How can you use feedback to create a product roadmap?
Following my usual path of wide-narrow-wide on feedback collection, I start with casting a wide net with a survey to get a lay of the land as it is now and identify key customers and internal targets to go more in-depth with. During the second phase you should have more in-depth conversations and sessions with key internal players and customers to dig out the core pieces of feedback. Then, summarize and use RICE to prioritize features and functions, and bring this back out to a wider core group of internal players and key customers to validate the road map, either through interviews, surveys, group sessions, or a combination.

How can you use feedback to create a product roadmap?
I always go for a wide-narrow-wide approach with feedback and sources. Starting out with questionnaires and surveys, go for a broad audience to get as much data as possible. From there, narrow down and find the key target audience members to go more in-depth with in the form of interviews, group sessions, and other activities that drive feedback through participation. For many products, there will also be support tickets and technical issues that leave paper trails to follow. These are excellent sources of data on real customer-use experience.

How can you use survey research software to improve data collection?
On top of being useful for gathering and sorting a large amount of data, I find survey software can also improve internal feedback and reviews by making it simpler and quicker for necessary people to give their feedback. As a product manager, I often need feedback from sales and service people for product requirements or business cases. By putting the feedback I need into a survey format, I can greatly improve the feedback rate by giving the team members a structured, quick way to share their feedback and input. Instead of open ended requests for feedback, I create a survey with specific questions and choices where it makes sense. This way, team members can quickly select an answer, or enter a detailed answer of their own.

How can you use customer feedback to identify roadblocks to your product launch?
To get the fullest picture and most effective customer feedback, you need to use multiple channels and methods. Each one has different benefits. To get a general lay of the land and where customers are currently at, attend trade shows and talk to as many attendees as you can. Keep conversation casual and see what they find most interesting at the event. If you have a booth, be more product & company related. To validate assumptions or get quantifiable data, go with surveys and questionnaires using tools like Microsoft Forms. To really identify gaps and areas of opportunities, do in-depth conversations with customers and potential customers. Have a set of questions prepared, but be open to going on tangents based on their responses.
