Dangerous Heat in the Western U.S.; Flash Flooding Possible Across Portions of the South

High temperatures in the 90s to 100s and warm overnight temperatures will continue across parts of the Interior Northwest, central California, and the Great Basin. Thunderstorms and heavy rain may produce scattered flash flooding across much of the Southern Rockies into the Southwest, particularly over sensitive burn scars in New Mexico, and across the Southeast into the Carolinas. The Excessive Heat Warning has been extended through Wednesday evening for Death Valley NP, southern Nye County and northwest San Bernardino County. HeatRisk will stay in the Major to Extreme Category. The remaining part of the Excessive Heat Warning is still set to end this evening at 9 pm. Be sure to keep hydrated, limit outdoor exposure, and recognize the signs of heat illness.
Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop primarily across southern Nevada and western Arizona this afternoon through late evening. There is a 5%-15% chance for severe winds across southern Mohave County and lower Colorado River Valley of far eastern San Bernardino County. There is also a marginal risk of heavy rain with thunderstorms in western Arizona, far eastern Clark and San Bernardino Counties.
