Just returned from several days in Kyiv, Ukraine in discussions with senior members of their Air Force, General Staff, and Ministry of Defense on how to optimally use airpower in accomplishing the defense of Ukraine and ejecting the Russian invaders. Achieving air superiority is vital to securing those objectives. That requires the conduct of an offensive counter-air campaign, and that requires the lifting of restrictions on the use of U.S. provided weapons. What impressed me the most was the dedication, commitment, and tenacity of the people of Ukraine in defending their nation.

This is awesome to hear, but unfortunately, many in the Washington bubble haven’t shed the Vietnam/McNamara syndrome where the whiz kids believed it was better to “manage” a war and place restrictions to avoid escalation; just like when they forbid our pilots to bomb and destroy North Vietnamese airfields for fear of killing Soviet advisors. Sadly it is even easier to restrict a nation today with instant intelligence and communication along with the dreaded PowerPoint to determine what happens next. What the new whiz kids still don’t get is that the enemy doesn’t play by the same rules and they still get a vote. If Ukraine had no restrictions then the invaders may reconsider their positions especially when their supply lines, marshaling yards, and air support are being systematically destroyed. Body counts don’t win wars, decisive action and overwhelming force does. They key is not “deescalation,” but escalation dominance.

Thanks General, I am very glad you continue to help shine a light on a very critical, strategic issue. In my opinion, America needs to change our thought process and remove the hand cuffs / restrictions and let the Ukraine people fight to restore and keep their country.

As others say, thank you for this important work. Ukraine's win is a necessity and is an indicator of things to come with China and others.

Hi Boss! Thanks for talking AirPower strategy with the Ukrainian defense forces. Its hard to win a fight with handcuffs on. It’s time to unleash AirPower to win this war.
