The insurance industry must evolve to attract Gen Z talent. Misconceptions about laziness and entitlement mask a generation valuing inclusivity, respect, and authenticity. As Dr. Elizabeth Feigin notes, Gen Z seeks flexible work environments, creative freedom, and decision-making autonomy. For firms, clear communication during onboarding about workplace norms and expectations is essential. Managers should be trained to assess and address the unique needs of a diverse, younger workforce, emphasizing emotional agility alongside technical skills. Take a read at the full article below.. In the latest episode of The Future of the Firm podcast by Source, Helen Tudor, MD at Sheffield Haworth and Fiona Czerniawska, CEO at Source Global Research, discussed several key issues with Emma Carroll, Source’s Head of Content. They noted a decline in female partner appointments, which dropped from 29% in 2022 to 26% in 2023, reversing a long-term positive trend. Recruiting female leaders from outside similar organizations enhances diversity, they observed. In the current challenging economic environment, firms prefer senior hires who can perform immediately, avoiding risks for candidates needing more development. Clients increasingly seek diverse consulting teams, reflecting a broader industry trend. Despite the tough economy, strong female candidates are retained by their current employers, who counter lower salary offers to keep them. The conversation also highlighted the value firms place on candidates with robust networks, which presents challenges for those from non-consulting backgrounds or who have been out of the market. Additionally, Helen and Fiona pointed out that redundancy criteria during restructures can inadvertently lead to the exit of high-potential employees, which firms need to consider carefully. Happy Juneteenth from all of us at Sheffield Haworth! Today commemorates the Thirteenth Amendment abolishing slavery and is a day to celebrate African-American culture. To celebrate this anniversary historical reenactments are performed, balls, festivals, picnics, rodeos, and street fairs are attended, and the Emancipation Proclamation and General Order No. 3 are publicly read. To all of those celebrating, we wish you a fulfilled day. #independencedayUS #juneteenth2024

We recently came together to support The Earth Saviours Foundation (T.E.S.F), an internationally acclaimed non-profit organisation dedicated to serving the underprivileged, providing a safe haven, and promoting environmental sustainability. Over the past 13 years, T.E.S.F has rescued over 15,000 people from homelessness. The response from the SH India team was overwhelming. On June 13, a group of our volunteers visited the NGO to hand over the charity contributions. A special shoutout to Bhrigangshu Sharma, Sethumadhavan Srinivasan, Avneesh Raghuvanshi, Swati Sethi, Raj Kumar, Anjuma, and Amber Shamim for their in-person support and a big thank you to everyone from our Global offices who contributed. This enabled us to provide a substantial amount of fruits, vegetables, groceries, nutritional supplements, and more to the community. #CharityEvent #CommunitySupport

Today, on Social Mobility Day, we are sharing an article from Insurance Inclusion that covers The Financial Services Skills Commission (FSSC) report titled "Future Skills: Challenges and Solutions for the Insurance Industry in 2024." The article emphasises the need for firms to make a conscious and sustained effort to broaden talent pools. It discusses the adoption of a skills-based approach within the industry, which includes future skills forecasting, skills gap analyses, and a focus on upskilling, reskilling, and strategic recruiting. The report highlights the significant skills shortages in data and technology within the insurance sector and identifies challenges such as resistance to change among older talent, evolving existing skill sets, broadening HR knowledge for tech roles, and retaining data specialists. On Social Mobility Day, a commitment was made to create opportunities and pathways for all, aiming to foster an industry that thrives on diversity and continuous learning. The goal is to bridge the skills gap so that the FS sector can continue to innovate. #SocialMobilityDay #DiversityAndInclusion

We are pleased to welcome five interns from the 10,000 Black Interns and 10,000 Able Interns initiative. Our holistic six-week enrichment program prepares our interns for corporate life, regardless of their parent's occupation and class background. Ademide Agunsoye, Chris Nnaji, Hafsa Usman, and Samuel Shipp joined us at the start of last week and have experienced different practice areas, including our Wealth and Asset Management team, Corporate Functions, HR, and Digital Marketing. Firdaws Ariya has also returned to us after completing an internship in 2023 and is working with our legal counsel. We hope we give them some valuable knowledge to help them with their future studies and ambitions and the chance to start building their own professional networks. Black and disabled people often face barriers to entry when embarking on their careers. Realising potential is our core mission at Sheffield Haworth, and in the run-up to Social Mobility Day tomorrow, we wanted to showcase our commitment to enabling inclusive environments where the best and the brightest realise their potential. Special thanks to all our interns for being part of the team!! We are all looking forward to seeing you all develop over the next 5 weeks.

Our Insurance team recently had a discussion with Tom Eagar, Head of ESG and Sustainability at Sheffield Haworth about Private Equity's Push for ESG Talent in Insurance Broking. Private Equity is flooding the insurance industry, sparking a surge in senior hires within brokers, MGAs, and intermediaries. This M&A-driven trend is reshaping ESG (environment, social, governance) initiatives. Take a read of the full discussion below...
