Như Gây Mê@cebwiki

hi, I want "sysops admin" permission in the Cebuano Wiki. Recently, I saw some vandalism but it seems that the sysops admins there are not active. Even requests to move or merge pages did not see a response from a sysops admin.

Additional: A bot of sysops admin accidentally duplicated pages leading to duplicates, I want sysops admin permissions to easily delete duplicate posts. Halley luv Filipino ❤ 07:58, 30 December 2023 (UTC)
@Như Gây Mê: Note ceb.wikipedia currently has a bureaucrat, Bentong Isles. Did you please try to get in touch with the bureaucrat (since they're supposed to process adminship requests)?  On hold for now. Thanks, --Martin Urbanec (talk) 21:27, 1 January 2024 (UTC)
I already contacted, it seems to me that this bureaucrat has not had any revision activities in the past 2 years (I'm not sure). Halley luv Filipino ❤ 22:11, 1 January 2024 (UTC)

Гусейнага@tly.wikipedia

Hello! Please, confirm my local admin status. The voting is already done. Thank you! Гусейнага (talk) 17:29, 7 January 2024 (UTC)

Dear @Гусейнага, I wanted to discuss local voting with you. It seems that there may be a need to consider overriding it temporarily. I kindly request your input and thoughts on the matter. Please join the discussion at your earliest convenience. Sincerely, Patriot Kor (talk) 15:42, 8 January 2024 (UTC)
You don't have to tag me everywhere, I'll see your question on your talk page sooner or later. I answered you. Гусейнага (talk) 10:26, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
Dear user, If the tag bothers you, I won't do it again. To ensure transparency in the current vote, it is important that you actively engage in open discussions and you must be open to all discussions. Sincerely, Patriot Kor (talk) 11:31, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
Yep, there's surely something weird in this election. All of votes are made by inactive users (or by users with low experience). @Гусейнага: Could you please explain if and how have you advertise your election (via wiki? via social or private contact?)? Many thanks --Superpes15 (talk) 09:02, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
Hello, dear @Superpes15. I don't know why there is such activity. I didn’t specifically invite anyone to vote for me. I previously saw some of those who voted in translatewiki, where I worked for a long time, and I saw one voter in the Talysh Wikipedia Incubator. Гусейнага (talk) 10:37, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
Done Granted for 3 months to expire on 2024-04-11. To prolong your (interface) adminship, please start another election a few days before your temporary access expires, and after a week post your request again to this page. Thanks.
@Гусейнага: Thanks for your reply! Per my practice, I won't consider any vote, so - since there are no oppositions - I granted the flag for 3 months! Thanks --Superpes15 (talk) 16:27, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
@Superpes15 hello. There's a discussion on @Patriot Kor's discussion page on tlywiki. Here's a quote from Гусейнага's comment there:

And in principle, what do you care about the Talysh Wikipedia? Mind your own business on your Wikipedia.

