Request for semi-protection

I would like someone to semi-protect the page User:Coppertwig/sig (edit=autoconfirmed, move=autoconfirmed). I'm not doing this myself because it's my own page. For more information, see discussion at Wiktionary. Thanks. Coppertwig(talk) 16:09, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

(e/c) American Eagle beat me to it by literally a second. :-P — RyanCross (talk) 00:40, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
LOL! Thanks! Coppertwig(talk) 12:32, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

*facepalm* Floating Pelican (talk changes), a sock of the infamous Ass Pus vandal, came here when no one was looking and defaced about thirty articles. Could an admin block the buffoon, before he returns? Thanks. Tempodivalse @en.wikinews 18:35, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for all the reverts. Indef-blocked, vandal-only account. TheAE talk 18:47, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

MediaWiki pages

Please could an administrator make the following changes:

This is to make the messages appear in Simple English. GT5162 20:45, 26 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Done Maxim | talk 20:47, 26 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Can you do the same for these:
Thanks. GT5162 20:52, 26 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Done  Tempodivalse  20:56, 26 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. The other ones that still say "edit" are mainly administrator only messages, such as "allow user to edit talk page" so I don't think they need to be changed. GT5162 21:01, 26 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

User creation log. He should be blocked for having an inappropriate username. GT5162 (talk) 18:26, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

How is it inappropriate? It doesn't appear profane or otherwise disruptive to me.  Tempodivalse  18:34, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
See this. He is a banned user an enwiki. American Eagle already blocked him. GT5162 (talk) 18:34, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, Done – Not welcome here/bad username. :) TheAE talk 18:36, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm suggesting that we use MediaWiki:Usernameblacklist to block other inappropriate usernames from creation. GT5162 (talk) 18:40, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Done Created at MediaWiki:Titleblacklist.  Tempodivalse  19:01, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I was welcoming new users when I saw this. This username looks suspicious, especially if you look at Grawp's contributions on Wikipedia. Probably best to wait and see if he edits. GT5162 (talk) 20:05, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It looks suspiciously as if this is a sock of the now indef-blocked JarlaxleArtemis (talk changes), given the time period between when the two accounts were created. However, I think it would be best to wait unti the user edits before deciding whether to block.  Tempodivalse  20:22, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm just concerned that he's waiting to become autoconfirmed so that he can perform page move vandalism (like Grawp did), but I suppose that waiting a few days wouldn't do any harm. GT5162 (talk) 20:29, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hum, I didn't consider that possibility. Still, it would be better to err on the side of caution, after all, we don't want to block a legitimate user. Although I agree this looks extremely suspicious. Tempodivalse [☎] 20:43, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have left a message at his talk page. We should watch his contributions carefully to see if he acts like Grawp. GT5162 (talk) 20:51, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. I've done some cross-wiki checks, and this user doesn't seem to have vandalised any other wikis on this account and he has no edits here, so there's no reason to block quite yet. I'll keep an eye on the user's contribs, though.  Tempodivalse  20:58, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That is true, but this username is on the enwiki title blacklist as ".*ⒽⒶⒼⒼⒺⓇ.* <newaccountonly> #Latest Grawp naming scheme". That's what I find concerning. GT5162 (talk) 21:03, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
On that basis, I have indef-blocked the account.  Tempodivalse  21:07, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Impersonator of Juliancolton. Also, TempoDiValse (talk changes) and American eagle (talk changes), but they have been blocked already. GT5162 (talk) 16:04, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked indefinitely.  Tempodivalse  16:25, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
All three accounts were globally locked. –Juliancolton | Talk 16:28, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I forgot about global account locking. Was 74.63.84.85 the IP then? GT5162 (talk) 16:30, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it appears so. Probably revealed by checkuser.  Tempodivalse  16:37, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yep. –Juliancolton | Talk 16:38, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Username account spamming

There was recently a person/bot who was creating masses of accounts on many different projects (en.wikinews probably had the worst of it, over 100 such accounts were created). There's a pattern to it - each username has ten characters, and the first and sixth ones are always capitalised. I've noticed a few such usernames being created over here as well. This is far too much of a pattern to possibly be a coincidence, so I've indefblocked the accounts. Please keep an eye on the user creation log.  Tempodivalse  17:37, 22 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, it's been going on across most projects; the stewards etc are already aware of it. –Juliancolton | Talk 17:38, 22 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the heads up, Tempodivalse. I wouldn't have guessed those two accounts were spambots (etc.). I'll be more careful in whom I welcome, also. TheAE talk 17:45, 22 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've just alerted the other simple wikis to this issue, they too have had some of these accounts created. Please notify any other wikis that have had this problem. (Note that all accounts have been created from open proxies, as confirmed by checkuser at the English Wikinews, so it might be a good idea to get a steward in here to checkuser them to block the underlying IP addresses.)  Tempodivalse  17:49, 22 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
