Colnbrook C of E Primary scored 'Good' by Ofsted

Colnbrook Church of England Primary School in Colnbrook High Street has received another ‘Good’ Ofsted rating.

The school’s rating retains its status as ‘Good’ from its previous inspection.

The latest one took place over two days in March and involved seeking views from leaders, teachers, pupils, parents and governors.

The report from the latest inspection observed that ‘The school’s curriculum thinking is strong.’

“Learning activities challenge pupils when they apply new learning,” it reads.

Staff use individual support plans to know how to adapt these activities effectively for pupils with SEND (special educational needs and/or disabilities).

There is high participation in clubs because pupils ‘enjoy developing new skills,’ inspectors added. Pupils, including pupils with SEND, embrace extracurricular opportunities.

Ofsted’s only criticism was that in some foundation subjects, ‘pupils do not recall or accurately understand previous learning.’

“They struggle to explain important knowledge and concepts they have previously been taught,” the report said.

But pupils’ character development ‘is a high priority,’ the inspectors observed.

“Through the school’s wider curriculum, pupils learn about the value of diversity. They explore differences in beliefs and lifestyles.”

Moreover, pupils ‘behave responsibly around the school.’

“In early years, staff attentively teach the children routines and language that support strong learning behaviour,” says the report.

Tom Brunson, headteacher, said in a letter to parents:

“Whilst an Ofsted outcome is not the only measure of success we rely on, it is extremely pleasing that the inspection report highlights some of the many strengths of our school.

“I am extremely proud of what we have achieved at Colnbrook since I became headteacher [in September 2020] and I look forward to building on this, as we continue to strive for excellence for all.”

Colnbrook C of E Primary School is part of Slough and East Berkshire Multi Academy Trust (SEBMAT).