I believe this harshly violates Wikimedia's core prinsiples Toghrul R (talk) 16:55, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
@Toghrul R: While I don't like comment like the one you mentioned, since we all are here for the same goal, we should evaluate only the consensus in the request for adminship. Behavioral or character issues had to be analyzed locally. We, as stewards, can only evaluate the local consensus to grant the flag, and the request ended without any opposition on the local page, so the flag was granted. Note that, as explained in the instructions above, "this page is not the place for any discussions or votes" so, if there were problems, you should have discussed them on the application page before the flag. Thanks for your understanding Superpes15 (talk) 09:42, 12 January 2024 (UTC)
@Superpes15 The discussion was going on the talk page of Patriot Kor regarding the mass-invitation/canvassing/sockpuppeting situation there. The election was started just a week before the application, while I realized there was something fishy behind it. Someone nominated him/her, and he applied for the right here? Sounds unreasonable to me.
I understand and highly respect your take on this, as we should proceed in relevant pages. I will apply for the discussion for a more detailed analysis. Thank you! Toghrul R (talk) 09:57, 12 January 2024 (UTC)
@Toghrul R: Tbh I looked at the issue and I didn't see any sockpuppeting suspicion (as far as I'm concerned, good faith prevails over everything and it becomes dangerous to evaluate an election on the good faith of the procedure, without any evidence, because it can reduce the spirit of collaboration and create friction between users) and, as I said, I didn't count any supporters (so the election ended with 0 support for me). When there are possibilities of canvassing, often done in good faith, I don't consider the votes that support the candidate. If you had issue with this election, why didn't you oppose the election in the last hours, on the relevant page, with a valid reason? Also, Patriot Kor themselves said: "I have no concerns regarding your candidacy", so I don't see any issue! You can discuss the election on another talk page, but the vote won't change, there are no opposition and more than a week passed, so the flag can be granted! And yes, the procedure is the one you mentioned. Just read the instructions above: Asking for the flag locally on the relevant page, waiting for a week before posting here, if there are no motivated oppositions and the user is active on the project the flag will be granted. Thanks Superpes15 (talk) 10:13, 12 January 2024 (UTC)
@Superpes15 I understand. I wrote to Patriot Kor to take a look at the nomination on Jan 8; however, the person had already applied for the right here on Jan. 7, so it made the discussion/opposition impossible. Here, Patriot Kor mentioned that there was an ongoing discussion on this topic while nationalistic statements were being made @tlywiki. I really don't want to expand the discussion and take it to the other dimensions here; I just want to prompt equal rights on wiki without discrimination. As it should be. Anyways, I will write about this more on RfC. Cheers, – Toghrul R (talk) 10:30, 12 January 2024 (UTC)
Dear @Superpes15, thank you for the opportunity and trust to contribute to the Wiki project. Гусейнага (talk) 17:47, 11 January 2024 (UTC)

ԱշոտՏՆՂ@hy.wikipedia.org

I'm requesting recovery of sysop rights of User ԱշոտՏՆՂ, which requested removal of his rights few days ago as a result of new wave of a sysop harassment campaign on Armenian Wikipedia by a problematic sockpuppet of indef blocked user (which you may here again from soon). User ԱշոտՏՆՂ had an absolutely clean and strong history as adminship. Not only he was our main technical admin in past years, but he is also operator of admin bot and it's important for sustainability of Armenian Wikipedia and preservation of common sense that he has admins rights. Xelgen (talk) 20:58, 10 January 2024 (UTC)

My first pass at this is decline, resignations are not cancellable because someone else wants to cancel it after the fact. A standard request at w:hy:Վիքիպեդիա:Ադմինիստրատորի իրավունքների դիմումներ should be completed for promotion. Will see if other stewards want to comment here. — xaosflux Talk 21:16, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for prompt response, I realize this is very unusual request, but as Admin on hy:WP for nearly 15 years, I'd say this wasn't a resignation in it's free will state, but rather reaction of playing the system and harrasment here, going back years in past which makes it impossible to describe in details here.Xelgen (talk) 21:50, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
@Xelgen: I fully understand the issue, but, as explained here, we don't reassigning the flag after the removal, unless it's very-short temporary removals like restoring 2FA etc. Please open a new local request and ask for the flag here again after a week. Thanks for your understanding! --Superpes15 (talk) 16:36, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
։ Thanks, I understand your perspective and position. I'll try to put things back on more usual tracks. Meanwhile please hold-on with other similar "resignation" requests potentially coming your way. Xelgen (talk) 07:21, 12 January 2024 (UTC)
@Xelgen: Yep, thanks for your understanding, unfortunately we can't know the true reason behind any request. As a matter of practice, we put every resignation request on hold for 24 hours, over the years we have noticed that this is enough time in case there is a change of mind. Surely, if someone had asked to prolong the wait with a valid reason, we would have done it for a few more days! Thanks again :) Superpes15 (talk) 09:47, 12 January 2024 (UTC)

AleElDestructor@aywiktionary

Salutations, I would like to request adminship for the Aymara dictionary. It has been very inactive and in decline. I am a relatively new user, and it's my first time editing with wiki, but I am very passionate about the language, and many people are too, and I want to help to make this page a reliable resource for those wanting to learn the language. That would be about me, about the page itself, it has many things that need to be polished, reformed and revived, there are a lot of missing words, meanings and translations. I come to ask for adminship via the link provided in the main page of the Aymara dictionary. I hope my solicitude is well understood and recieved, my best regards.

