Computer engineering senior Colin Peck (left) found inspiration from the loss of his brother to help others. When Brian Peck (right), a UW–Madison junior studying biomedical engineering, tragically passed away in 2019 from cardiac arrest, he was planning to begin an internship at Medtronic, a healthcare technology company. Now, Colin is carrying forward his brother's legacy as an intern with the same company in the cardiac rhythm management operating unit. ECE & ME Assistant Professor Joseph Andrews and his team have developed a printed sensor to economically measure nitrates in soil. This technology would allow farmers to dispense a more precise amount of fertilizer which could reduce both material costs and the harmful effects of nitrates leaching into groundwater. Congratulations to UW–Madison's WiscWind team as its proposal for a 525-megawatt floating wind farm on Lake Michigan won the project development contest in the U.S. Department of Energy’s 2024 Collegiate Wind Competition. The competition asked teams of undergraduates to develop a wind energy project and design, build, and test a model wind turbine.
