**THE GRIPPING SECOND NOVEL FROM ROB RINDER AND FOLLOW-UP TO NO. 1 BESTSELLER THE TRIAL**

When the UK's favourite breakfast TV presenter dies live on air in front of millions of viewers, the nation is left devastated.

More devastated still when it becomes clear that her death was not an accident.

The evidence points to one culprit: celebrity chef Sebastian Brooks. But junior barrister Adam Green is about to discover that the case is not as open-and-shut as it first seemed.

And although her angelic persona would suggest otherwise, she was not short of enemies in the glittery TV world . . .

Can Adam uncover the truth?

About the Author

Rob Rinder is a practising criminal barrister, a broadcaster and Sunday Times best-selling author. Called to the bar in 2001, Rob went on to specialise in cases involving international fraud, money laundering and other forms of financial crime, while working in media to make law more accessible. He started his broadcast career with Judge Rinder for ITV before going on to host his own BBC 5Live series Raising the Bar. Featuring in Who Do You Think You Are?, Rob’s story resulted in creating the documentary My Family, the Holocaust and Me.

A regular host on ITV’s
Good Morning Britain, Rob co-hosts BBC Two’s Amazing Hotels: Life Beyond The Lobby and has recently filmed a new travel show, The Grand Tour, which will see Rob and his co-host Rylan retrace the footsteps of cultural greats around Italy. Shedding light on the unsolved mystery of what happened to the Princes in the Tower during Richard III’s reign for a Channel 4 documentary in 2023, Rob’s filmed a new show for the channel exploring the history of prisons which will come to our screens later this year.

In 2020, Rob was awarded an MBE for his services to Holocaust education and an honorary doctorate for his legal work.

The Trial was Rob's number one bestselling debut novel and The Suspect is the much anticipated follow-up. Both novels are inspired by Rob's own experiences as a barrister.

I have read the first of Mr Rinder's books which reminded me of Rumpole of the Bailey mixed with a touch of hello magazine, this was very much on the same theme, however I enjoyed this book and look forward to the next instalment.

Well he has done it again. I enjoyed the first book and had high hopes for the second and Rob has not disappointed. I really enjoy the legal perspective and what goes on in chambers and how Adam just wants to his best for the person he is defending. These books are intelligently written and are a ray of light in a time where cozy crime books seems to take over whether they have any substance or not.
Looking forward to next. Rob is a rare talent and as a author he is outstanding.

I sat in the sun and devoured this in a day. Well written, excellent pace of story with a few twists. I can read these much faster than they can be written. I hope Adam Green has a long and prosperous career.

Really enjoyed second book but maybe not quite so much as the first one.

Feels like this one is definitely going to be continued as a few loose ends to be tied.

Glad that this isn’t the end of all the characters - what a murky world we live in

‘The Suspect’ by Rob Rinder is the famous TV judge and author’s second novel featuring barrister Adam Green. This instalment begins as morning television darling Jessica Holby takes her last breaths live in front of 1.2 million viewers, suffering from a severe allergic reaction. Since everyone in the Wake Up Britain! studio was well aware of her allergy to soy, including the esteemed resident chef Sebastian Brooks, it’s clear that her demise was not an accident. Months later, Adam becomes the junior assigned to defend Brooks against a murder charge.

I did find this novel quite similar in structure to the first book, giving it a fairly predictable narrative arc. While the plot points are realistic and likely follow Rinder’s real-life experiences, I felt like there was some repetition.

However, the characters at Stag Court Chambers are an interesting bunch which makes the series immensely readable! I particularly enjoyed seeing Adam and Georgia as friends and colleagues rather than rivals for tenancy, and the absence of Rupert with stress was relatable. The book did an excellent job of demonstrating how difficult, sometimes unfulfilling and occasionally dangerous being a junior barrister is, and how rising to the top is an arduous path.

The key mystery itself was gripping and had dashes of celebrity glamour to captivate the reader. A side plot relating to gang culture was an interesting and eye-opening diversion that raised many moral questions. Adam’s mother again provided comic relief, determined to find him a wife and hear about his famous connections!

Overall, I would recommend this novel to fans of the first, or to anyone who wants an informative and engrossing view of the British justice system. I’m giving 3.5 stars (rounded up!) and hoping that there will be a Book 3, perhaps with a somewhat different structure but the same loveable characters.

I received an advance Digital Review Copy of this book from the publisher Random House, Cornerstone via NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.