Hi @AleElDestructor: and thanks for volunteering and for your willingness to help! I'd suggest you gain experience first of all, you said there are so many things to fix, such as words, meanings, translations or reforming policies. All this can be done without the administrator flag, which is a purely technical function, and should be assigned to very experienced users who are able to use it! In the meantime you can help out in so many areas :) I suggest you apply again in some months, after having gained much more experience on the project, in the meantime, if you need administrative actions (such as block or protection/deletion), you can ask for help by global sysops or stewards! Thanks for your understanding and I hope you don't get discouraged :) --Superpes15 (talk) 11:22, 17 January 2024 (UTC)

Umarxon III@uzwikiquote

Hi, everyone! There is no administrators in Uzbek Wikiquote and a lot of work which should be done by administrators. For this reason, please, promote me to administrator status. Umarxon III (talk) 06:06, 17 January 2024 (UTC).

@Umarxon III: I was prone to mark this as not done, since local request started 3 days ago, and you should follow the instructions and wait a week before posting here, but then I remembered this deflag for abusive blocks. What has changed since then? Also I see 6 votes on uzwikiquote, but the project has not active user (except you) and none of the voters have ever been active there, so have you advertise your election to uzwiki users? have you also advertise it also to the user who asked for your removal, or have you chosen the targets? Thanks! --Superpes15 (talk) 11:32, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
@Superpes15: okay, let's wait a week. As for the deflag, since then more than 8 months have passed. During this period of time, I tried to be an exemplary user. Created hundreds of articles, three of them received statuses: 1, 2, 3. For my active work on uzwiki, I received the status of a rollbacker and a patroller. I'm going to increase the number of articles and improve existing ones on uzwikiquote. As for the "advertising", I did not invite anyone to vote. The user who asked for my “removal”, in my opinion, was wrong then and now supports me. Thanks. Umarxon III (talk) 15:15, 17 January 2024 (UTC).
@Umarxon III: Many thanks for your explanation. I'd prefer to hear a reply like "I've learned by the mistake", because it's difficult that a community consensus is wrong in a sensible matter like that one (I read about some abusive blocks), but if this is your opinion, well, it's fine! Just hope you won't have the same issue again. I still don't understand how some users supported you, when they never made a single edit on uzwikiquote, this looks strange to me. I won't consider any vote in deciding the request (and this is not a problem, is more problematic a canvassing than an election without any vote, just to be clear, we usually start with a 3-months flag at the first request with a few votes, and even if there are no votes). Let's wait until 21 January (and thanks for volunteering) :) Superpes15 (talk) 15:22, 17 January 2024 (UTC)

