it is considered a common courtesy to notify the user. Ruslik (talk) 13:16, 6 February 2021 (UTC)

Which means his last action was June 19th, 2020, so that's past the 6 month mark we have in the global sysop policy. I am not entirely sure about the notification requirement here, as I have had GS in the past and lost it automatically and only got the notification of the removal itself. --Wiki13 (talk) 21:35, 5 February 2021 (UTC)

@~riley: Since it doesn't appear they have been notified yet. -- Amanda (aka DQ) 10:49, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
Per my comment above there isn't a need to notify as far as I can see, but good to ping too. Doesn't the application ping the users for such issues? Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 10:55, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
@Camouflaged Mirage: Yes, usually an application pings the users (if compiled correctly), it happened a few days ago with me :) --Superpes15 (talk) 11:00, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
In fact, even when you create this request, the notification goes away. Because on wiki projects, when I write users' names in deletion, block requests (seems like [[User:]], they reply immediately. As far as I have seen in the archives, there aren't notified for inactive global sysops. --Uncitoyentalk 11:10, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
If the policy doesn't explicitly say it requires notification, it should not be required - and it leads to pointless actions just to keep the rights. --Rschen7754 19:39, 6 February 2021 (UTC)

Done I removed riley's access based on the "crossactivity" tool and the outputs published above. I failed to find any sysop access outside of wikis where riley holds local access. Removed as per policy. Sincerely, --Martin Urbanec (talk) 11:58, 9 February 2021 (UTC)

Today I checked all global interface editors except for WMF staffs. Here was given this right for 2 years for Krenair. Special:PermanentLink/19982579#Renew_global_interface_editor_for_Krenair. It seems to be the last interface edits on 13 June 2020 according to the cross activity and global contributions tools. commons:Special:Diff/425993359 It looks like it hasn't done any interface edits much more than last 6 months. (It is better checked again by stewards) The GIE states that rights who haven't done any interface edits for at last 6 months will be removed by their stewards. I wanted to present this situation for the stewards. Regards. --Uncitoyentalk 08:55, 11 February 2021 (UTC)

@Ilnur efende: Hello. As @ZabeMath said, the account is a system user used by the AbuseFilter. It gets sysop permissions automatically. Best regards. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 11:07, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
@MarcoAurelio: The user would only be resysopped if 1) "block" is enabled on ttwiki, or 2) we'll need the account to perform some maintenance. However, 1) doesn't seem to be likely (given that there are no filters on ttwiki), and there are no maintenance tasks to do at this time. Miscellaneous requests

ZhuofanWu@gan.wikipedia

@Base:I`m very sorry for misunderstanding the policy. What I want to import is a lot of modules and templates.I think that I only need transwiki import access to do my work.Zhuofan WuCien años de soledad 10:11, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
ZhuofanWu, no problem, in fact there is no policy as such, but XML import is a very sensitive permission as one is dealing with raw modifiable data there. Transwiki import is much safer to use, so we lean towards giving it instead whenever possible. Currently ganwiki is set up to support transwiki import from Wikimedia incubator only. I assume you have a few other import sources in mind (zhwiki? enwiki? meta? etc.). You need to decide on those by a vote and follow the instructions at Requesting wiki configuration changes. Here is an example ticket for requesting such change: phab:T260716. --Base (talk) 10:42, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
Requesting wiki configuration changes in ganwiki will be a difficult task due to lack of active users.Anyway, thanks a lot,Base.Zhuofan WuCien años de soledad 02:29, 2 February 2021 (UTC)
ZhuofanWu, it should not be difficult, basically the same principle as with permission votes applies — if no one has a good reason to oppose then it is approved, even if no one supports too. Import sources in particular are a very trivial change. --Base (talk) 07:17, 2 February 2021 (UTC)

Rosičák (talk) 15:03, 5 February 2021 (UTC)

@Rosičák: what right are you request for? --Wim b 16:46, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
@Wim b: That request was for administrator rights on a local project. It should have been evaluated a long time ago. The local bureaucrat sabotages the allocation of rights over warnings. So I turned to a higher instance. I don't see another solution--Rosičák (talk) 18:47, 5 February 2021 (UTC).
Not done: also, does a request from 2 years ago make sense? if it matters, open a new vote and submit the request again. --Wim b 16:54, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
@Wim b: How should colleague Dudík proceed to be elected when colleague Danny_B refuses to close the application? Should she kneel before him?--Rosičák (talk) 18:47, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
@Rosičák: absolutely not, he should certainly not pray to him on his knees, but I don't understand how a community can wait 2 years. You could have asked for help 2 years ago earlier in my opinion, or open a problematic procedure for Danny_B if you thought it was right. I don't know how else to help you, and I would like to. --Wim b 19:34, 5 February 2021 (UTC)

Cs.wikisource have small community, some people edits only once per many weeks. There is also problem, there are only two sys ops, one editet last in may and second makes one sysop action every few months and there are dozens of pages for deletions. And Some requests for other sys actions. New voting would take next few months... --JAn (talk) 21:31, 5 February 2021 (UTC)

Helo, here is the list of the pages for delete (9 categories and 47 pages) and some waiting more than one year. Local bureucrat archived the question from Rosičák without answer. It`s weird, I mean. I support JAn (bureucrat on cs:wiki) like sysop on cs:wikisource Have a nice day--F.ponizil (talk) 23:25, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
@F.ponizil It's not about JAn personally. Any request seeking promotion after two years would be declined. Please let @JAn Dudík start a new RfA, wait a week or two, and ask us again, and/or start a problematic procedure for the bureaucrat, if the community wishes so.
Note: I would've helped cswikisource's speedy category if cswikisource allowed global sysops. I proposed that some time ago, and it was declined, even that the admins are mostly inactive.
Sincerely, Martin Urbanec (talk) 00:19, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
OK, if this is opinion of more than one steward... I'll make new RfA. JAn Dudík (talk) 10:16, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
