A Few Things to Know

  1. At the age of 18, Yunchan Lim became the youngest person ever to win the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. His final performance there was listed as one of The New York Times Top 10 Classical Music Performances of the year in 2022.
  2. Swedish composer Andrea Tarrodi first started playing piano at age 8. Now a Grammy Award-winning composer, her Liguria is a musical tour of the many colorful fishing villages scattered along the Northwestern coast of Italy.
  3. In the third movement of Pines of Rome, Respighi incorporated a recording of bird songs. It is one of the first uses of recorded audio in all orchestral literature. The image Respighi sought to create in this movement is one of pine trees atop a hill, illuminated by a full moon while a nightingale sings his song.
