Unusual weather always gets our attention, and this year has been more unusual than most.
An April heat wave and the summer floods contributed to a year of climatic extremes – and kept photographers busy – but less extreme weather can also lead to striking images. October may be too late for sunbathers, but plenty of people will be out in parks and on beaches making the most of the last warmth of the year. And if the weather turns, then frosty mornings, or people wrapped up against the wind and rain, make equally compelling images.
