We Are Healers (WAH) seeks a dynamic leader to serve as the Executive Director (ED). The ED is the chief executive, fundraiser, advocate, and program leader. The ED will lead the WAH team and all aspects of WAH, and report to the WAH Board. 


 

Core Executive Director Responsibilities 

Administration and Financial 

  • Manage and continue to build all day-to-day operations for the organization, ensuring that programs are administered efficiently and effectively with the WAH team 
  • Supervise, train, and direct WAH team 
  • Administer WAH’s multiple databases and platforms 
  • Develop, manage, and oversee the annual budget, working closely with the Board Treasurer and accountant to provide data for financial oversight and creation of the annual budget by the Board 
  • Provide leadership, guidance and active participation on all Board and staff convenings.


Organizational Development 

  • Build and enhance WAH’s mission, culture and values 
  • Manage development of the strategic plan, working with the Board and staff to set goals and develop the operating plan to achieve them, with a focus on continued support, growth, and expansion of programs and services 
  • Serve as the external face and voice of the organization, enhancing WAH’s visibility and programs 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders and partner organizations
  • Participate in relevant conferences and leadership events 
  • Develop and manage strategic relationships in an effort to place WAH at the center of Native health sciences education and career pathways 
  • In partnership with the Board President, recruit and build the WAH Board to advance WAH’s mission and vision 


Program Development and Communications 

  • Develop and implement a marketing and communication plan 
  • Collaborate with staff on the effectiveness of communications (website, newsletter) and social media efforts 
  • Continue to build out the WAH Alliance institution membership program
  • Increase the number of WAH digital video stories and related assets 
  • Fundraising 
  • In partnership with the WAH Board, foster fundraising and grant initiatives to meet annual financial goals set by the Board 
  • In partnership with the WAH Board, create and cultivate relationships with major donors to build a broad base of support 
  • Secure grants and develop creative entrepreneurial partnerships that will enhance program development 
  • Develop and maintain marketing campaigns for fundraising and 
  • donor-development initiatives

  • Comfort with public speaking and excellent written and oral communication skills for internal and external communications 
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with an ability to develop strong relationships across a diverse spectrum of stakeholders and an ability to connect with leaders in the private, public and non-profit sectors 


Experience and Education 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field is required with a minimum of five years’ experience in non-profit organizations. Master’s Degree or PhD is preferred
  • General understanding of health science education, health career pathways, and current events 
  • Extensive knowledge of Native American history, communities, culture and issues in health and education

Job Schedule and Location: WAH is a registered 501c3 non-profit in the state of Oregon. There is no physical office and all WAH team members work remotely. The ED can set their own schedule, but applicants should be aware that this position will require virtual and/or in-person attendance at board meetings, trainings, and or other events that can occur on evenings and weekends. There will be occasional travel.
