If you are passionate about environmental sustainability, the preservation of healthy wetlands, the protection of wildlife, or the conservation of endangered species, then you will be thrilled to learn about Kylies’ career journey! Meet Kylie Abouzeid, Environmental Analyst III our MassDOT Spotlight Employee this week! “I started with MassDOT in May 2022 as an Environmental Co-op in the Wetlands department. During my time as a co-op, I worked in both the Wetlands Unit and the Wildlife and Endangered Species Unit which are my two big passions. Learning about the different departments allowed me to determine what I was really drawn to and gain experience interpreting the complex regulations. I started full-time as an Environmental Analyst I in December 2022 and I have been promoted to Environmental Analyst III in April 2024. The scope of my job is ensuring that all projects that are in the design stages across Massachusetts receive the necessary permitting and clearances from regulatory agencies which protect Wetlands and Water Resources (including MassDEP, US Army Corps of Engineers, US Coast Guard, Coastal Zone Management). I have been lucky enough to work on the Cape Cod Bridges project and additionally I have enjoyed working on all projects that require US Coast Guard permitting because it is such a comprehensive process. Our team has been working on permitting twice as many projects this federal fiscal year as we did last year. One of my favorite things is when there are projects that are proposed in our hometowns, and it is so amazing how we get to watch them evolve. Environmental matters have a real-world impact right here and now and I am part of making those positive changes in our communities today. #Environmental #MassDOT #Wetland #Sustainability #Careerjourncy #Internship #Analyst

Congratulations to MassDOT Deputy Administrator and Chief Engineer Carrie Lavallee for being selected for Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS Boston Chapter) “Woman of the Year,” and the Rail and Transit Division, which is led by Administrator Meredith Slesinger, for being selected for the “Innovative Transportation Solutions” award.   “It is such an honor to have Carrie and Meredith doing such great work and providing expert leadership,” said Transportation Secretary and CEO Monica Tibbits-Nutt. “I want to congratulate them and their teams for their respective, well-deserved recognitions by WTS-Boston, and I thank them for their ongoing service to deliver reliable connectivity to the people of Massachusetts.”    Ms. Lavallee was honored as “Woman of the Year” for 2024. In her current role as Deputy Administrator and Chief Engineer at the Highway Division, Ms. Lavallee has been responsible for MassDOT’s expanded $2.1 billion a year capital program from last year, which included new federal infrastructure funding and one of the largest investments in bridges in the Commonwealth’s history.   MassDOT’s Rail and Transit Division, which has coordinated the MassDOT Compass Rail Program/Inland Route: Right of Way Modeling Partnership with Amtrak and CSX, was honored with the “Innovative Transportation Solutions Award” for 2024. In September 2023, MassDOT was awarded a $108 million Federal Railroad Administration CRISI grant to fund trackwork that would enable two daily round trips on the Inland Route between Boston, Springfield, and New Haven, Connecticut. MassDOT’s first step towards advancing this important passenger rail initiative was establishing a partnership with Amtrak and CSX to develop a simulation model of the Boston & Albany rail corridor.   Congratulations to all! ℹ https://lnkd.in/eMAwkP98
