Andy Caddick calls on selectors to back old guard

Andy Caddick, the former England fast bowler, has called on selectors to include more experienced players in the Test side. Caddick was speaking before tomorrow’s announcement of the touring party for the three Test series against Sri Lanka in December, with speculation rife that 38-year-old Mark Ramprakash is set for a dramatic recall.

Ramprakash, who scored more than 2,000 first-class runs for a second successive season for Surrey, has not played for England since April 2002, but has been touted to replace struggling opener Andrew Strauss. Caddick, 38, who took 70 County Championship wickets for Somerset, is yet to rule out a return to the international arena despite his last Test appearance being back in January 2003.
