We have now upgraded two of our properties with the Ring alarm, obviously we’re re very pleased. Its modular, of high quality and the app is very user friendly. Given all its features I find the Ring components attractively priced.These battery-powered 2nd generation contact sensors are quite slick, smaller and more stylish than the traditional bulky, shiny white plastic sensors we had before.I’ve installed quite a few by now and can tell from experience that they are quite versatile. Of course they look best on a modern door or window that closes without falling deep in its frame. However I had to install the sensors as well in different settings and on some older crooked doors - as long as both parts of the sensor are a few cm in reach of each other it should work i.e. there can be a gap between both parts and/or you can install them in an angular manner.I prefer to fix them with little plugs and screws (not included) so that I can remove the device when the door or wall gets redecorated. But the double sided glue tape on the back does the job just as well.So the installation, and set up in the app doesn’t require any tools and could take you less than two minutes, provided you have your base station in place.

I’ve installed quite a few by now and can tell from experience that they are quite versatile. Of course they look best on a modern door or window that closes without falling deep in its frame. However I had to install the sensors as well in different settings and on some older crooked doors - as long as both parts of the sensor are a few cm in reach of each other it should work i.e. there can be a gap between both parts and/or you can install them in an angular manner.
I prefer to fix them with little plugs and screws (not included) so that I can remove the device when the door or wall gets redecorated. But the double sided glue tape on the back does the job just as well.
So the installation, and set up in the app doesn’t require any tools and could take you less than two minutes, provided you have your base station in place.

Excellent sensors, near enough to real time notifications on the Ring app etc after a full year of use they have never given me a false reading or alert.

I have these installed on all my doors, out in the garden on a bike locker (works despite being inside metal), and on the garden shed (inside) and it works reliably every time, with quite a stable range/connection as the shed door is a double door it does move with the wind and it's never gone off.

(Note, the "Outdoor" door sensor is MUCH bigger than this unit, but would be more suited to a heavier job.)

The only gripe I have is that they are quite easily knocked off there mounting then you'll get a "Tamper" alert on the app, so ensure they are mounted up high/out of the way because if someone touches it or brushes a coat against it chances are it'll be shifted out of position and you'll get a tamper warning.

But all in all, great sensor and I'd happily buy more if I had more doors!

I’ve already had one fail on me in the space of a month. I did get a replacement sent from Ring so I will add a star back on however the process to get a replacement was LONG and almost not worth the time it took. The replacement sensor also seems like it is heading in the same direction as the battery is draining very quickly and it sometimes misses the door being open. All in all it is good and works great with the Ring alarm system
