The imperative for a national plan on aging is now more evident than ever. Through the input of older adults, organizations with expertise in aging issues, and other stakeholders from all sectors, a national plan has the potential to achieve sweeping solutions, enabling all people, as they age, to maintain good health, build financial resilience, and remain in their homes and communities. Read the new report from AARP’s Public Policy Institute, Aging Well in America: AARP’s Vision for the National Plan on Aging, which launches a new AARP initiative designed to support national efforts now underway to advance a national plan. The paper outlines clear goals along with actionable policy opportunities and highlights the value of best practices and lessons learned from AARP’s Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities (NAFSC) and other states that have implemented, developed, or initiated their own multisector plans for aging. #Agewell #NationalPlanonAging Read it here: https://lnkd.in/eGxbkRN8

The Affordable Care Act, now 14 years old, is enabling older adults ages 50 to 64 across racial and ethnic groups to make significant gains in accessing health insurance coverage. In a new AARP Policy Now video, the Public Policy Institute’s Jane Sung explains how the uninsured rate among older adults has been cut nearly in half, and discusses the role of enhanced tax credits in expanding access to coverage. #ACA #HealthCare #HealthInsurance #OlderAdults https://lnkd.in/eXtJ9iTT

Human rights should last a lifetime. We are pleased to support Amnesty International ‘s recently launched Age Loud campaign which aims to “amplify the voices of #olderpeople, rewrite the narrative around #ageing, and inspire people of all ages to demand an end to age-related #discrimination, #neglect and #abuse.
Today we launch Age Loud! - our new campaign to protect human rights in older age. No matter our age, our human rights are universal. But as we grow older, many of us are pushed into the shadows, ignored and forgotten. It’s time to listen to the voices of older people. Let’s speak up and support their calls to end age discrimination now. Collaborating with Amnesty International national offices and a diverse range of activists, allies and organisations around the world, our campaign will aim to amplify the voices of older people, rewrite the narrative around ageing, and inspire people of all ages to demand an end to age-related discrimination, neglect and abuse. Health disparities are a systemic challenge — which means we can't reduce them if we don't work together. That's why AARP supported the Leaders in Equity and Diversity (LEAD) Collaborative, which brought together more than 30 members, who directly serve over 680,000 people — 90% of whom are over 50. To improve #HealthEquity, each LEAD member has committed to tackling at least one disparity in their organization or community. See what they have learned thus far as the #LEADCollaborative shares what works with a range of different care providers. Everyone should have the chance to choose how they want to live and age. A new analysis of the data underlying the AARP Nursing Home COVID Dashboard finds that COVID vaccines are still saving lives in nursing homes. In fact, even a moderate improvement in facility-level vaccination rates, for staff as well as residents, can significantly reduce the impact of COVID-19. Data from last winter’s COVID surge shows that facilities with resident vaccination rates of at least 75% and staff vaccination rates of at least 50% had fewer COVID-19 cases and many fewer resident deaths. As of May 2024, only 30% of residents and 10% of staff in U.S. nursing homes were up to date on COVID-19 vaccination, but there are still many facilities with both immunization rates above 90%. #COVID #Vaccines #LTSS https://lnkd.in/eP4jAVtv