The cases are politically motivated abuse of adminship and harrasment aganist Taylor 49. The request was made on Nowember 25th. Following our rules, the request will be submitted after two weeks:so on December 9th.--Fenikals (talk) 12:07, 7 December 2023 (UTC)
On hold So let's wait another day per your policy before proceeding! Let me say a personal thought: if the request is motivated with harrasments or abuses on wiki (I saw something on eowikt, even if this is another project, with the same involved users), it's fine, but I think that no one should be judged for a political motivation on wiki (obviously I am not referring to the case in question which concerns politically motivated abuse). Here we are all users, and we should evaluate our work on wiki stuff, and tbh I don't like to see external social-media links on a request for a deflag. If someone is a political POV-pusher, just link the edits, there's no need to highlight a person's political beliefs. Thanks --Superpes15 (talk) 13:39, 8 December 2023 (UTC)
A small note that will help you understand the reasons and context of what is happening. A few months ago, Fenikals wrote a denunciation of me to Global Voices [3], an international journalistic project in which I take part as a translator. He said that I had the wrong views on events in Ukraine, and therefore I should be excluded from the project. The administration of this liberal project, which clearly and consistently supports the position of the Ukrainian government, nevertheless responded that political views are a personal matter of the participant, and expulsion can only follow for violating the rules - and since I did not break any rules, I will not be expelled.
After that, he regularly sent me spam via Telegram (I don’t know where he found my account), in which he demanded to explain my political position, threatened me with Western sanctions, FSB reprisals, or simply asked strange questions that cast doubt on his adequacy.
Apparently, without waiting for the promised reprisals against me, he began an attack against me in all wiki projects. He openly cited my political views as the reason why I should be revoked as an administrator (the first link leads to my Facebook page [4]). He made similar statements on Wikinews, Wiktionary, and perhaps elsewhere.
Realizing that it would not be easy to remove a person who has been working flawlessly on Wikipedia, Wikimedia, Wiktionary, Wikinews and other projects for 15 years, and has never been accused of political propaganda or abuse of administrator rights, he mobilized users who were also exclusively interested in my political issues to vote.
Besides him, the main participants in this persecution were the open xenophobe Goren, who had previously attacked me (and others) on Telegram (his typical statements: “he’s just a nasty Russian” [5] (about me), “I’m pissing on your face, nasty Russian” [6] – in Esperanto "rusaĉo" is like "nigger" about the Russians) and politically motivated and psychologically unstable Taylor79, who was removed from Wiktionary as a Wiktionary Administrator several years ago by the stewards due to his endless conflicts with members, massive edits and deletions that turned Wiktionary into his personal playground. Having lost his administrator status, he demanded that the Esperanto-Wiktionary be completely eliminated.
So far they have not provided a single (!) evidence that I abused administrator rights. A number of participants paid attention to this, but fanatics and xenophobes are not interested in the rules. Thus, we are talking about political persecution organized by a bunch of fanatics and xenophobes. For your information. RG72 (talk) 14:49, 9 December 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for the clarification. I would like to understand also if there is some clear policy with requirement, I saw some vote (supporting the deflag) made by users who were inactive for years. Anyway, we should evaluate the consensus, even if the whole issue is a bit weird imho Superpes15 (talk) 22:52, 9 December 2023 (UTC)
There are no rules about users activity in Esperanto Wikipedia.--Fenikals (talk) 08:00, 10 December 2023 (UTC)

