This week, Nicolas Cage dons his medieval knight gear and Russell Crowe tries to help his on-screen wife out of prison

The Next Three Days Starring Russell Crowe as a teacher who tries to break his wife (Elizabeth Banks) out of prison, this thriller is a remake of a 2008 French film, Anything for Her, that runs for 96 minutes. About half of the new movie’s extra minutes accommodate useful additions. The rest are made up purely of shots of Crowe looking moody — for the film was scripted and directed by Paul Haggis, maker of Crash, and this ponderous stuff is his idea of drama. There are a few well-crafted bits of tense action, but their chances of jangling your nerves are steadily diminished by the overall drift into dullness. EP
