We’ve set a target of locally sourcing 80% of the food we provide to our site workforce. It’s an ambition that would create significant opportunities for regional food producers and suppliers. At peak construction, there’ll be around 7,900 workers on site, and it’s estimated the cumulative food and product value will amount to just under £60 million over the 12-year construction period. Damian Leydon, Sizewell C Site Delivery Director: “Suffolk is well known for being a foodie county, and it’s a no-brainer for us to tap into and support local suppliers and local produce. “It’s an ambitious target, and we’ll always have to balance our local preference with the need to provide affordable meals for the team onsite – but we’ve got a clear plan in place and we’re looking forward to working with the many excellent suppliers and producers in the region to deliver quality catering for Sizewell C.” Find out more on our website. https://lnkd.in/dEPBgkNy

Not only will Sizewell C generate low-carbon electricity for over 60 years, but we’re also investing in new technology to remove harmful CO2 from the atmosphere. That’s why we’re building a Direct Air Capture demonstrator unit at the Port of Lowestoft. Learn more about our plans: https://lnkd.in/eptDf-ft #NetZero #NetZeroWeek

We are delighted to announce that the Sizewell C Community Fund is open for applications. Suffolk Community Foundation is now inviting eligible charitable and not-for-profit groups in East Suffolk to bid for a share of the £23m fund. Small grants of up to £10,000 and large grants of over £10,000 are available – for up to three years of funding. The money will be awarded to projects in the East Suffolk Council area that promote the economic, social, or environmental wellbeing of the communities most impacted by the construction of Sizewell C, and which enhance people’s quality of life. Around £2m will be made available each year for the next 10 years. Julia Pyke FEI, HonFNucl, Sizewell C Joint Managing Director, said: “The Sizewell C Community Fund is a wonderful way to ensure that local communities benefit from the Sizewell C project for years to come. It’s a key part of the legacy we want to leave for East Suffolk. We’re excited to see the many projects and initiatives that will benefit, and to see the impacts they’ll have across our region.” For more information about the fund, eligibility criteria and how to apply, visit https://lnkd.in/eBmWVJ99 Read more: https://lnkd.in/e4Z98tZp

“It’s amazing to see the progress we’ve made since I started here.” Meet Daisy. She’s worked on the Sizewell C project for about 10 months, as a plant operator for contractor, Blackwell Earthmoving. Daisy had experience driving tractors on her family farm, which gave her the confidence to sign up for the Blackwell trainee scheme. Now she’s working on one of the biggest clean energy projects in the UK. “This is a once-in-a-generation project,” says Daisy, “and it’s a fantastic place to work – everyone is so friendly here. I love it, and I can’t wait to see where the project will be in another 10 months!” Find out more about Sizewell C: sizewellc.com

Site snapshot! After securing our Nuclear Site Licence last month, we’re continuing to make great progress. Completing major earthworks is a crucial part of the project. Here, some of the team are working on the earthworks on our main access road, which will run from the B19 onto site. What you can see is cut and fill work – lowering high spots and filling in low spots to make a flat surface for the road – and a smooth ride in! You can find out more about the project at sizewellc.com #sizewellc #construction #earthworks #nuclear

The Sizewell C team, in collaboration with our supply chain partners Associated British Ports, Volker Fitzpatrick, and Fern Communications, recently completed another day of volunteering for Inspire, a youth charity in Lowestoft. Our collective effort revitalized Inspire’s outdoor spaces, creating a more welcoming environment for the young people they serve. This transformation enhances the area for outdoor activities while also providing a brighter, friendlier space for counselling sessions and other vital support services. In June 1944, the Suffolk coastline was strewn with gun emplacements, mines, anti-tank blocks, and a series of square pillboxes, as the combined armies, navies, and air forces of twelve nations, with over 150,000 troops, were planning to land on five French beaches on 6th June. Our #OCAArchTeam excavations at Goose Hill, Sizewell, have been revealing key defensive structures and the personal artefacts of WWII soldiers, that highlight the crucial part Suffolk played in preparing for the Normandy landings, ultimately turning the war in the favour of the Allied Forces. As we commemorate 80 years since D-Day, we’re reflecting on Suffolk’s contribution to Operation Overlord — you can read more about our discoveries in Ed and Hannah’s article: https://lnkd.in/ecC4RMjp #DDay #DDay80 #DDayRememberance #SZCArchaeology #Suffolk #Archaeology #WWII #WWIIHistory Sizewell C Oxford Archaeology Limited