Please see above how RG72 cannot stop harassing and insulting me:
  • RG72 persists deliberately using male pronouns despite well knowing that I am not male
  • politically motivated and psychologically unstable Taylor79
    unacceptable personal attack
  • turned Wiktionary into his personal playground
wrong pronoun and false accusation, note that RG72 in turn turned eo wikinews into eir personal bolshevistic playgound (example, example)
  • he demanded that the Esperanto-Wiktionary be completely eliminated
wrong pronoun and false accusation, see phab:T283143
When processing this request, please close also eowikt.
Taylor 49 (talk) 18:20, 10 December 2023 (UTC)
I apologize for this chaos, but this is how Tylor79 works - his thoughts go in circles all the time and consist in the fact that everyone around him is attacking, blaming, persecuting him.
I explained to him many times that there is no third gender in Esperanto, and even gave him a reference to classical grammar, which explicitly states: “When talking about a person whose gender is unknown or when talking in general about a person of uncertain gender, “he” is traditionally used" [7]. In 2021, the Esperanto Academy officially refused to recognize neutral pronouns and stated that at least for the next 10 years this issue would not even be considered [8]. However, Taylor79 stubbornly demands that he be called some kind of made-up words, and everyone who does not want violating language norms for the sake of his whims accuses him of persecution and insults.
Accusations of “Bolshevik propaganda” clearly demonstrate his psychological state and level of literacy. The first article is an interview with a Siberian historian, a veteran of the special services, who talks about how terrorist attacks (airplane hijackings, hostage-taking, etc.) were prevented in the Tyumen region. The second publication is a report on the fate of Ukrainian refugees and how they are starting a new life in Siberia. Only a person who does not understand the meaning of either the word “Bolshevik” or the word “propaganda” can call this “Bolshevik propaganda.” And this is a man who was an administrator of Wiktionary (fortunately deprived of this status by the stewards) and continues to make massive edits to it.
As for Taylor's tantrums, I'll just give a few examples of his reaction to comments from other Wiktionary editors: "In Russia, people with different opinions always face not only blocking, but most often also prison, torture and murder. I'm not blocking you only because I am not as prone to violence as you are, but I leave this completely spoiled discussion" [9]; “Please calm down and stop attacking me (your president’s aggressiveness is more than enough, isn’t it?)” [10], “Please stop telling me as if you are a KGB or NKVD employee, and I am your prisoner” [11] etc etc.
Once again I apologize. The Esperanto community is very tolerant of strange people, sometimes even too tolerant. A month ago, I put forward my candidacy as Wiktionary administrator, many supported me and, apparently, this provoked a new attack of aggression from Taylor79. I hope this goes away. RG72 (talk) 10:21, 11 December 2023 (UTC)
5 hours before applying for adminship, you made a rude threat on my talk page. You applied for adminship for a special purpose: banning the "ideological enemy" of yours. You clearly stated that you intend to abuse the rights you were asking for. The long text above by RG72 is just a brutally hard evidence of how RG72 thinks, "works", and acts. Taylor 49 (talk) 15:06, 11 December 2023 (UTC)
An explanation for those who do not know the context and do not read Esperanto. As I said, Taylor79 removed all translations from a number of Wiktionary articles I wrote. When I asked him to restore them, he first stated that those who needed them could find them... in the history of the relevant articles. After I explained that this was completely absurd, he moved them to other articles, but since he eliminated or renamed almost all the templates in Wiktionary, many translations lost their language designations and became labeled as "unknown language codes." I repeatedly reminded him to fix the problem he created, but to no avail.
Here is a literal translation of my “rude remark” that Taylor79 complains about: “When will you clean up the consequences of your damage? There are still 16 “unknown” language codes in the article “edzo”, a consequence of your vandalism. Same in other articles. You yourself will you eliminate the consequences of your vandalism or will someone else have to do it? Do you understand that vandalism is punishable by blocking?"
And yes, if vandalism is an ideology, then vandals are my “ideological enemies” with whom I will always fight, no matter as an ordinary user or administrator. I hope the stewards will take part in this “ideological struggle”. RG72 (talk) 15:40, 11 December 2023 (UTC)
On Esperanto wiktionary only lemmas in Esperanto are supposed to have translations, like on Swedish wiktionary only lemmas in Swedish are supposed to have translations. Again, RG72's complaints are rude (plus deliberately using male pronouns ...) and lack substance. Also, for those "who do not know the context": the Esperanto wiktionary was desperately broken back in 2017. No category structure, no templates, no definitions, just pirated stuff. Taylor 49 (talk) 17:38, 11 December 2023 (UTC)
Please note that we cannot discuss the request on its merits here, the only thing we can do is evaluate the local consensus. This page is reserved for the request to stewards and it's not a place for discussions. It's not permitted to discuss on this service page, thank you for your understanding! --Superpes15 (talk) 09:03, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
Done. There is community consensus to remove, with 10 in support of removal and 5 opposed (66%). The threshold provided by local policy is 50%, so I have removed RG72 as an administrator on eowiki. Regards, Vermont (🐿️🏳️‍🌈) 02:31, 3 January 2024 (UTC)

