Illumination Foundation’s mission is to disrupt the cycle of homelessness.

About us

Our mission is to provide targeted, interdisciplinary services for the most vulnerable homeless clients to break or prevent the cycle of homelessness. Studies show that families with children are the fastest growing segment of the homeless population in America. This is especially true in Orange County, where one of the most expensive housing markets in the nation creates an immense gap between income and affordable housing. In 2007, the Illumination Foundation was founded to create a safety net for these homeless families by providing ongoing patient-centered housing, healthcare, workforce, and educational services. For the past ten years, we’ve committed ourselves to providing the best care possible for the homeless, focusing on services that will assist families into stable housing. By assessing families and individuals as they enter our care, we can identify their unique needs and provide immediate relief when necessary. We utilize public/private partnerships to ensure that our clients are connected to all community resources available to them.

Illumination Foundation is proud to receive $3.5 million in funding from CalOptima Health for our Children and Families Recuperative Care! The grant is tied to California's Housing and Homelessness Incentive Program, which aims to prevent and address housing insecurity for Medi-Cal members. The grant allows us to acquire, renovate, and expand a property in Santa Ana that will serve as the nation's first recuperative care for children and families experiencing homelessness. Our program will provide transitional housing to medically vulnerable homeless children and their families. It offers a safe haven for children to recover from illness or injury post-hospitalization while addressing the complex challenges faced by their families. By providing medical oversight, comprehensive case management, housing services, and trauma-informed supportive services on-site, Illumination Foundation will create a nurturing environment for families to heal and stabilize. Thank you CalOptima for your partnership in strengthening Orange County's response to addressing the special needs of children and families experiencing homelessness! On June 18, families from Plumeria House had a fantastic time painting birdhouses donated by the The Art Box Academy and enjoying a delicious dinner sponsored by Prospera Hotels, Inc. Our amazing volunteers were on hand to serve dinner, facilitate activities, and lead a heartwarming storytime session. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this a wonderful event for our families! Your support and participation are truly appreciated.

Today, we proudly commemorate #Juneteenth, a significant milestone in American history. On June 19, 1865, news of emancipation reached the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, marking a pivotal moment in the fight for freedom and equality. At Illumination Foundation, we honor this day by reflecting on our commitment to understanding and serving diverse communities. Juneteenth reminds us of the resilience and strength of the African American community and the ongoing journey toward justice and equality for all. We celebrate the rich cultural heritage and contributions of Black Americans and reaffirm our dedication to fostering a supportive and equitable environment for everyone we serve. Join us in recognizing this day and continuing our mission to build a brighter, more inclusive future.

Big Congratulations to our board member, Dr. Geeta Grover! Dr. Grover won the Gretchen Hunsberger Medical Champion Award at the 2024 Annual Reach Out and Read Leadership Conference in New York! The award honors a doctor or other medical provider who has been extraordinary as a trainer, clinician, and/or clinical director. Dr. Usha Ramachadran, Professor of Pediatrics at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School New Brunswick, NJ presented her the award and had this to say. "Dr. Grover has dedicated much of her career to creating opportunities to access care for some of our most underserved populations. She has found a way to use books and the joy of reading and storytelling to help build resilience in children who have experienced trauma. Dr. Grover’s commitment to language, books, and reading as an opportunity for resilience and success is contagious. Everyone who has the privilege of working with her wants to continue to do more.” Her dedication to improving pediatric primary care and her innovative use of books and reading to build resilience in children who have experienced trauma is inspiring. Congrats again Dr. Grover! We're happy to have you on our Board of Directors
