The MinT test instance recently supported the selection of a specific translation model (T338608).
In the UI there are a couple of aspects that may be worth adjusting:
- Currently, changing the source language does not trigger a recalculation of the available languages. So depending on the selected language, the list of models shown may be wrong. For example, selecting initially the English -> Catalan pair shows "Softcatalà" as an option. However, changing the source language to "Hindi" keeps the "Softcatalà" option despite Hindi->Catalan not being supported by this model. the issue occurs both when selecting the source language manually and when the selection occurs automatically after pasting text in a different language. Requesting such translation results in gibberish output (See screenshot below).
- For pairs where there are multiple models, it would be helpful to have the default option labelled as "softcatalà (default)". In this way, users switching across the different options to test translation quality will have always clear which is the current default.
- For language pairs where there is only one model option, it would be better to show the dropdown disabled to still indicate which model is used but communicating that there are no other options.
