This page is an official policy on Wikiquote.
It has wide acceptance among editors and is considered a standard that all users should follow.
Big changes to this page should be talked about on the talk page before changing.


Only administrators can delete pages, categories, and pictures. Sometimes, pages may be deleted quickly. If you see a page that needs to be deleted, put {{QD|reason}} at the top and an administrator will check it.

Reasons for deletion

General rules - All pages

  1. The whole page is nonsense (for example, "I'm dumb... lol and i dunno.")
  2. It is a test page (for example, "Can I really create a page here?".)
  3. The content is completely vandalism (some of these things are strong language, attack pages, and so on.)
  4. Talk pages of pages that do not exist (unless important, these talk pages should not be kept.)
  5. Author request (the creator of a page asked to delete)
  6. It breaks a copyright law.
  7. Housekeeping. Pages deleted that don't need to be discussed because the Administrator deleting the page was trying to fix an accidental mistake or trying to clean up something.

Articles

  1. Is not a quote page and can't be made into a quote page.
  2. Is not notable. All pages should be created need to be notable, pages that have no notability should be deleted. Quote have to be famous things that people say, or things that famous people say.

Redirects

  1. Redirects to pages that do not exist (broken redirect)
  2. Redirects to the User: or User talk: space (from the main article space)

User pages

  1. User request. User pages can be deleted if its user wants to, but not always.
  2. Non-existent user. User pages of users that do not exist. Administrators should check Special:Contributions and Special:DeletedContributions.

Categories

  1. Empty categories (categories with no pages in them)
