👋👋 Hi - we're The Marketing Meetup and this is the story of why we're here. In 2016 our founder was a lonely marketer who was terrified of networking events: the business cards. The sales pitches. The lack of any kind of 'realness' 😱 And so he started an event in a canteen in Cambridge. A speaker to learn from. A buffet/pizza. A warm vibe, and the encouragement to look after each other a bit (we call that being 'positively lovely'). Today, TMM is way more than it was ever supposed to be. A community of tens of thousands strong running hundreds of events around the world for a group of genuinely lovely humans. It's been an unexpected, wonderful journey. A journey of community. Meet Cai. He's sort of become an advert for what a Marketing Meetup event is all about. Some facts about Cai: - He works in marketing (self proclaimed data geek) - He helps run the Manchester Meetup event - He is a phenomenal athlete - He is generous (always making sure people are having a good time) - He is on his own journey of confidence and self growth helping run The Key Note Club This means if you meet Cai at one of our events, the conversation could go in one of many directions. But the fact he is such a lovely chap means you're guaranteed to enjoy chatting with him. Our community is full of folks like Cai who come with a giving mindset. Wind the clock. David Hieatt read a passage that reminded us that tough times come and go. As marketers we have lots of highs and lows. And so this letter from author E.B White is a great reminder that tomorrow can be a reset. Hang on to your hat. Hang on to your hope. And wind the clock, for tomorrow is another day.

"This is my mission for tonight" 💪 At the back of this photo, you'll see Shriram Jeevakumar ✌️who did something last week that typified what The Marketing Meetup community is all about. For the 2nd month in a row, the local pizza company let us down at a London event 😭, lots of phone calls and excuses later, Shriram turned to El and said: "It is only 8 minutes away, I'll go and get them. This is my mission for tonight" Sacrificing being able to listen to the talk and miss some of the event, he set out to collect the pizzas and came back with them piled high in his arms. Shriram wanted to make sure everyone else in the room had a great night and he succeeded. THIS is what community is about. A giving mindset is so powerful and something we really encourage others to do. Thinking about how you can make someone else's day better leads to better relationships and more magic moments 🪄✨. Andrew Pickering and Pete Gartland have set the bar extremely high when it comes to soul-filling, value-adding, fun-having, person-connecting events. I had a BLAST up in Newcastle this week and if you want to see more, look at the hashtag #atomicon24 (Andrew is very particular about this, so I hope I got it right!!)

The brilliant Mo Gawdat said something about happiness yesterday that reminded us of the importance of human connection. At Intuit Mailchimp's excellent 'From Here to There' event, we saw some fabulous talks. But when Mo spoke about Oxytocin, he called it the 'hug hormone' 💡 When we connect with other humans, are accepted into a group or get a hug from a friend, we get a little release of Oxytocin. And that makes us feel good. It is why we work so hard to make our own events safe, friendly spaces where people can get these little feelings of happiness through connection. In a world where more and more of us work at home, travelling to events like these are so important for our wellbeing. We met dozens of folks from our community and had hug after hug. It was a great day! Huge thanks to the team at MailChimp for putting on such a wonderful event! We're inspired 🙌 (and feeling happier 😊) #marketingevent #marketing
