Following the success Virgin Media’s initial rollout of smart support earlier this year, we’re introducing the second phase - which aims to optimise a customer’s connection within the first 14 days of installation. Phase two of smart support will focus specifically on new customers’ connections during the first two weeks of their service, monitoring broadband performance with the aim of optimising their connection through proactive troubleshooting. Virgin Media is the first major telecoms provider to proactively reach out to customers to improve their broadband experience, which has seen positive results to date with smart support resulting in a more reliable connection and less time offline for customers currently receiving the service. Today we announce Virgin Media O2’s financial results for Q1 2024. Positively, we improved mobile and consumer fixed service revenue growth, although the tough macroeconomic backdrop has impacted low-margin mobile handset revenue. Through our sustained investments we continue to evolve our fixed and mobile networks, growing our fibre footprint at pace via the nexfibre network and our Fibre Upgrade programme, while also launching next generation 5G Standalone in 14 UK cities. We remain on track to hit our full year 2024 guidance, and for the remainder of the year we will maintain focus on our strategy of targeted investment in future growth drivers. A good detail focused Q&A on Multicast ABR deployment in real services. The question though is how much consumption is going to still be linear as consumers move to on demand. Is it just Sport that will drive this?
With TV consumption and delivery moving online, UK telco BT last year decided to pioneer a hybrid form of distribution that combines multicast with unicast delivery, called Multicast-Assisted Unicast Delivery (MAUD), which was announced in December 2023 (see https://lnkd.in/eYMfwSrD). To meet new traffic trends and demands, MAUD is designed to improve viewer experiences and increase the efficiency in the way content is transported through complex routes. https://lnkd.in/e_JgzwhN

📢📱 Virgin Media O2 has announced plans to switch off 3G services by 2025, as part of its ongoing network transformation. This move will allow the company to focus on upgrading its 4G and 5G networks, providing faster, more reliable, and energy-efficient services for customers. The switch-off will be carried out in phases across the UK, with the full transition expected to be completed by the end of 2025. This follows the joint statement by the Government and industry in December 2021 that all UK mobile network operators will switch off 2G and 3G by 2033. 📉 The use of 3G has significantly decreased over the years, carrying less than 4% of all data used on Virgin Media O2’s network last year. 🌍 The switch-off will also contribute to the company’s sustainability goals, as 4G and 5G are significantly more energy-efficient compared to 3G. This move aligns with Virgin Media O2’s wider plans to reach net-zero by 2040. Unsure whether the VMO2 3G switch-off will affect your mobile usage? Call or message us today for more information. #VirginMediaO2 #3GSwitchoff #4G #5G #Telecommunications #Sustainability

Cable companies like Charter Communications & Comcast have been trying to get their subscribers to their MVNO Services 🛜 However, it looks like they can’t convince all of their internet customers to include wireless in their plans ❌ According to a survey by analysts at TD Cowen people are not switching as they are happy with their current wireless provider ✅ Personally, I would only change over if there was something wrong with my provider/ they were considerably more expensive 🤔 Which begs the question, what can the cable companies actually do to get people to make the switch? #networking #networks #wireless #wirelessnetworks #ipnetwork
