The Oasis at Death Valley is situated in a lush, spring-fed desert oasis, surrounded by the vast and arid desert of Death Valley National Park. The Oasis operates the historic AAA Four Diamond Inn and Ranch, restaurants, gift shops, and the world's lowest elevation golf course. Both hotels have swimming pools fed by naturally warm local springs and open year-round.

Job Summary:

The Director of Golf is responsible for the overall maintenance, management, and operation of the golf course. This includes supervising and training the maintenance staff, planning and executing agronomic practices, and ensuring the course is in top playing condition. Works closely and professionally with GM, Director of Operations, Director of Retail, Director of Food & Beverage, suppliers, and outside contractors. All of our director positions at The Oasis are hands on positions. The ideal candidate should be as comfortable sitting behind the wheel of a mower as they are behind a desk.

The Details:

Position Type: Year Round

Pay: $72,176 - $90,278

Schedule: Typical schedule is 40 hours, 5 days/per week (will include weekends, evenings, and holidays)

Responsibilities

  • Direct organization of golf supervisory staff for assigned tasks and priorities, including the golf course superintendent.
  • Ensure all golf activities and course conditions are maximized for guest satisfaction.
  • Partner with the Director of Retail and Director of Food & Beverage on any golf related activities and programming.
  • Develop, implement, and update the maintenance program for the golf operation.
  • Frequently inspect the golf course to ensure adequate detail, correct agronomic practices, and optimal playing conditions.
  • Oversee management of turfgrass, irrigation, pest control, landscaping, course maintenance, and any capital improvement projects related to the golf course.
  • Carry out effective communications with employees and property management.
  • Establish operating and capital budget requirements of all golf operations and present to management for approval.
  • Manage golf operations within the planned budget.
  • Coordinate with contractors, sub-contractors, and other departments regarding projects which interface with the golf department.
  • Ensure golf work is completed on time and within budget, meeting required quality standards.
  • Ensure Kronos timekeeping is monitored daily for the department.
  • Approve all personnel changes and annual reviews for department staff.
  • Review monthly financial reports and prepare budget variance comments.
  • Coordinate contractual agreements regarding golf course maintenance, repair, and service.
  • Ensure all golf equipment is maintained and operational.
  • Participate in the company's Director on Duty program.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Golf Course Superintendent at a high-end golf facility
  • Degree in Turfgrass Management, Horticulture, or a related field (2-year or 4-year program), or equivalent work experience
  • Proven ability to lead and manage golf course maintenance and landscaping crews
  • Experience in developing and managing budgets for golf course operations
  • Willingness and ability to collaborate as part of the overall resort management team
  • Strong attention to detail, passion for maintaining excellent course conditions, and a positive attitude
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and other computer applications
  • Ability to analyze issues, solve problems, handle multiple tasks under pressure
  • Work flexible hours including nights and weekends as needed
  • Provide professional and courteous demeanor when interacting with guests and staff

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a full-service hotel / golf course environment.

Physical Requirements include:

  • Must be able to lift or move objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand for eight hours at a time.
  • Must be able to work in extreme temperatures.
