A visit to the Wyss Institute at Harvard University led to an engaging discussion with Luba Perry, PhD, a driving force behind ReConstruct Bio. This startup, spun out of the Wyss Institute, focuses on creating vascularized tissue for breast reconstruction using #3DBioprinting technology. Vanesa M. Listek from 3DPrint.com had the opportunity to talk to Luba about her innovative solutions. ReConstruct Bio is currently seeking #funding to further develop and scale its technology, which has the potential to significantly improve outcomes for #BreastCancerSurvivors. With over 3.8 million breast cancer survivors in the United States alone, their work is more critical than ever. More insights from this inspiring visit coming soon! #3DPrinting #BiomedicalEngineering #WyssInstitute #ReConstructBio #Innovation #HarvardUniversity #Funding #BreastCancerAwareness #MedicalInnovation #HealthTech #WomenInScience #TissueEngineering

Vanesa M. Listek from 3DPrint.com had the opportunity to visit the #CELLMET lab at Boston University’s Photonics Center, where cutting-edge research in cellular #metamaterials is ongoing. This NSF-supported Engineering Research Center, previously led by Professor Alice White is now being continued by her former PhD student, Dr. M. Çağatay Karakan, under the guidance of Professor Christopher Chen. The visit offered valuable insights into their pioneering work in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Stay tuned for more details on the fascinating developments at CELL-MET! #3DPrinting #BiomedicalEngineering #CELLMET #BostonUniversity #Innovation

Next month, we will celebrate the biggest possible anniversary in the AM industry - the filing of a patent application for stereolithography, which is considered the official birth of #3Dprinting. And it's not just any anniversary... It's the 40th anniversary! As a self-proclaimed historian of 3D printing, I couldn't miss such an opportunity and prepared an article in which I describe this event from a very wide angle. Why am I publishing in July and not August? Well, because somehow it turned out that the August anniversary is a celebration of Chuck Hull - the creator and author of the patent for stereolithography. The problem is that he wasn't the first... There were others before him. And his patent was not the first patent. Yeah... So it would be awkward to write about it on an equal anniversary. So it is now. Three weeks before. On 3DPrint.com. Read on...! #3dprintingindustry #additivemanufacturing #3dsystems #stereolitography #chuckhull

40 years ago, on August 8, 1984, Charles Hull, CTO at 3D Systems Corporation, filed a patent application for the first #additivemanufacturing technique in history: stereolithography, known today as SLA. This is exciting, but it's important to remember that Hull was not the first to work on such a technology. Pawel Slusarczyk looks at the unsung heroes who paved the way.

Direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) #additivemanufacturing has brought about "unprecedented" application complexity and design freedom to metal manufacturing. But due to support structures and possible rough surfaces from #3Dprinting, finishing techniques are still needed. EOS takes a deep dive into post-processing for DMLS technology.
