Serving Hawaiʻi's Families, Living Hawaiian Values
About us
Partners in Development Foundation (PIDF) empowers families to navigate social challenges and to grow self-resiliency, vibrancy, and healthy, secure communities in Hawaiʻi. E mālama i ka ‘ohana, ola ke kaiāulu, care for the family, and the community lives. From our beginnings in 1997, Partners in Development Foundation draws on ʻike kupuna, ancestral wisdom and knowledge, to meet the current challenges facing Hawaiʻi. We serve the needs of young keiki, their caregivers, and economically vulnerable youth and families in the Hawaiian community to overcome systematic disparities and historical trauma. Our programs are guided by time-tested values and practices that honor our kuleana for people and place in caring for our islands and communities. E ola ka ‘ohana, may the family thrive. Partners in Development Foundation believes that nurturing family success will ignite their ability to serve others.

Representatives from our Kīʻapu, Ke Kama Pono, and Kupa ʻAina programs traveled over 4,000 miles to Washington D.C. to attend the Coalition for Juvenile Justice annual conference. Our President/CEO Shawn Kana'iaupuni, PhD. sits on their Executive Board as a Western Regional Representative, and is the only member from Hawai'i. The program representatives attended meetings with congressional delegates and gained insightful ʻike (knowledge) to bring back to their programs. The conference addressed questions like, “How can systems collaborate with one another to more holistically address young people’s needs?” and “How can we restructure current policies and practices to ensure young people receive appropriate services and support?” Our programs at #PIDF are not only catered to young keiki at the infant and preschool level, but we also have these fantastic programs that are catered to service youth (14-24). Kīʻapu is our workforce development program offering the tools and support for youth to enter workforce and educational pathways. Ke Kama Pono is our safehouse program helping to reunite adjudicated male juvenile offenders with their families and prepare them for future success. Kupa ʻAina, as some of you may know, is our sustainable farm in East Oʻahu. Within the farm, they host programs like Hoʻokanaka Cultural Diversion Program and Hoʻokahua ʻĀina and Culture-Based Workforce Development Program. Sending out a big mahalo on this #AlohaFriday and #FlashbackFriday to our program representatives for attending this conference, and bringing bright ideas back to our lāhui. #youthjustice #youthjusticeinhawaii
