🚗💡 Exciting Experience with Autonomous Driving! 💡🚗 Recently, my son and I had the opportunity to take a ride in an autonomous vehicle, and it was nothing short of amazing! 🌟 Feeling perfectly safe throughout the journey, we were blown away by how the car made incredibly safe choices through the bustling streets of San Francisco, filled with pedestrians, scooters, bicyclists, and cars. It detected risks that even my eyes didn't catch (albeit I was in the back seat), reacting to them swiftly and appropriately. 🚦 What impressed me most was that this cutting-edge technology will soon be accessible to everyone at a cost comparable to that of an Uber or Lyft ride (I was on a list as part of a Waymo's pilot group for this ride). It's incredible to think that with the rise of AI developments, we're on the brink of a transportation revolution that promises both safety and convenience. 🌐 As someone deeply supportive of these AI advancements, I'm excited about the endless possibilities they hold for the future. 🚀 🌍 #AutonomousDriving #AI #Innovation #FutureTech #TransportationRevolution #Waymo

Models are getting smaller AND more powerful and accurate, while each new generation of Intel Xeon CPUs are running ever larger models faster. What can be done with server and client CPUs is ahead of the common conventional wisdom. When clients are doubtful I ask 'so you believe you can only run AI models including language models on hundreds GPUs or 1 iPhone, but not on servers with 100's of x86 cores?' I am writing this not to push the sale of a product. Every enterprise already has Intel Xeon servers, so no sale necessary. To economically deploy AI Everywhere from cloud to edge every enterprise will need to migrate to the smallest models which achieves their goals and SLA, and fine tune and run the small language models (SLM) on CPU-based devices, This also will allow them to use their existing IT infrastructure instead of having to deploy new DC management, storage and networking systems. Time to move AI from bespoke appliances to general purpose environments

Looks like Qualcomm's business is stabilizing and the company has managed to maintain its strong position in the premium handset market delivering 1% YoY growth across their businesses. QCT (Handsets + IoT) was up 1% YoT and QTL (Licensing) was up 2% YoY - Non-GAAP. The company's diversification strategy is being led by automotive which has experienced consistent growth QoQ versus competitors who have exhibited declining or lumpy at best. The company has increased its design-win pipeline to $45B from $30B back in September of last year. My impression is that Qualcomm is doing a good job securing sockets rather than providing simulation services and infrastructure. Akash Palkhiwala mentioned progress on the ADAS side of the automotive business which makes up 1/3 of their design-win pipeline. This is a welcome nod to the SDV trend and a signal that Qualcomm customers are looking to digitally rearchitect their vehicles. AI PC should start to provide Qualcomm's Internet of Things segment a new revenue curve as X Series (Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus) beginning next quarter. It will be interesting to see how this semi-new (Qualcomm has been in the Arm-based PC game for years) will play out. It should be an inflection moment for Qualcomm as it comes to market with what looks like a formidable AI PC processor family in H2 of this year. I'm glad that Qualcomm included Snapdragon X80 in their presentation materials. It is the unsung hero of #5G which has largely been a back-burner item for the better part of a year. 5G will matter most when we don't think it matters. Qualcomm is an essential U.S. champion and global leader in my view. We shouldn't forget. It does seem that Qualcomm's One Technology Roadmap (which includes AI) is fostering resiliency across its portfolio of businesses against tough geopolitical and competitive environments. I'm looking forward to see how the proliferation of Oryon across product lines will fortify Qualcomm's business and solution competitiveness especially for handsets. There is some very interesting edge infrastructure and data center potential as well. 😉 All eyes on Snapdragon X Series in H2 2024! It's bigger deal than AI PC.

A Demanding, Perfectionist with a Singular Clear Vision - that is absolutely what you want from a leader or coach if you value doing great things. Great things are hard and staying focused on that singular clear vision is critical, and a leader keeping you focused can feel like/is a demanding perfectionist. It's easy to paint "Demanding, Perfectionist" as a negative traits, but it's what you want pushing you and others if you want to do great things. My first experience of this was our rowing coach for the University of Washington. UW Rowing is a world class program with shelves full of National titles and Olympic medal teams and athletes. Our UW rowing freshman coach was Bob Ernst - his job was to be demanding and drive perfection into all aspects of what we did. He had (has) an amazing balance of driving you, challenging you and leading you... and rowing hurts.. a lot... his job was to train us to bury pain deeper and deeper and push through to go harder, faster. Each time we were sure we were heading to the Boat house after a long and tough practice, thinking we were done... and he would say "turn em around lets go back out!" .. I hated it... but loved what it did for me and us as a team... we went Undefeated.... He was my first demanding perfectionist leader... . I would have done anything for coach Bob and the lessons i learned are core to who i am ... the journey was tough, we needed his focused demanding perfectionism to drive us and success. Since those days, if you've worked with me you've been frustrated by my demanding approach to push you beyond the obvious approach and force the interesting and unique approach, as that is what it takes to break out of the noise. Yet we have had great cultures with amazing people and we all grew together personally ... as well as the 10 companies growing into success and exits! For all of you striving for greatness. Here's a great conversation between Stripe co-founder, Patrick Collison and co-founder and CEO of Nvidia, Jensen Huang. I especially thought Jensen Huang's explanation on what people misunderstand about happiness and building something great was insightful. In the media we really only see the hype and excitement of those who have achieved something great in life, whatever that may be, but we rarely see the hardships and struggles that are part of this journey. It was encouraging for me as there are definitely times when its tough and not easy, as Jensen Huang says here, "I don’t love every day of my job… And every day I’m not happy… But I love the company every single second. And so I think what people misunderstand is [they think] the best jobs are the ones that bring you happiness all the time. I don’t think that’s right. You have to suffer. You have to struggle. You have to endeavor. You have to do those hard things and work through it in order to really appreciate what you’ve done. Who are the founders, what makes them special and how big is the market, that’s it 👌 Beats any “business plan”, business model canvas, or any of the Strategyzer alternative documents IMHO

The #IoTTechExpo was another reason to showcase my terrible photography and framing skills. And to meet old friends working on safe and scalable environments for connected products. Key takeaways: AI and ML were notable buzzwords. How does that actually safely lay over an existing tech stack (and hardware stack) remains to be demonstrated. How do you test, from a systems perspective, if a connected ecosystem actually works as intended? (Without necessarily having to cycle your devices for countless hours)? Everybody has a platform. This feels counterintuitive to me. How do we change that? And how do innovators come up with architecting an ecosystem that doesn’t become a burden or roadblock to deploying new devices or features later down the road? #IoT #TradeshowLife

It's all about open source. Hugging Face is now the de facto place for AI developers to find the right models for their projects, and its model collection is growing by the day, nearing half a million models.
