DO NOT DISTURB. WHODUNNIT IN PROGRESS . . .

Molly Gray wears her Head Maid badge proudly for every shift at the Regency Grand Hotel: plumping pillows, sweeping up secrets, silently restoring rooms to a state of perfection. But the hotel’s reputation is sullied when a guest – a famous mystery writer – drops very dead on the tearoom floor.

As suspicion swirls in the hotel corridors, it’s clear there’s grime lurking beneath the gilt. And Molly knows that she alone holds the key to the mystery. But unlocking it means thinking about the past, about a dusty old house, and everything else she’s tidied away in her memory.

Because Molly knew the dead guest once upon a time – and she knows his secrets too . . .

Enjoyed reading
I read The Maid last year on my kindle and enjoyed it, so I was thrilled to read book 2 just after publication..Although life has changed for Molly, there are still many familiar faces at her place of work, The Regency Grand Hotel (we couldn’t decide whether this is in the UK, US or Canada - they drink a lot of tea ☕️).The book looks at who murdered the famous author just before he made his announcement. We have flashbacks to when Molly was young and her grandmother worked for the same author as a maid..There are a few people with a motive for the murder and Molly tries to solve the mystery. This is a non spoiler review so I’m not delving too deep into the details..I enjoyed returning to the hotel to find out how Molly’s life changed, and to try to work out who the murderer is..An enjoyable cosy murder mystery story with some interesting characters. Happy to recommend The Mystery Guest by Nita Prose, available now in hardback, ebook and audio book

I read the first in this series when it was released and enjoyed it. It wasn’t a lightening bolt of a book but was enjoyable. Now I’ve read the second one I can say that it’s better than the first! A cosy and comfortable mystery with loveable and quirky characters. So easy to read with some short and some longer chapters. I’ve enjoyed both books but it’s nice to see them getting better as they go - I hope there’ll be a third in the wonderful world of Molly the maid.

I really did like this book, but I would advise people to read the first book 'The Maid' because that is where you really get to know the character's especially Molly. I wouldn't have liked the second book had I not read the first one. Although the author does give a back story the first book is a must for me.

I love Molly and all the characters in these books but I felt that the ending was a little flat. However I'd still read another in this series as Molly is so likeable. The author writes so well from her perspective.

I dudnt think it would be possible to surpass the first Maid mystery but this is better and I can't wait for the next one....there will be a next one? Right?

I loved The Maid and Molly's character from the first book so couldn't wait to read the 2nd one.
It was fun and enjoyable and I loved being back at the hotel with Molly.
I love the way she is with people and how much pride she has in her job. I gave it 4 stars as it seemed a bit obvious who the killer was but I still really enjoyed it and if you liked The Maid you must read this!

A quick read that draws you in within a few short pages. Humor, plot twists, and solid, fleshed out characters. A great Sunday afternoon escape. Admittedly, I read this book before her first but look forward to reading it and catching up on the back story. A wonderful character arc in the last few pages that hint of fun and more from Maid Molly. I look forward to the 3rd installment coming out this year!

4.0 out of 5 stars An entertaining cozy mystery!

"The Mystery Guest" by Nita Prose is the second book in the Molly-the-Maid series and like the first book "The Maid", I really enjoyed reading it.

The book is more a character-driven cozy mystery than an action-packed crime novel, but this is okay since the main focus is on Molly and her involvement in a murder at the Regency Grand Hotel, where she works as Head Maid. The victim is J. D. Grimthorpe, a renowned bestselling mystery writer, who is residing at the hotel to make an important announcement in front of the press and an exclusive circle of fans. But before he can do so, he drops dead after drinking from his cup tea. As it turns out later, he was poisoned.

Molly knows Grimthorpe from when she was a child and accompanied her grandmother, a maid at the author's mansion, to work during her holidays. There Molly made certain discoveries that are very useful now to find the murderer and solve the case. Molly becomes a kind of sidekick to Detective Stark, who learns to appreciate Molly's special way of looking at things and her sharp observation skills.

As I have mentioned before, you don't really get lots of action and violence, the focus is on Molly, who has undergone some changes in personality since book one (she is much more self-confident now!) and on J. D. Grimthorpe, who was not the person everyone thought he was. But smart Molly figures out his secret and contributes to solving this case.

I like the character of Molly, she's an honest, hard-working, diligent and sensitive young woman, who has finally found her place in life. The ending suggests that there might be a book 3 in the making and that Molly might even go for a different job.

Well, I'm definitely looking forward to reading another book featuring Molly!

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing

Eager to read this second novel about Molly, I found it over- descriptive, drawn in repetitions, a bit naive as if the author addressed schoolchildren or mentally disabled adults. Considering myself not ( at least entirely!!) disabled, I dropped it.