I think maybe the bureaucrat is his friend, I think maybe this is sabotage. Special ignoring. What should the Russian Wikinews community do? I wrote to the bureaucrat on July 10, 2023 n:ru:Обсуждение_участника:Artem_Korzhimanov#Викиновости:Снятие_статуса#DonSimon_(#_3). Erokhin (talk) 20:50, 3 January 2024 (UTC)
@Erokhin: Local bureaucrats cannot remove sysop flag (this can only be done on a small group of big wikis) and only stewards are able to do so. Why didn't you write here earlier? We cannot evaluate old requests, generally even after a month and a half we ask to obtain a new local consensus again, since the current one may not reflect the previous one. After 6 months I'd say that it's practically mandatory to go through a local procedure again before asking for the deflag here. Thanks for your understanding. Various users @ nowikimedia

Hello, I am a representative of Wikimedia Norge, doing some "housekeeping" on our chapter wiki. We would like to remove the admin and bureaucrat access for the following users, most of whom are former trustees or employees, or community members with no recent activity on that wiki.

Thanks! Jon Harald Søby (WMNO) (talk) 17:38, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

@Jon Harald Søby (WMNO) Done for most except Astrild Carlsen (WMNO) (there is no such account) and H@r@ld (Special:UserRights insists that entering H@r@ld@nowikimedia refers to an user called H at the r project. Filling a Phabricator ticket... Martin Urbanec (talk) 18:53, 15 January 2024 (UTC)
Comment Comment I'm guessing they meant to type "Astrid Carlsen (WMNO)" which is an account that has sysop rights on nowikimedia. EPIC (talk) 18:56, 15 January 2024 (UTC)
Yes, indeed. I think my fingers and/or my brain made a mix of the female name "Astrid" and the male name "Arild" when typing. "Astrid Carlsen (WMNO)" is the account I meant. Jon Harald Søby (WMNO) (talk) 08:58, 16 January 2024 (UTC)

Hi @TheAafi:, this sysop seems to be active. Why don't you create a precise local policy? This request seems a bit difficult to me, because it's true that there is a certain consensus, but I see actions from the admins reported both in the last months of the 2023 and (for this user) also in 2024, so they're technically active and they don't even fall under the AAR. What is your inactivity threshold and how did you consider the inactivity of the admins? Just want to understand better! Thanks :) --Superpes15 (talk) 14:50, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
@Superpes15: I positively take your concerns. What concerns the local community is the inactive involvement of the user in administrative areas. I do see their recent logs (more recent) although these don't appeal me. For example, deleting an article and then restoring it, one single log of protection after more than one and half a year; the last was on 31 October 2021 and more recent is on 20 December 2023. Last block log is from 2012. This is to say the user has entirely three (one protect, one delete and one restore) administrative actions in 2023. I do not see a precise procedural policy (which discusses administrative involvement) per se and would initiate a discussion likewise on the Village pump. ─ The Aafī (talk) 15:46, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
I have initiated a discussion right away here. ─ The Aafī (talk) 16:01, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
Just waiting for its result (so we have clear inactivity parameters) and deciding if proceed with the requests above :) Superpes15 (talk) 16:03, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
@Superpes15: I should have an update about the inactivity parameters on January 28 after 15:58 UTC. ─ The Aafī (talk) 05:57, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
@Superpes15: There is a consensus that if an admin passes either or all of the three criterias, they will be desysoped. 1: No edits and no logs during last six months. 2: Have less than 20 administrative logs during last six months and 3: Have less than 100 edits in the last six months. Best regards, ─ The Aafī (talk) 17:32, 28 January 2024 (UTC)
Thanks @TheAafi:! About the 3 requests above, are the requests for desysop still valid, thanks? Superpes15 (talk) 17:39, 28 January 2024 (UTC)
per the requirements, yes. ─ The Aafī (talk) 17:40, 28 January 2024 (UTC)

Done @TheAafi: Just to confirm that I processed the requests, mainly because you reach a consensus for the deflag. To apply the new policy without considering the vote, instead, I'd have asked you to notify affected users of the new policy and wait for feedback, also to guarantee the correctness of the procedure! Thanks for your assistance :) --Superpes15 (talk) 00:58, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
@Superpes15: Thanks. Interestingly, this specific user has voted in favour of the policy and is aware. I will drop them individual notes of the removal. ─ The Aafī (talk) 01:54, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
