6:29pm: Washington Freedom have won by four runs. It's pouring down heavily and there's no realistic chance to get in overs before the cut-off time so that's all the action we have for you today from MLC. There could have been some twists and turns in this game if we had a full match because both these teams boast lethal bowling attacks. That over from Anrich Nortje changed the complexion of the game as Steve Smith was severe on him, ransacking 22 runs in the sixth over. Those timely hits put them ahead on the DLS.

Just after 24 hours, the defending champions have been defeated in a rain-marred affair. Their batting seems to be relying heavily on Nicholas Pooran and Kieron Pollard. Rashid Khan's late onslaught gave them a great recovery from a precarious situation but winning consistently will require a full team effort. MINY started remarkably with the ball but one over swung the momentum in favor of WF. Steve Smith's aggressive intent turned the tables as he took on Anrich Nortje, hitting him for two sixes and two fours in the sixth over.

Thank you for joining us today. We'll look forward to your company for tomorrow's match between San Francisco Unicorns and Los Angeles Knight Riders. Until next time, it's goodbye from Rvel Zahid

6:26pm: Unfortunately, the forecast isn't looking promising for the next two hours so don't get your hopes up for a quick resumption. We've also started to lose overs from this point on

5:50pm: Covers are coming on now. The pitch has been fully covered and spectators are trying to find shelter as umbrellas go up. Picture looks gloomy at the moment but WF won't be too bothered though it would be annoying for MINY. Let's hope it clears away quickly and the mop-up work doesn't take long once the rain stops. We will keep you updated.

Yashwanth: "I live in Morrisville, and couple of blocks away from the ground. Just received a thunderstorm warning. MI fan me in full disappointment"

Naman: "in Baseball, home run distances are measured in feet. It makes perfect sense that distance of sixes is shared in feet to make it more relatable to that audience in the US."

Neil: "Morvin, the sixes are measured in feet and ball speed in mph because this is America, where the metric system is frowned upon and the Imperial system is normalized."

Anwar Shah: "That poor over from nortje has really changed the game and i am very disappointed from his effort."

7.4
Kenjige to Gous, no run

Keeping it very tight at off, carved to cover, excellent start, need someone to build pressure because at the moment WF are cruising and there is a bolt of lightening, getting very dark out there and the players are going off!!! It could bucket down at any minute! DLS par score at this stage is 51

1
Kenjige to Smith, 1 run

Tossed up on middle, flicked to midwicket and he ambles across to the other end, WF motoring along nicely

7.2
Kenjige to Smith, no run

Good length just outside off, driven straight to short cover

Morvin : "Trying to figure out why the distance for a six is reported in feet and not meters."

2
Kenjige to Smith, 2 runs

Floated up outside off, gave room and he plays a sumptuous square cut, fielder in the deep made fantastic ground and saved a certain boundary, Kenjige came round the wicket and bowled on a length

6.6
Rashid Khan to Gous, no run

Lobbed up just outside off, plays an elegant late cut towards backward point

6.5
4
Rashid Khan to Gous, FOUR runs

Dangles a legbreak on a length but he has played that to perfection, goes back and plays a delectable cover drive and sweeper cover's valiant effort goes down the drain

6.4
Rashid Khan to Gous, no run

Gives him a charge and gets thumped on the pads, beautiful googly right on cue

6.3
1
Rashid Khan to Smith, 1 run

Allows it to spin and then punches it gently into the covers for a single

6.2
Rashid Khan to Smith, no run

Tucked into the leg side

Rashid Khan to Smith, FOUR runs

Rare freebie from Rashid Khan, tossed up on a length wide of off, Smith goes back and plays a great cut shot, as if someone has sliced a tomato with a sharp knife

Nortje to Smith, 1 run

22 off this over! Aiming for the blockhole, he comes down and shovels' it towards Boult at mid-off for a run. Think it wasn't the right match-up, could have gone with spin from both ends because Smith thrives on pace, especially deck-hitter enforcers and Nortje didn't even try any cutters

Karthik Sundara: "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington"

6
Nortje to Smith, SIX runs

Whoa, just frame that shot! That has been spanked with insolence way over deep square for a 302 ft six. Short on off with no pace, Smith shuffles across and gets in a brilliant position to execute the pull, what an entry to MLC!

5.4
4
Nortje to Smith, FOUR runs

Lashed down the ground insolently past mid-off for yet another boundary! Fraction bit of width offered and slightly overpitched, Smith does the rest!

5.3
Nortje to Smith, no run

That's a better line. Short of a length in the corridor, left it alone for the keeper to collect but this is a fascinating contest, brought up on bouncy fast wickets, Steve Smith will not be afraid to face Nortje's pace

5.2
4
Nortje to Smith, FOUR runs

is that gonna be another boundary? Yes, it is! Short on middle, right on top of the bounce, it was chest height but no problems for Steve Smith who likes short stuff, carted away to midwicket boundary

1w
Nortje to Smith, 1 wide

Strays towards the leg side, wasted effort

6
Nortje to Smith, SIX runs

Over the wicket, that is outrageous, head-spinning batting from Steve Smith, it's like he read his mind before that thought to bowl in that zone appeared in Nortje's neurons. Shuffles across his stumps and scoops it way over the keeper's head for six, an incredible shot out of nowhere!

Rashid Khan to Smith, 1 run

Slightly short on middle, can't get underneath it, thought about depositing that into the stands but Rashid is quick, pushed towards long-on

4.5
1
Rashid Khan to Gous, 1 run

Searing googly, forces him to go back and he manages to somehow force it down to long-on

4.4
Rashid Khan to Gous, no run

Fuller on the leg side, he came on the front-foot and can't work it away neatly into the leg-side, ball dies down quickly,
