Under UK law you are now required to present ID in order to vote in person. This can pose issues for a lot of different communities, especially Trans+ and Non-Binary people who are unable to physically or legally access identification that has their correct name, gender, photo or presentation. With this in mind, myself Not A Phase created content around how to get a Voter Authority Certificate in time to vote at the May 2nd elections. In January, new UK legislation was brought in which requires you to show ID before you vote in person at polling stations. For Trans+ people this could be a barrier to voting, so we're encouraging you to check that your ID will be accepted and, if you are unsure, to apply for a voter authority certificate, it takes 5 minutes and you only need a digital photo and your National Insurance Number. The link is in the first comment on this post. We have shared this not to cause any panic, but to ensure that we are all able to exercise our right to vote. With elections coming up May 2nd and a general election later this year it is really important to check your ID status. Please share this post to help more people access their vote.
