If you are passionate about environmental sustainability, the preservation of healthy wetlands, the protection of wildlife, or the conservation of endangered species, then you will be thrilled to learn about Kylies’ career journey! Meet Kylie Abouzeid, Environmental Analyst III our MassDOT Spotlight Employee this week! “I started with MassDOT in May 2022 as an Environmental Co-op in the Wetlands department. During my time as a co-op, I worked in both the Wetlands Unit and the Wildlife and Endangered Species Unit which are my two big passions. Learning about the different departments allowed me to determine what I was really drawn to and gain experience interpreting the complex regulations. I started full-time as an Environmental Analyst I in December 2022 and I have been promoted to Environmental Analyst III in April 2024. The scope of my job is ensuring that all projects that are in the design stages across Massachusetts receive the necessary permitting and clearances from regulatory agencies which protect Wetlands and Water Resources (including MassDEP, US Army Corps of Engineers, US Coast Guard, Coastal Zone Management). I have been lucky enough to work on the Cape Cod Bridges project and additionally I have enjoyed working on all projects that require US Coast Guard permitting because it is such a comprehensive process. Our team has been working on permitting twice as many projects this federal fiscal year as we did last year. One of my favorite things is when there are projects that are proposed in our hometowns, and it is so amazing how we get to watch them evolve. Environmental matters have a real-world impact right here and now and I am part of making those positive changes in our communities today. #Environmental #MassDOT #Wetland #Sustainability #Careerjourncy #Internship #Analyst

Today, EOPSS Deputy Secretary Susan Terrey was proud to join a dedicated team of federal, state, and local partners who have worked hard all year to ensure that the July 4th Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular at the Hatch Shell is a fun, safe, and family-friendly celebration for all. Events of this magnitude present unique challenges and require extensive planning. Massachusetts has a proud history of strong relationships among our federal, state, and local law enforcement partners. Our unified approach and combination of resources support our collective ability to prepare, prevent, and respond as needed. The EOPSS team is deeply grateful to our many partners, including the Massachusetts State Police, Massachusetts Department of Fire Services, Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs, Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, Massachusetts National Guard, MBTA, Boston Police and Fire, Cambridge Police and Fire, EMS, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra for their essential role in safety and security planning for one of the Commonwealth’s most beloved celebrations. We look forward to welcoming thousands of revelers to the Esplanade. Here are a few safety tips to ensure a safe and fun celebration: - See something, say something - Leave the fireworks to the professionals - Practice water safety, especially with young children Happy 4th, Massachusetts! 🎉
