About 11 million Americans rely on Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) to put food on the table or gifts under the tree this Christmas. If this is your case, continue reading this article to find out who is eligible to receive the next SSDI check.

SSDI checks arrive on the second, third, and fourth Wednesday of each month. The third Wednesday of December falls a few days before Christmas, in this case, the 20th of the month.

If your date of birth is between the 11th and the 20th of each month, then you can expect your check on December 20. Beneficiaries with birthdays between the 1st and 10th of the month received their payment on December 13, and those born between the 21st and 31st will receive it on the 27th.

The exception to this rule is people who started receiving their SSDI before May 1, 1997. If this is your case, your check should arrive on the 3rd of each month.

Likewise, if you receiveSSDI and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits, your check for the former will arrive on the 3rd and for the latter, every 1st.

What are the eligibility criteria for SSDI?

To access the SSDI benefit, you must have sufficient work credits. The amount you require depends on your age and the time of the disability onset.

It will also depend on your disability status, which depends on the rules established by the SSA. To receive the benefit, you must be unable to engage in a significant work activity.

Finally, once your case has been approved, there is a five-month waiting period to begin receiving the benefit.
