Lacey Evans left WWE in 2023 after her contract expired, and she has now shared more details about her departure from the sports entertainment giant. In an interview with Carlo Perruzza, the former WWE star, now known by her real name Macey Estrella, expressed gratitude for her time in the company but revealed that her primary ambitions lie outside the ring.

Here’s everything you need to know about why Lacey Evans wanted to leave WWE.
Lacey Evans, known as "The Lady of WWE," combined the glamor of a pin-up model with the discipline of a warrior. Growing up in a broken home with seven siblings, she joined the U.S. Marines, graduating with honours from Fort Leonard Wood and serving as military police on the Special Reaction Team. While still in service, Evans opened a construction company, housed and employed three of her siblings, and, along with her husband, began raising a daughter.

Inspired to pursue sports entertainment after watching a staff sergeant compete at a local event, Evans began wrestling in smaller local leagues in the southeastern United States before she joined the WWE Performance Center in April 2016. She steadily climbed NXT's ranks, competing in the inaugural Mae Young Classic and the 2019 Royal Rumble Match.
But last year (2023), Lacey Evans left WWE after her contract expired. In an interview with “Carlo Perruzza”, the former WWE star, now known as Macey Estrella, expressed gratitude for her time in the company but shared that her main ambitions lie outside the ring.

Evans mentioned in the interview "From the beginning of my career, I've always wanted a family. I've always wanted a big family. I've always wanted to be a mom, I've always wanted to be a wife, and there was nothing that would ever come between that. Seven years I was with the WWE, and it was coming...I was 33 when I finally got to get out of my, they wouldn't even let me out of my contract, which was fine. You sign a contract, you give them your word. So I had to wait until it ran out."
Evans has openly discussed her departure from WWE, citing creative dissatisfaction as a primary reason. The former U.S. Marine expressed discontent with being sidelined in catering, which ultimately influenced her decision to leave the company after her contract ended. Additionally, Evans admitted surprise at her seven-year tenure in WWE, given her reputation for speaking her mind and clashing with management backstage. Since July 2023, Evans has not competed in any matches, leaving uncertainty about her future in wrestling.
