Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi on Monday referred to NEET as a "commercial exam" and said that students appearing for the exam alleged that the exam is designed for "rich students and not meritorious students."

NEET 2024 News Live: Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the ruling BJP on Monday over various issues including the ongoing row over the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) and arrests of Opposition leaders.

During his speech in Rajya Sabha on the debate on President Droupadi Murmu's address, Kharge said, “PM Modi embarrassed India. They used to call the Gamandiya alliance, they used to say if there is Modi, anything is possible. But the arrogance of BJP was broken after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.”

Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi raised the issue of alleged irregularities in the NEET examination in the Lok Sabha and demanded a separate one-day discussion on the issue in the Parliament.

"A message is disseminated to the country, from Parliament. We want to send a message to students that NEET issue is important for the Parliament. So, to send this message, we want the Parliament to discuss this," the Congress leader said.

NEET 2024 News Live Among the 813 candidates who took the re test, six were those who had earlier scored full marks (720 out of 720). However, in the re-exam none of them have got full marks, said a senior government official.

The total number of toppers have reduced from 67 to 61, the official added.

The Central Bureau of Investigation, probing the alleged malpractices in conducting the NEET-UG exam at a private school in Godhra of Gujarat on Sunday arrested its owner. With the arrest of Dixit Patel, owner of Jay Jalaram School situated near Godhra in Panchmahal district, the number of persons arrested so far- five of them were held by Gujarat Police- has gone up to six.

Jay Jalaram School was one of the designated centres where the NEET-UG exam was held on May 5. Patel was arrested in the early hours of Sunday from his residence in Panchmahal district, said public prosecutor Rakesh Thakor.

"As the case has been handed over to the CBI by the Gujarat government, a CBI team will produce him (Dixit Patel) before a designated court in Ahmedabad to acquire his remand," said Thakor.

The NEET UG Re-exam results have not been released yet.

After the re-exam results, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) is likely to begin the counselling process.

Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in his latest remark said assured students and citizens that strict action was underway.

The NTA on Friday announced fresh dates for UGC-NET which was cancelled ad postponed.

The UGC NET will now be held from August 21 to September 4.
